The property has been in the Monge family since the late 1940's bought by Jose Monge Marquez. The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsite areas and facilities are about 8 out of 43 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, and various fruit trees.
The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits.
The local attractions are:
-El Yunque National Rainforest 15 minute drive up the mountain.
-Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive & 8 minutes walking).

You will have access to the entire property. The grandpa's house and grocery store (where the traditional bathroom with shower, refrigerator, and microwave are located).
This is a rural and country property, surrounded by nature and creeks, with direct access to Cidra Lake. Drive carefully, but all vehicles can get access without problems. Vehicles like a Toyota Camry, an SUV, or a 4x4.
Other things to note
Use only Google Maps to drive to the property; you can get lost if you use other apps like Apple Maps. Remember this is a rural area with just a few traffic lights; we highly recommend arriving early the 1st time to get familiarized with the area.Wi-Fi: There is no Wi-Fi signal in Grandpa's house, but if you need to use it, you can access the Wi-Fi service close to the main house.You will be in the middle of 5 acres of land, in total contact with nature and in an emblematic property from the 50's. In simple words: there are no screens on the windows, and you sleep with a mosquito net. Insects are a vital part of the flora and fauna, and you can see a wide variety of them in the surroundings, from lizards to fireflies. In the same way, and despite the fact that we have an exterminator visit every 2 weeks, sometimes they can be inside the grandfather's house. A real, genuine, and magical experience.For those not familiar with the local driving conditions, it's advisable to approach the journey with a sense of adventure and patience. The roads, while providing an authentic experience of the country's topography, may require a bit of adaptability from drivers more accustomed to city driving.Compact vehicles are more than capable of reaching our hidden oasis. The key is to drive safely, taking your time to navigate any twists, bumpy roads, and turns with care. 🗺 Your rock shelter name is Refugio Caney. You will have a video in your self check in instructions to make it easier for you to get there on your own. You need to bring good grip shoes for the trail and your hands should be totally free. Bathroom and parking spot are located at the entrance of our property, at about 3-4 minutes hiking from the rock shelter.

Over 500 squared meters of half fenced land will provide you a space to explore barefoot with your companion pets.
This open space also provides you with the essentials for a special evening: wine glasses, bottle openers, and coal.
Inhale fresh air far from the city and the noises. Lie down under the sky and watch the stars and fireflies during a clear night.
The camping site has a private entrance with a self check-in gate. Parking spot is located outside the property so you must be willing to walk downhill to access the area. We only use solar or batteries lights.

Guest can explore around the premises at his/her own risk. Pets should remain on leash. Please, do not cross to the neighbors yards uninvited. Hiking jewels can be found at 20 minutes drive: Las Tetas between Cayey-Salinas, Canon San Cristobal between Aibonito-Barranquitas, and Bosque Carite, Cayey.

Property is not fully fenced.
Nights can be really colds so bring your jackets.
The place uses solar lights, doesn't have electricity, so be prepared to connect with nature.
Must bring your own tent, blankets and towels.
Guest should bring his own food. Coal available no extra cost.

There is a private greenhouse in the property where you can buy exotic plants.

This is not a hotel or boutique hotel — it’s my personal home and guesthouse, created with care to offer budget-friendly, outdoor living accommodation in a real Puerto Rican neighborhood. There are three units on the property:
• The Casita, located in the back and completely private sleeps 3
• The Loft and Escape Pod, which share an outdoor kitchen and patio Escape pod sleeps 2 The loft has a queen and full size pullout
I live on-site for about six months of the year and work in the States the other half to keep this Puerto Rico dream alive. I’ve built this space slowly, with creativity and love — and I’m happy to share it with those who appreciate its energy.
🌿 A Few Quick Notes
We provide a clean, comfortable, and affordable stay — but don’t offer upscale hotel amenities like single-use plastic shampoos or conditioners. Instead, we provide an all-natural Castile soap in hand pumps that can be used for the whole body.
Also, roosters are part of daily life in Puerto Rican neighborhoods. You may hear them at unexpected hours — it’s part of the local soundscape. There are no roosters next door, but a neighbor up the hill has a few.

Weekend Trip to The Singing Rooster Farm And Campground

Weekend Trip to Barefoot Travelers Rooms Guesthouse
We loved our stay with Keishya and Bob! They share their beautiful house in a beautiful location with a personal welcome, then privacy and freedom. Within walking distance is a nature reserve, and several restaurants as well as a beach. My partner and I also took some time to relax by their pool and love on their dog! We would both love to come back some day.

7 nights at Barefoot Travelers Rooms Guesthouse
Keishya's guest house is so lovely! We stayed there for a week and it was clean, very comfortable and so relaxing. Keishya is very communicative and mindful of your needs during the stay. She provides towels, soap, and other basic needs. The town where the guest house is, Humacao, is mostly a local spot with many seafood and other types of restaurants very close. A couple places are within walking distance even. The guesthouse is located in a gated community so the beach is private and very nice. Palm trees offer spots of shade during the day. We brought our travel hammock which I would highly recommend. While we were there, there was a wind advisory so the beach was fairly choppy for our baby but still very swimmable for us! There are three rooms that are shared by a common kitchen. The bigger room offers a private bathroom and the two other rooms share a bathroom. We stayed in the bigger room with our 17 month old. There was enough space to put a pack n' play crib in the big room but not the smaller two rooms unless you moved the beds and furniture around perhaps. The kitchen is great and has all the basics you need. The nature preserve is walkable from the property and provides a lovely place for bird watching and nature strolling. There is a great overlook spot and a pretty lagoon. We loved it here and would highly recommend!

Great spot 15 minute drive away from el yunque hiking trails. we had camp site La Piedra which was right by the river stream. Electricty, hot water, and charging box were not expected but very much appreciated. Prepare for heavy rain during the nights.

Beautiful campsites overlooking the river. All very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was equipped and the showers spacious. The host was super welcoming and attentive. Overall great experience. This was my second time camping there, won't be the last!
