Elmlock was named by MJ's Grandfather for the majestic Elm trees that once graced the property and banks of the Tulpehocken Stream passing through the Union Canal lock. These beautiful trees were devastated by the Dutch Elm Disease in the early 20th century. Elmlock and the surrounding area was surveyed by non other than George Washington as plans were formulating to build a canal system to join the Schuylkill and Susquehanna Rivers. The General stayed with his friend Captain Michael Lei on the adjacent farm, once known as the Tulpehocken Manor when visiting the area. The ruins of one of the canal locks remains on the Elmlock property adjacent to the camping area. The 1838 stone farmhouse was built by the Spengler family and acquired by MJ's Grandfather in 1913. MJ's pottery studio is a local "Town Barn" that was relocated piece by piece to Elmlock by MJ"s brother, a Historic Restoration Specialist, in 1974. He also restored the Bake Oven on the property's Summer Kitchen. Our property features an historic canal lock from 1828 Union Canal and a stream that runs through it. There is a RR track that runs just south of our camp about 10acres away For campers who love to watch or hear trains you'll have plenty of opportunity to do so!  You can enjoy fishing and playing in the water, which is fresh, clean limestone water from a nearby quarry. We also have two small goats on the property. Farm land surrounds the property, wooded area and cattle nearby. This is a secluded property but less than a mile from Rt 422. You can bike along the many back roads nearby!  We also offer pottery classes, drawing classes, painting classes, and also Medicinal wild plants walk etc. for an additional fee.  See our extras below if you are interested! Historic places to visit and only 20 miles from HersheyPark. Also we are only 15-20 min from the Historic Appalachian Trail! We had such a great time here! There was 7 adults, 1 baby, and 4 dogs and we had plenty of space!! Gorgeous in the fall, and they had plenty of firewood for us to use. I recommend this place and we hope to come back! You do hear the raceway noise but it’s not a big deal and it’s nice and quiet overnight!

Everything was clean and well maintained. Loved the wooden platforms, string of lights, fire pit. Unexpected bonus was some firewood and two hammocks already set up. Gorgeous view of the river and so convenient to the bike trail. Check in was a breeze. Note: As an active freight rail line goes alongside the bike trail and river, do expect train whistles and noise several times a night.

This was our second time at Camp Douglass. My best friend and I loved it so much the first trip, we couldn’t wait to bring the kids! Shane works hard on this property, and it shows. There were upgrades even since May when we were there. We booked a weekend already for next summer. We will come prepared with floats for the river. This trip the kids and dogs were able to walk over to the island and down the river. We had coffee with a beautiful view every morning. My friend and I agree, we’ve found one of our happy places!

We loved every minute of camping at Camp Douglass! The view out over the river is amazing and the water near the shore is shallow and perfect for kids to play in. The campsite itself is flat and clean with a perfect spot for a hammock and there is a shed full of firewood nearby. Although the train didn’t bother us during the day it continued over night and was not overly loud but might not be great for light sleepers. The gravel road to get to the campsite was manageable for our Honda pilot and would be an easy walk if using the parking area. Over all it was great and we will definitely be back.

Site was well maintained and clean. Check in insteuctions were clear. Nice spot right along the river, plenty of space and felt secluded. You can tell the property owner has spent time making the site nice. Included firewood was a huge bonus. Train runs through regularly fairly close but didnt bother us. Would return again.

This campsite overlooks a field of apple-loving cows who will come to greet you if you throw some of the fallen apples over the fence. Also apple lovers, the goats (Peter and Piper) are the sweetest kids. If not for my dog’s recent neutering, he would have had a blast with them and the two wonderful dogs on the property. We got a tour of the pottery studio, and MJ’s pottery is incredible! I regret not taking one of her classes.

Great time camping! The check in was smooth and the host was accessible to help locate the camp (it IS secluded so best to use the guidebook for reference photos). The train was a bit distracting at times, but we anticipated it from the initial description (no worries it tends to stop at night). Wood is available to build a fire and the porta potty was close. Lots of space and picnic tables to spread out if you’re in a group too. I do wish there was an easier access to the river directly from the campsite, but overall the stay was fun!

This was such a unique, picturesque experience. From feeding apples to cows to setting up a telescope for the stars, my partner and I felt so relaxed and fulfilled from our Elmlock Acres experience. The hosts were so gracious and informative, telling us pretty cool lore of this space (no spoilers). The fire spot and sleeping next to the canal was the perfect vibe for what we wanted, with a hammock to top it off. You can tell how much pride they take in the Elmlock Acres experience. Even though we were on the same property as the owners, they did not care about our barking dog and were so up front that noise doesn’t bother them. We also didn’t feel bothered by them. Pretty unique experience would definitely recommend.

This was definitely one of our top favorite Hipcamps, and we only wish we’d had more time here! We really appreciated the helpful site information provided after booking, as well as the clearly marked location and detailed instructions when we arrived—it made everything so easy. The seasoned, dry firewood was such an over-the-top amenity for road-trip camping—what a thoughtful touch! The campsite itself was beautiful with a lovely view and super easy river access. Everything was spotless—truly one of the cleanest and best-maintained sites we’ve stayed at. We will absolutely be back and are already recommending it to friends. Here are a few ground rules to help with your stay -PLEASE READ SO NONE OF THIS IS A SURPRISE-: -Dogs are permitted if they are friendly and are trained well enough to listen and stay at your site. Again, they must stay at your site unless walking with you on a leash. If your dog inflicts damage to the sites (digging holes, chewing up piles of sticks, chewing up toys to bits etc. please clean up after your dogs. We will provide shovels, rakes if you need!) - OVERLANDERS: You can bring your overland camper if you want, but you must park your vehicle in the parking spot across from your site at sites 1-3. It is a safety issue to block the entryway/exit lane. Site 4 is large enough to accommodate your vehicle and these rules do not apply there. -This is a place for relaxation and reflection by the creek. No loud groups, or partying allowed. If your neighbor can hear your music it is too loud. If your host can hear it, you will be asked to turn it down or off all together. -This is a pack it in, pack it out site. This includes food waste, dog waste, and any garbage produced. Please respect that :) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BURN ANY WASTE IN THE FIRE RING BEFORE CHECKING OUT. -There is NO FISHING, kayaking or boating. Go for a swim and float, no prob! But please float in the vicinity of your camp, so as not to disturb other campers. - Please do not invite visitors to your campsite. This is an insurance issue, no exceptions. If you want friends and family to experience our beautiful spot, please have them sign up and book a site, wouldn't that be more fun anyway!? People coming to our land who are not booked at a site will immediately be shown off the property. -Due to virtually every booking asking for earlier arrival and later departure times, we are strictly adhering to the posted check in and check out times. You can enjoy the following on our sites: - Free, unlimited wood for your campfires. Each site comes with a fire ring. - Seating arrangements (picnic table, wrought iron loungers and chairs and wood benches). - Charming outhouse situated over a septic certified holding tank with toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

It is not in the middle of nowhere....it's in the middle of everywhere! Learn more about this land: Camp next to a peaceful trickling creek just outside Phoenixville and Kimberton. We are a suburban oasis, surrounded by a little bit of everything.  Our homestead has plenty of activity including kids, dogs, and chickens, bees and goats! We have a fully wooded area available to explore across the creek, and weather dependent- the creek is a great place to stay cool. You'll see lots of growing fruit trees in our developing orchard and we are happy to share our vision for this beautiful land! We have two campsites available for you to choose between for your stay. Both sites are along the creek, however, one has a view of some nearby houses and is a short walk to the parking spot [Creekside]. The other site is more secluded, past the tree line, but a further walk from where you are able to park. [Hillside] If needed, we are happy to lend you a wagon to haul your gear. Please let us know if you have questions and your preference of site. We have a cabin-like bathroom and partial kitchen you will have access to during your stay. We always have cold water available for purchase in the fridge. There is trail access easily accessible from our home (the closest is approximately 1 mile), for paved or natural trail exploration. We are are a great stopping point for cyclists enjoying the area. It's a short drive to downtown Phoenixville with some of the best breweries around. Phoenixville is home to a great farmers market on Saturday mornings and numerous festivals. Also, close-by is the lovely quaint village of Kimberton, home of the best organic grocery store and many opportunities for hiking and small farms.

Spring: Kayaking, fishing and hiking. Summer: hiking, fishing in the pond, cooling off in the swim hole.
