The campsite overlooks over 600 acres of peaceful grassy knolls which takes the viewer back in time. See below for a bit of local history and things to see while in the area. Our campsites are BYOS sites: We do not provide outhouses or tent potties at our sites, so you must bring your own. We do, however, provide a full restroom with shower/bath at the main house during reasonable hours and have a septic for you to dispose of your waste (during open hours) so you don't have to travel with it. Welcome and we hope you enjoy yourselves and get a glimpse of a little bit of what our tierheim visitors enjoy when they come here.
Local History
About 65 miles southwest of Oklahoma City, near the junction of Highways 81 and 17, was a sign that said: "Welcome to Rush Springs, home of 1500 happy faces and a few old soreheads."
Now the sign says: "Welcome to Rush Springs." Also, there is a giant
watermelon slice indicating that Rush Springs is also the Watermelon Capital.
Rush Springs gets its name from the large springs near the head of Rush Creek from which the town gets its water supply. It is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) settlements in Grady County, Oklahoma.
The history of Rush Springs may be divided into six periods.
The first period leads up to 1858. The springs served as a camping site for Indian tribes from very early days. The Wichita Indians settled on Rush
Creek about four miles southeast of the present town around 1850. It was at this place that the famous "Battle of the Wichita Village" was fought between the Comanches and the United States Calvary on October 1, 1858. After this battle, the Wichitas fled to Fort Arbuckle.
The second period deals with the Chisholm cattle trail (1865-1892). Thousands of heads of cattle were driven northward across the territory over this trail from Texas to Kansas. This trail passed about one and a half miles east of the town, and the springs served as a watering place for the cattle. This trail ceased to be
used after the railroad was built across the territory in 1892. Parts of this trail can still be seen today.
The third period covers the years 1871-1878. Fort Sill had just been established. Supplies had to be shipped to Fort Sill from points in the eastern part of Indian Territory. After the building of the railroad across the eastern part of the territory, Caddo became the main shipping point. Rush Springs was between Caddo and Fort Sill. A stage stand was built and a little town sprang up. When the government freight station was moved from Caddo to Texas, the little town nearly died.
The years 1878-1892 make up the fourth period. The "Huntley Ranch" was established on Rush Creek near the site of the old Wichita Village. The ranch became a stage stand and a freight station for local settlers. A post office, known as "Parr," was established at this place in 1883. In 1892, this post office was moved to Rush Springs.
The fifth period begins in the year 1892, when the Rock Island Railroad came through the springs. It became a government freight station to Fort Sill for nine years, resulting in rapid growth of the town.
The sixth period dates from 1901 when the Rock Island Railroad lines were extended to Fort Sill and Lawton, thus ceasing the freight trade at Rush Springs. The town has since depended on ranching, farming and oil interest for its existence.

Bringing a pet? They are very welcome here, however, we now require a $30 pet fee due to additional cleaning and potential damages. Please add this on to your booking.
By June 1, 2025, we'll be adding two spacious yurts, each accommodating 6-8 sleeping bags or cots - perfect for families, kids, or groups looking for a unique outdoor stay.

It was so fun to camp here!!! On one of the nights or for lunch you HAVE to eat at their restaurant! It’s delicious and everyone is so friendly. The views are amazing and you can even go hike up their land for some more great views. The bathrooms are super clean and they even provide a few toiletries if you forget yours. You also need to get breakfast from their restaurant!! The coffee and drinks are amazing too. They have games and lots of areas to hang out. I completely recommend this campsite! We didn’t get to stay in the glamping tents but they looked amazing! We even got to see a small female Oklahoma brown tarantula!!

Loved hippie hill! We got to choose our tent site when we got there and got a nice spot at the top of the hill! Beautiful views and lovely people down at the cafe! Only advice is to be prepared to trek up a bit of a hill with all your gear to your tent spot!

It's a gorgeous location and the Shiloh tent was cute, cozy, and roomy. I really appreciated that we didn't have to haul pillows and blankets because the site comes with a real bed fully dressed. It was also handy that it's so close to Medicine Park. Our hosts were friendly and informative. It's nice that they're right there at the restaurant in case we had any questions. Campfires have always been the centerpiece to our camping trips and I was kinda bummed that there weren't individual fire pits for each location like we're accustomed to, but I'd never been to that area of Oklahoma and now I can see why. There was a fire ban during our trip but we saw that the communal fire pit was very close by and it looked comfortable and welcoming. Even though it's right off the highway, it didn't bother us a bit and there's plenty of wilderness all around to enjoy. The views are stunning.

Kelli and Darrel’s place is a cool spot not too far off the highway and close to some really cool things to check out. It’s important to note, first, that they are super kind people who have a ton of heart and knowledge of the nearby town and natural areas. While having a killer breakfast at the cafe, they filled me in on some great hikes not far from camp with a passion that can only come from someone who really loves the place.
Though their tent sites are hike-in (very short up the hill) I was in a rooftop tent and they were able to figure a good parking spot out that was secluded enough from the road while still very close to the bathrooms and cafe.
I’ll definitely be back through.

Great experience! Kelli is an amazing host! Great atmosphere! I definitely suggest sitting in the tabernacle watching the stars. When I stayed they had live music, pyo, sound bath and an ice bath.

I came in after dark, found the directions were perfectly suitable, and was met outside by Mark to ahow where the spot was. The quick VW tour and chat was great too, wish I cpuld ha e spent more time talkin cars with him, but I was knackered after a 12hr roadtrip. Fell asleep to coyotes yip'n & yaw'n easily within 100yds. Great spot!

Honest review. Darrel was amazing. Wears a lot of hats and makes sure we are taken care of. He suggested to use the restaurant bathroom from 30 min before open to 30 minutes after close. During the night there are camping toilets in private rooms behind the restaurant. Not my favorite but they have long open hours so it really is for just in the middle of the night use. We decided not to cook but there were grills available outside. Had a few common seating areas for watching sunsets and sunrises. Common campfire that Darrel started and provided wood for, himself. We ate all our meals at the cafe. They are very considerate of food allergies preferences no sugar or lots of sugar if needed. Full bar, the chocolate drop martini was delish. Coffee was awesome. Had almond and oatmilk low sugar. Healthy choices from quinoa, black bean burgers house cut fries, latino favorites like hueve rancheros, teas, yerba mate, beer. Turmeric lattes. Very fresh tasting and yummy. They had real egg or imitation eggs or “cheggs” also had real chicken or crushed chickpeas in the quesadillas. Lots of choices. Servers were prompt and kind. The room was cute in decor, bed was comfortable and I have lower sacrum problems and it didn’t hurt to sleep on it. I was hoping there would be a tent heater but there was not one so we used the blankets that were very comfy on the bed and an extra sleeping bag and was very cozy. The tents did have condensation. An authentic opportunity for a stand out adventure can be discovered in Southestern Oklahoma at The Healthy Hippie Cafe within the charming town of Medicine Park! Well said that it is a full sensory experience set in the parameters of the wildlife refuge where both primitive and canvas tent dwellers can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding hills and view of Mt. Scott upon sunrise. A lovely trail ascends to a panoramic perspective of the historical towns settings. We heard coyotes calling out after sundown, the lovely fall breezes passing through the tent windows, the brilliance of the stars, and even a hooting owl passing by!
We traveled here to celebrate our youngest son's 6th birthday. He enjoyed every minute of it! The hosts, Darrell and Kelli are super personable and make themselves readily available. This little piece of property is set off the main road adjacent to The Healthy Hippie Cafe. However, with the exception to the minimal passing vehicles in the earlier evening and some talented musicians that could be heard in the distance, all was brought solely to the sounds of nature alone soon after. We slept in the Shiloh tent. It was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Bathrooms are available and an outdoor shower if that suits you.
We started our morning with a short hike on the property and breakfast in the Cafe. Super! The bar provides many fantastic options. GREAT coffee! REAL food! Ambiance is legit. This place is crushworthy. Thank you, Darrell & Kelli!

Camping on Mark and Angela’s land was simple. They met us when we arrived, gave us a great tour of the VW Krankenhaus (which as former owners of several different VWs, we enjoyed!), showed us where to find the facilities, and left us to set up camp. They were friendly and their place was as described.
