Great hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, swimming, and disc-golfing opportunities just a few miles away at Paint Creek State Park and the Highland Nature Sanctuary. Amish country is also just 15 minutes away with a great bakery, markets and greenhouses. This area is home to an impressive network of ancient earthworks including the world famous Serpent Mound. Our accommodations range from primitive tent-camping to "glamping" in one of our tiny off-grid cabins. The sites are spaced out for privacy and each site offers a private picnic table and fire pit. There are two shared privies/outhouses which have basic composting toilets (not flushing). A grassy parking area is provided near the road, however, ALL SITES ARE WALK-IN (with the exception of site #1). ***Please take note that this is private property and the host lives on site. The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Our beautiful 1800’s cabin was moved to the property in the 1970’s by a former neighbor who owned the property at the time. The same neighbor also had a historic train depot moved to the property where she sold antiques out of for several years. It is not sure what the cabin was used for at that time but it certainly added charm to the antique store property. When we acquired the property years later, the cabin was in need of work. It sat for a few years until we decided to restore this lovely cabin back to it’s beautiful charm and character. Jim spent a couple years on the project working in his free time and added the porch using old wood in keeping with the natural look and feel of the cabin as well as some interior areas. Upon completion, we opened the cabin as a gift shop selling unique items including antiques, primitives and decor for a few years. We decided to transition the cabin into a place of retreat for traveling guests and still keep some of the goods we sold in the shop available for purchase. We hope that you find the cabin and property a place of peace and tranquility and will want to return. Whether passing through for a night or a few days stay, you’re always welcome in our neck of the woods. The whole Viking Longhall property is like stepping into a cute, quirky woodsy fantasy. The unique building design and landscape layout are all charming. The Creekside Cottage was simple, cozy, and well provisioned. David is an excellent host, available and very considerate. I would stay again.

The Sugar Shack is the perfect secluded primitive stay! Be prepared to take one of the wagons if you packed a lot of stuff. Aimee did a fantastic job utilizing her land for campers, It’s family friendly and there’s plenty to do. The wood burning stove was the perfect addition to our cold autumn evenings, it makes it so cozy while settling in for the night. When we first got there, Aimee had the stove packed for us already and a bundle of wood. I would recommend a trip here 10/10!!

My friends and I stayed at the Longhall for my 30th birthday and it was one of the most memorable birthdays I have ever had. The Longhouse itself is beautiful—you can feel the craftsmanship, care, and spirit that went into creating such a special place. Such a cute and unique place! I originally got Hipcamp to find some places for tent camping but thought the cabin was too cute. We loved the whole set up and farm. It’s private and well cared for. We loved the veggie and produce stand by the firewood. We also had a lovely farm cat stay with us for the second evening which was adorable. We are not afraid of bugs and spend most weekends camping but there were definitely a surplus of stink bugs in the cabin which made me a bit meh, mostly they were present in the daytime so not terrible at night. Guessing just a seasonal thing but definitely something to consider if you’re weird with bugs. Otherwise, everything was perfect!!

Weekend Trip to Fruitdale Farm

This place was truly magical. I did not want to leave. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and spent the weekend snuggled in the woods at the Sugar Shack. We enjoyed all of the trails connecting through the property, took advantage of the sauna, and took some homemade goodies home from the farm stand. I'd love to go back in the winter and enjoy the wood burning stove inside the shack. It wasn't quite warm enough for us to take advantage of it this trip.

Weekend Trip to Fruitdale Farm

We have never had a bad HipCamp experience, but Aimee’s farm far exceeded our expectations. Fruitdale Farms is an absolute gem of a retreat. It’s obvious that Aimee puts her heart and soul into this land. The Sugar Shack is such a charming place to unwind and reconnect with friends and nature. We can’t wait to return with our kiddos and friends to try out one of the beautiful campsites on the property. We will be back again and again. Thank you, Aimee!

I enjoyed my time at Fruitdale Farm. The Cedar Sanctuary was just as described. It is tucked in its own little grove and offers peace and privacy. The bed was very comfy. The land is lovely and well cared for. Lots of beautiful trials nearby.

Host was so kind, checked in to make sure we had everything we needed in the evening and again in the morning. Met us when we got there to make sure we knew where everything was. The site was so beautiful and peaceful and so many cute little cats. The cabin had everything that we needed. Was a perfect trip!

The sugar shack is a gem tucked away in the woods with the most beautiful views. We had to opportunity to look at all the tiny houses Aimee has on her property and they all had there own unique charm. We will be back!

2 nights at Fruitdale Farm

My partner and I really enjoyed our stay. We were celebrating her birthday and the accommodations were perfect. This campsite is secluded and quiet. We needed a canister of propane and Aimee came through for us using venmo. Quick and easy communication. I would suggest packing light for this campsite however, there are 2 steep hills to conquer if you use the provided wheel barrels it can be a bit strenuous. Also the solar lights inside the a-frame didn’t work and neither did the white bulb lights outside. We brought plenty of lighting so it wasn’t that big of a deal. The trails were fun to navigate during our stay, overall a beautiful property!

Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall

We had such a a great time. The camping area was amazing. Plenty of space for tents and all the cottages and cabins where each different themes and a few to choose from. Most camp sites are a few steps from the creek which is a bonus. David was such a great host, he was cutting firewood for us when we arrived. He made sure there was no want for anything. they best part for us was the beautiful night sky. We spent so much time just staring at all the stars and enjoying the night that our necks hurt. We are looking forward to going back and bringing our friends with us.
