Camp, fish, and explore the high desert, rivers, reservoirs, and canyons in northern Nevada.
Part of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation, Owyhee sits just south of the Nevada-Idaho border and offers access to a range of camping options around reservoirs, the Owyhee River, Owyhee Canyon, and the high desert. Fish for rainbow trout and enjoy electric or dry camping around Mountain View Reservoir, Sheep Creek Reservoir, and Lake Billy Shaw within the reservation. South of Owyhee, the BLM-run Wilson Reservoir Recreation Management Area and the Wildhorse State Recreation Area both offer wildlife watching, boating, and year-round fishing, with seasonal camping available around Wilson Reservoir and year-round camping available around Wildhorse Reservoir. Nearby Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest offers hiking, mountain biking, off-roading, fishing, hunting, and several developed campgrounds, along with plenty of dispersed camping options. Or head across the border to Bruneau Dunes State Park for sandboarding, stargazing, hiking, and tent, equestrian, and cabin camping near the tallest sand dunes in North America.
