For security reasons, we will meet you at the gates and escort you to your camping spot upon 1st arrival. Fire wood available for sale $10 - needs to be discussed before hand. Camping available on the butte for viewing of northern lights. Lots of room to explore. Long term camping is available. 1 porta-potty on site. There is 1 mile of dirt road after leaving the pavement. We are 6 miles from Walmart. This is a working cattle ranch and the cows come through time to time. The listing computer keeps putting us in LOCKWOOD but we are actually 4 miles north of Billings. Last minute bookings are fine, if we are around -we will let you stay. We live 1 mile from the camp site and 2 miles from the gates where we will meet you. If you are looking for a RV park or campground - this is not it. We have cows, birds, wild animals and dirt roads. There is no power but we could hook you up to a generator if needed. The morning of you arrival, please send an ETA so we know how to plan our day, then give us a 30 minute heads up before arrival so we can meet you at the gates. Sometimes we also are 30 minutes away. A lot of the time you may be the only campers out here. We now have an area for SCOUT TROOPS / CHURCH CAMPS in Hipcamp for large groups of tent campers

We have many locations on our ranch for groups to gather. You can find us on Hipcamp under Trees, Lake View, and Rock Buttes. We can accommodate many tent campers outside of our normal Hipcamp area; there is another set of trees to camp under, as well as a couple of acres of tall bushes to camp in or up on the rocks.
There is a $50.00 minimum nightly charge for groups of up to 25 people and 4 vehicles at the campsite, and $80.00 for groups of up to 80 people and 8 vehicles. We strive to keep vehicle traffic to a minimum. We raised six kids out here and have received an 84% rating.
Once a year, we host a third-grade class for the day. We take them on a flatbed trailer pulled by a farm tractor up to the top of the buttes to throw pine cones, then go fossil hunting. Later, we take them in the horse trailer to the corrals and run them through as if they were calves. We weigh them, brand them, vaccinate them, and give them an ear tag. Bottom line: we are used to kids!
NOTE: We are not in Lockwood. The Hipcamp program often lists us there, but we are actually located 4 miles north of Billings off Highway 87 North.

Such a nice relaxing spot to spend the evening. Creekside, with abundant water foul and birds all around your camp spot. Deep fire ring that keeps fires large, but safe and a nice wooden picnic table to eat at near the creek. Mowed area, nice and level. They have a nice outdoor toilet and big spots to park. We had the place all to ourselves and just enjoyed every minute. The host was super friendly and helpful, showed us to our spot. Wood was there for use. It is a quiet spot, however there is a slight road noise from the highway. Not too bad and it didn't bother us at all. The crickets and birds were louder than the traffic. I would definitely return another night if ever in the area again.

I can't imagine nicer landowners as hosts. We felt very welcomed, appreciated and like our stay actually mattered.
We loved the silence, but more, we loved what the silence let us hear.
Birds, cows, cranes, coyotes, and the actual quieting of the day as night fell. During a log sunset, first one type of bird then another stopped making noise, until the last sound before full darkness settled was a Canada Goose, who honked three times.
Why do they always have to have the last word?
I imagine it disturbed the Meadow Larks who were the first to turn in for the night.
This was our first trip of the year, a 'settle in to the system' if you will, that was convenient to home. We expected little beyond that.
What we left with was peace, hiking stories, and appreciation of this unique space and the people who let us enjoy it. We settled in, and can't wait to return.

This is an nice place to stop in Billings. The family provides a nice campsite with full hookups.
I really have no suggestions for them. The camp is out in the county. We saw plenty of wildlife. Such as: pheasants, geese, and deer.
There are two big pluses for bike riders or campers with a second vehicle.
For Bicycles:
1) The city is full of special lanes that make it easy to bike near traffic. Less than 3 miles to downtown. We found a nice art museum, coffee with fresh baked goods. Our knitter found a shop that was well stocked on the level of the Wooly Thistle.
2) There is also an easy way to cross the two highways using Sugar Rd. After crossing go north you ride through country roads to the Jim Dutcher Trail (entrance is at the water works, you can go north or south on the trail). By going south after the overpass you will end up on the frontage road. Keep a watch and you will find the paved north entrance to Yellowstone River park. Once you are in the park keep exploring and you will find more trails on Norms Island which we feel had the best trails.

We had a conference in town and this was a great place to stay. Wyatt was very friendly upon arrival. Set up was easy and spots were nice and level. We didn't spend much time there, mainly to sleep. One downside is the light over the two camp areas is extremely bright and was right over our bedroom area. It was difficult to block out the light. I understand the need for light for safety, but dimming it a bit somehow would be helpful.
