American Prairie has built three small huts here, each distinct and anchored to a chapter of this landscape's story. Weekend Trip to American Prairie Craighead Hut

Absolutely gorgeous site! So much to see and so many opportunities for hiking and other adventures, and great views everywhere. We saw so much birdlife, and visited the new Judith Landing State Park. The huts were clean and comfortable, a great accommodation and a wonderful way to experience a wide open prairie and working landscape. We'll be back!

3 nights at American Prairie Lewis And Clark Hut

This was our sixth visit to the American Prairie, in what has become a spring tradition. We fretted about the roads until the last minute, but pulled the trigger when Anna from AP texted to say the road to the Lewis & Clark Hut was passable. Yep, from Winifred in, it was a little rutty, squirrely and slippery … but SO worth the effort. The previous tenants could have left it a little cleaner (sweep and mop, people!), but the “hut” was in good shape. We had a few rain showers, but mostly great weather — stunning sunsets, and sunrises with an amazing dawn chorus of birds. In three days, we tallied 37 species of birds, mule deer, beaver, coyotes, elk and the perfect bunch of horses to complete the western scene. Yes, you can see the Judith Landing bridge from the Lewis & Clark Hut, and a couple of ranch yard lights at night, but at the Meyers Family Huts, you genuinely feel away from the crazy world. It’s as far back in time as you can travel in a Chevy Silverado.

Craighead Hut is nestled amongst lovely Cottonwoods, with fabulous bird life. The grassy flat area around the hut makes it easy to play games and is perfect for children. Also really lovely being near the river for a quick dunk. Would highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to American Prairie Founders Hut

The views around Founders Hut are among the most special in the world. What an incredible treat to be able stay on this land. It feels like you have been transported back 200 years - the whole area tingles with magic. The hut itself is lovely, too. Highly, highly recommend staying here! Thank you to American Prairie for the massively important work they are doing to restore this ecosystem to its former glory! And for sharing it with all of us :)
