Beautiful camping experience on our little slice of heaven. Lake Shawood is a beautiful, natural spring-fed, non-motorized lake that primarily borders the City of Novi's exquisite Lakeshore Park. Lakeshore Park has everything from playgrounds for very young children and older children, to picnic pavillions and a sandy beach, and miles of hiking, running, and biking trails.
We fell in love with this property the second we walked behind the old cottage.
I love nature and being outdoors, especially hiking and biking. We are still making improvements on the land with a small garden, which you are welcome to enjoy during your stay. Our big-picture vision is to renovate the old cottage and live in it.
This property is about 1/3 of an acre and has 1 large old oak tree and garden beds with flowers, herbs, and vegetables. (You can help yourself to any of the fruits or vegetables that are ripe)
We are on an old smaller home/cottage-style small residential street. Please keep in mind, that this is a spot for family and friend fun with the awareness of keeping it a sanctuary space for the neighbors as well.
Enchanting Lakefront Camping Site
Pitch your tent and bring your family and children to our exquisitely beautiful site. The property sits on Shawood Lake, a non-motorized private waterfront site. There’s plenty of room to park your car, pitch a tent, enjoy a campfire, and the beauty of all types of birds (swans, geese, ospreys, and the occasional bald eagle), and animal life. The sunsets in this area are breathtaking.
Take a short 30-second walk and enjoy Pavilion Shore Park, a family-oriented park with a playground, swimming, fishing pier, and waterfront seating of Walled Lake. You’ll also find public restrooms which are open until 10 pm through the summer and a restaurant across the street.
We also have a portable camping toilet with a nice pop-up tent for privacy.
Lakeshore Park is a 5-minute walk, an 11-acre park with volleyball, swimming, bike, and hiking trails (more than 10 miles of mountain biking and multi-purpose trails), horseshoe pits, BBQs, picnic shelters, and play structures.

Spending the evening here was the most enjoyable and relaxing experience I’ve had camping 🏕️ I stayed in my little camper van and it was perfect for my vehicle! Woke up to bird song and soft rustling prairie grasses. Couldn’t ask for a better experience. The host was kind and generous and was a perfect fit to this fairytale style camping trip. I plan to make many return trips ☺️

The site was nice; an wide open plot of lush grass with tall shrubs encircling it so we weren’t right next to the road, although it was audible still. Right next to the Lefurge Preserve, which was really beautiful the morning we dropped by. Lyanna was very responsive and kind!

On a 6 week camping road trip and so glad we ventured off the beaten path and found Carls property. Great kind hosts that made sure we had what we needed to make it a special stay. The property is big and beautiful with rolling hills, and an abundance of wildlife. Our site was very clean and secluded and made for a very peaceful night sleep. 100 recommend this to anyone looking for a great safe space to stay. One of our favorite spots so far!

This was my first Hipcamp experience.
Our host was great. They were very responsive and helpful and very accommodating when we got there. They filled tiki torches, delivered firewood, and we had some laughs before we started to set up camp.
The site was clean and the property is beautiful. We pet the goat, and the turkey laughed at us.
There are outdoor showers (heated) a short walk up the trail. There is a cool trail that loops around the property.
The train, as mentioned by others, did wake me up a couple times. I'll definitely be back at this site but I'm a light sleeper and will just bring my loops/ear plugs.
Sleeping in may also be tough considering the rooster. I usually sleep in on weekends but we were excited to wake up and get the fire going again.
There are portable toilets which are way better than up against a tree.
The location is great coming from metro area - Oxford Grill is a nice stop on the way in or out and Bald Mountain recreation area/shooting range.
Surprisingly low amount of mosquitoes/bugs while we were there.

Beautiful land and wonderful hosts who are accommodating. Tasty produce, eggs,relishes,etc for sale at a affordable price there too. We stayed at the Barnyard so we could have access to electricity but saw another spot in a more wooded area that we will try out next time. The surrounding area is so beautiful and Carl told us about a hidden gem that we explored.

Loved our stay, it was a total vibe- very raw land which we appreciate. The goat, chickens, and turkeys follow you everywhere (including the shower) which is hilarious, as they become your own personal groupies- they are little thieves though, so keep your food guarded, they stole a peach from our toddler and some watermelon. Don’t worry it was local and organic. The zip line into the swimming area was really fun and we loved hearing the train pass by several times a day. Our only issue was the amount of poison ivy at two of the RV sites, with a toddler and a dog who love to explore it was impossible to stay out of it. Luckily we were able to utilize a different area for socializing but if the spots are all booked this wouldn’t have been an option. All that said we would still recommend this campsite and would love to return in the future. It was peaceful, wild, calming and exactly what we needed. Om Shanti

As someone new to camping, this was a BEAUTIFUL experience! The Fallow Fields site had plenty of sun to enjoy the summer rays with the perfect spot of shade by the camp fire. We were happy to find a grate on the fire pit to aid in our cooking. The trails throughout the property made for lovely adventures and the hosts were such warm faces for our arrival and departure. We would definitely return again!

Tent camping at Mystic Hills was peaceful. The land was spacious and open. The fire pit was nice. There was no need to build our own. I enjoyed that convenience. Can't go wrong with having a place to make s'mores!!! The hosts were amazing. They were prompt with any questions when I asked. They were friendly and engaging in conversation. If tent camping in Michigan is your goal, Mystic Hills is definitely the place to stay. It's also convenient for access to Ann Arbor.

It was a beautifully scenic quiet homestead with plenty of nature sounds. I saw and heard all types of animals. Walking through the mini trails/path on the property made me feel like I was in a mini labyrinth, which was pretty cool.
There were milk crates full of firewood that you could purchase for $5, and the crates were the most perfectly curated bundle of firewood I’ve ever purchased. The wood was chopped and packed nicely in the bin along with some sticks and kindling, and even some birch bark (which if you didn’t know, is a natural fire starter), it was a thoughtful touch.
The port-o-John was just a few steps away from my site on the hill top, and it was very clean. There were also solar torches right outside of it, so you could find your way in the dark after the sun goes down.
I got a little isolated storm that passed through halfway through the evening which is no biggie for me, I’ve camped in the rain before, but I wanted to mention it because after it passed, I saw the most beautiful double rainbow I’ve ever seen in my life!!! I was very fortunate to see it!
The owners even let you walk through the garden which I did the next morning with coffee in hand… it was a very nice stroll looking at what they’ve grown and watching their bees working as well.
There were no ticks when I went. If you’re deterred by the tick comments, just know when they are the most prevalent during the season, and know how to deal with ticks in general, and I think you’ll be fine.
