The property was originally owned by a family name Nichols (thus the name of the lake). It was handed down to the sons who each owned half the property. The driveway down the middle of property that leads to the lake was originally a fence line that divided the two pieces of property. The brothers did not get along and their are several stories of their warring on how to maintain the property.My parents bought this piece of property in 1964 and created a camp called "Lakeside Farm Camp", a small all boys camp. The camp has gone through several changes since then but has always been owned by the Edwards family. In 1984 the name was changed to "Cedar Lodge" a coed camp that specializes in English horseback riding and offering high level general camp activities. Enjoy the peace and quiet of our totally private fresh water lake. Take your boat out for a day of fishing or just chill next to the fire. Sites are approximately 50 feet from each other. Kayak and Canoe Rentals are also available on sight, best to reserve in advance. Hiking trails nearby offer a great way to explore the Allegan Forest or the lakeshore sand dunes. We are 7 miles east of Saugatuck and 5 miles north of Fennville, our site makes a perfect escape from the nearby lakeshore shopping and dining district while keeping you in close proximity to local wineries and other attractions. Small hobby sheep farm, with a sheep pasture surrounded by woods. There are two shepherd's huts, three tent sites, a small fishing pond with a log cabin and a quarter of a mile hiking trail. It is a bird lovers paradise with a large variety of birds. The fisherman's cabin has electricity and AC (AC is new for 2026 season). The shepherd's huts and tent sites are off grid. We bought this property in 2012 and have built several buildings and forged paths throughout the 32 acres. Our road is part of the North Country Trail, a footpath stretching over 4,600 miles from Middlebury in central Vermont to Lake Sakakawea State Park in central North Dakota.
While tearing down the existing house, we constructed two bedrooms in the pole barn for a quick living space. Once settled in the pole barn, we a built a small log cabin with already felled timbers from the local woods, except for the box frame which was purchased from the local Amish. Prior to building our permanent log cabin home, this small cabin was our camp site and is now being rented to people that want to relax and enjoy the outdoors. In the middle of the woods, we created a campground to be enjoyed by hikers and on the North side of our property is a tree line between two fields that is a great small camper/tent camping spot.

Need a quiet, secluded getaway? Our off-grid cabin is on approximately 10 acres of private woods. As you turn off the main road into our cabin's driveway, you will begin to understand why this is our hidden gem. Enjoy the coziness of a wood stove in the winter or a crackling fire in seclusion in the summer- this little getaway cabin is sure to create fond memories. Maybe you will hear the horned owl at night or see an eagle while you kayak. Your adventure or a peaceful vacation awaits.
The 450-square-foot cabin has a queen bed in the loft and two cots that can accommodate more guests. Guests must be able to climb a wooden log ladder.
The kitchen has a two-burner stove and oven that can hold a 9x13 pan. Although we do not have running water, we do have a hand-washing sink and a sink for washing dishes. We also provide you with plenty of water for washing and drinking during your stay. As it is well water, you may want to take your own drinking water, if you prefer. We also have dishes, utensils, hot dog sticks, fry pie makers, pots and pans, a tripod grill for over the fire, and a small charcoal grill (bring your own charcoal). You will also want to bring a cooler to keep any food cold.
Outside, we have a fire pit, wood to collect or purchase, and a hammock to fully enjoy your stay. Our bathroom is an outhouse and has been described as the “cleanest outhouse in Michigan.” Our latest addition is a seasonal rustic outdoor shower! We provide water that is heated by solar power (or you can heat some on the stove to hurry the process!) The shower is seasonal - only available from May to September.
Within 1/4 mile is the St. Joe River which is a great place for kayaking. We also have kayaks and quads for rent. We also have some short trails on the property and a railroad bed adjacent to the cabin area.
Our cabin is powered by a small and very quiet Honda generator. It is super easy to start. The cabin’s main source of heat is a wood stove with wood we provide. An air conditioner is provided for the summer.
For more than two people will be an additional $10 per night per person.
Pets are a $25 per pet additional fee.
Pets are not to be on furniture and not to be taken into the loft for their protection.

It was absolutely beautiful. The cabin was so nice. It was quiet. It was great to see horses right when we woke up my daughter loved it. She was so happy getting to see horses. That’s all she loves. We loved getting to swim in the pond she loved using their little boat. It was just an amazing stay full of being able to relax.

4 nights at Sheepy Acres
We have been to Sheepy Acres before. Titus is an amazing host that will go as far out of his way as humanly possible. Our family had the pleasure of staying in the Fisherman's Wharf cabin which is a plenty big enough cabin for our family. Our dogs were able to run and chase the ball, say hello to the neighbor horse, and even go for a quick swim in the pond. We spent hours together fishing, with a family best catch of a huge sunfish, bluegill, & small mouth bass. Peace and quiet was all that we were hoping for! Thank you, Titus!! We can't wait to return!!

Weekend Trip to Baggins Inn
Thoroughly enjoyed staying at this cabin. It is kept in superb condition, and as described. Quiet and peaceful, far off the road and away from other houses. Screens over the main door and the windows allowed you to enjoy the fresh air without all of the bugs! Loved the extra touches like a tic tac toe game to pass the time and freshly picked wildflowers. Thoughtful, friendly hosts for sure. Property was well maintained for driving and hiking. Looking forward to future stays! Definitely recommend for anyone looking for some peace and quiet in a unique getaway!

We ended up booking an extra day because it was such a peaceful, beautiful stay. Titus was an amazing host and even refunded me the extra booking and cleaning fee that the site charged because it considered it a separate 1 night stay. It literally hadn't even crossed my mind, and it is such an affordable get away to begin with on top of everything I listed in my previous review that i wouldn't have cared if he kept it.

Book it, you won't regret it. Titus goes above and beyond. He put an extra bed in and had it made up before we even arrived so that everyone was comfy. The pond is great, the cabin is fantastic, it's overall an amazing little spot. The restroom/shower house he built is super cool and convenient, as is the outdoor wash station for your cookware etc. Not to mention, if you forget a towel or your shampoo...Titus has you covered with loner towels, shampoo, and bodywash. Run out of ice in your cooler??? Guess what, Titus has you covered there as well. You're stocked with wood upon arrival, the cabin has ac, and a hammock is strung up just waiting...what are YOU waiting for??? BOOK IT. The husband and I are planning a return trip in the future for just the two of us in one of the shepherd's huts. We just got back from our family stay today (we ended up extending it an extra day) and already can't wait to go back!

It was the perfect little spot. Everything was super accessible that we needed. Communication was good and felt very comfortable here. There are cool little things throughout the property. Swimming and fishing pond, walking trail, tire swing, sheep.

Weekend Trip to McCormick Artisans Woods/River
Our stay at the cabin was very relaxing. We enjoyed the trails and all the wonderful sounds of nature, including the rain on the roof inside the cabin. We also enjoyed exploring the antique mall the Amish store and the farmers market. Ann was kind enough to let me gather eggs myself from her chickens so we could have fresh eggs in the morning for breakfast over an open fire. It was a fun experience that I would recommend to anyone.

I was nervous about staying in the outpost because it's nearly impossible to find decent photos online that give you an idea of what to expect but i was pleasantly surprised! Super cute and comfortable with plenty of space and a clean bathroom right across the hall. The campground itself is everything it promised and more. 100% would go again

Weekend Trip to Sheepy Acres
Sheepy Acres has become our first choice, regional get away. Even when it rains, we are able to have a wonderful day. Titus has created a quiet, serene, and incredibly relaxing environment. Our family looks forward to the cottage and Sheepy Acres, as a relaxing and fabulous experience. We can walk our dogs, fish, or just unplug and relax in each other's company. We had a great time at this site! We were a large group of majority first time campers and were still able to have a great experience. The owners were very helpful with directions to the cabins, and we had an awesome time exploring the grounds and meeting the horses in the morning. Would highly recommend!

2 nights at McCormick Artisans Woods/River
Ann and Mac were awesome hosts, amazing conversations yet they gave us privacy. Wildlife is abundant on their property. We got our fishing line wet and had fun with the spring peepers. The craftsmanship of the cabin was beautiful. Cast iron wood cooking stove was great for heat and meal prep. We lived sitting out at the fire ring and listening to nature...and the occasional chicken. We will return.

The cabin was perfect and better than we remember when we stayed last year! Titus was kind enough to start the fire for us since we were arriving late. Very comfortable stay for us and our cats. You get an incredible view of the stars when it’s a clear night and the sound of the water trickling in the pond was soothing.
