We also have some games, maps of the area, decks of cards, and a fire extinguisher. There is one sharp left turn over a culvert and some dips and mild inclines, so low-sitting vehicles should definitely take it slow. The road narrows as you get closer to the site, but there are reflectors along the way to keep you on the right path. We highly recommend arriving before dark. Parking: Parking is on the grass meadow between the entrance to the meadow and the walking path to the campsite. Reflectors are in place to outline the parking area. Avoid driving beyond the parking area and down steep inclines in the meadow, as softer ground presents a risk for getting stuck. A gorilla wagon is available in the parking area to help transport your belongings to the campsite. Toilet and Shower Set-up: There is a privacy tent that contains a toilet seat over a bucket. Place a bag with absorbent materials in the bucket for your biological needs. A portable automatic shower providing hot water is also available. The cabin was womderful. It had everything we needed for our overnight stay, including heat, coffee press, some water, fun games annd books, and a clean outhouse just a few steps away. We enjoyed a campfire by the river, and loved being so close to Shepherdstown ~1.5 miles away. I hope to return in the warmer seasons!

We loved camping at Julie’s! When we arrived she help get us to the site (it was dark out already) and showed us around. Every amenity was thought of. Very picturesque setting near an eclectic town. I went there by myself, no pets are allowed and it was everything I had hoped for. It was the last day of a week long trip and it is worth staying for multiple days. Views and cabin amenities are numerous and would recommend to future travelers.

So beautiful standing on the waters edge. Cozy, clean cabin. Nicest "outhouse" I've used. Shepardstown nearby is a great little town and so close. Note: Wifi did not work well at all but only really wanted it to look up nearby places. Sadly it was drizzle so I didn't get to sit by the firepit by the river so I guess I'll have to come back. :-)

Weekend Trip to Mountain Lake Retreat

There were a lot of thoughtful touches, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the backyard was really nice. The hot tub was clean enough and worked well and the fire pit was lovely. The place felt a lot bigger than the pictures implied! The hosts communicated well enough, except missing the text that one of the two toilets was broken. Other notes: It is really three, full- or queen-sized beds + one very small mattress above the bed in the basement. It could technically fit 7 people if everyone shared beds except one small person, who slept on the small mattress above. The basement bathroom was iffy, with only a small spray of water in the shower, a toilet that didn't work while we were there, and a door that doesn't fully close.

We had a fantastic stay at Evensong Farm! The site was well set up with everything we needed — the amenities were all on point. I really appreciated that firewood (one bundle per night) and plenty of water were included, with the option to buy more wood if needed. The host was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay. It was also really cool that the two sites are within easy walking distance of each other — perfect if you’re going with friends. There’s lots of space for extra tents, and it’s nice knowing you can comfortably fit up to 12 people if you want a bigger group gathering. The canvas tent itself was great, with a real bed and even a tent under the bed. The location is excellent — just a short drive to Harpers Ferry for a daytime hike and a beer afterward. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back again!

The stay at Richard’s cabin was everything I hoped for. A wonderful view of the Potomac River, peaceful, comfy bed, fire in the fire pit, and everything needed to cook up wonderful meals…oatmeal in the morning and burgers on the grill in the evening.

Weekend Trip to Camps at Evensong Farm

We stayed at Julie's farm this past weekend. The yurt was super cute and the setup for the pavilion, kitchen area worked well for us. We had hoped the picnic table was bigger. We had 5 of us and all of use could not sit down together at once. The propane grill grates need to be replaced, bring tin foil. We never used the shower, but we used the composting toilet a lot. Definitely not a huge fan of that aspect. We hiked down to the river and it was beautiful. We just wish their was an easy access point to the river. It was very muddy, so we decided to skip getting in. Overall a fun weekend away. Definitely would visit in fall though. It was to buggy for our likening.

This is such a lovely campsite, with a view of fields and walkable paths through both fields and wooded areas, and also a creek. Julie is a wonderful host who makes us and our dogs feel at home and respects our privacy while camping on her farm. My husband and I have stayed here multiple times and will continue to return.

Catoctin Mountain Park

Sitting on the northeast end of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Catoctin Mountain Park is home to over 25 miles of hiking trails, historical sites, and camping. The park offers multiple campgrounds with tent sites and unique historic cabins and dorm rentals. Find the state’s largest waterfall along the Cunningham Falls Nature Trail, or journey through the half-mile loop Charcoal Trail to learn about the region's charcoal-making history. The west side of the park provides quiet and secluded trails where campers can traverse the Catoctin National Recreation Trail filled with historic colonial sites.

Gunpowder Falls State Park

Sail the scenic shoreline of Gunpowder River at Gunpowder Falls State Park. Sitting an hour northeast of Silver Spring, Gunpowder Falls—one of Maryland’s largest state parks—provides campers with six areas of outdoor adventure. The Hammerman Area in Middle River provides pavilions, playgrounds, picnic areas, and a swimming beach, as well as the nearby Dundee Creek Marina where boaters can access a boat launch, fuel, and rentals. Lack of on-site camping requires campers to plan ahead and explore the surrounding campgrounds, cabin rentals, and vacation cottages.

Prince William Forest Park

Venture across the border of Virginia to Prince William Forest Park. Covered by a canopy of trees, the peaceful park welcomes hiking, biking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Picnic areas offer day-use options, while overnight campers can choose from tent sites, RV sites, backcountry camping, and cabin rentals. Note that the grounds are dry sites only, and there are no hookups for RVs or trailers. The Chopawamsic Backcountry Area is perfect for secluded serenity, though campsites only hold two tents maximum and no campfires are allowed.
