Primitive camping on Caddo Lake is an experience like no other. Spanning 25,400 acres, the naturally formed fresh water lake gracefully crosses from Louisiana into Texas and is home to the largest cypress forest in the world.
The area on which this camp is located is rich in history--once the dwelling place of Caddo Indians who were known for their basket weaving and pottery skills. The site was part of the land acquired by the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
Caddo Lake has a unique ecosystem and is a high quality habitat for many species, including migratory and resident waterfowl, osprey, eagles, alligators, and many species of fish. It is considered to be a valuable water system and Texas' only wetland of international importance.
Kayaks, canoes, and peddle boats may be launched from the shore.
Visitors will want to be familiar with Louisiana State Laws concerning boating and fishing, including those that apply to children. Fires are permitted unless there is a Parish mandated burn ban in effect.

Come enjoy beautiful Lake Bistineau! We are located in a cove with access to the main channel. We have a boat launch on the property for guests to use. The dock is off limits, but you are welcome to fish from the shoreline or bring your own boat/kayak/canoe to launch from our boat launch. From about end of July - February, they drain the lake and you will not be able to launch a boat with a vehicle. You can still get access to the water with a canoe or kayak by walking but the boat launch will not be usable. Lake Bistineau has a Salvania problem, so during March - June, the water is usually pretty clear, good for fishing, swimming and boating. Mid-June and July, there could be enough salvania to make fishing by the shore and swimming not good. During this time, we recommend you have some way to reach deeper water by boat/canoe/kayak/pirouge to enjoy better fishing and swimming. You will see examples of the salvania in the picutres posted.

Pros:
- Joe and Joe Sr. were so friendly and welcoming. They were the best part of this site.
- They made every effort to accomodate our needs.
- Beautiful land, very quiet.
- Joe Sr. took us on a tour of the property, including his ATV area.
- Lots of hang out spaces under covered areas, so could accomodate very large groups.
Cons:
- The Electrical box malfunctioned and we were not able to hook up our 50 amp. We tried the 20 amp but that ended up failing too. We ended up having to run our generator, but the hosts covered our gas. They felt so badly about this and were trying to fix the unexpected problem.
- The bathrooms were very rustic. The women’s door was locked, and the men’s bathroom had flushing troubles. The inside bathroom was fine, but with 8 in our party, it was inconvenient to only have one bathroom/shower. There were no sewage hookups.
- Spaces need updating
- Price was high for partial hookup and out-dated, poorly functioning spaces

Beautiful property and some nice trails. Shady spot and helpful signs point out spots so can find it quickly and settle in. Hosts texted before and during my stay- appreciated that! Would definitely stay again.

We loved the that it was spacious both inside and outside! The firepit was a big plus for us we loved sitting outside and visiting around it. The owners had many games you can play plus canoes with the life jackets and ores. Jacksons Ranch Marina is only about 5 miles away and they offer boat tours along with fishing guides. It’s a beautiful area I encourage ya’ll to go and have a sleepover with your friends and family

I can’t recommend Hart’s Corner enough. Had a perfect spot on a peninsula. Beautiful views. Hart made sure we were well taken care of once we set up. Good fishing, especially if you can bring a small kayak and get out to the tree line.

Everything about this campsite, and our host were awesome! Easy booking, check-in, and access. Hart was communicative, friendly and very welcoming.
We arrived around 2:30, drove straight into camp, clearly marked with signs, we took in the awesome view, then got set up for the night. Hart checked in with us soon after we arrived and made sure we were all set, and gave us his personal contact info if we needed anything. Extremely friendly guy. The next day when it came to checking out, we left a bit early but Hart made sure to text us to make sure that everything went okay.
The site itself was beautiful with easy access, plenty of wood around for a fire, we fished for a bit in the lake, and then watched the stars before bed. It did get quite chilly but that’s to be expected in January!
We will surely be back as this was a perfect camping trip!! Thanks, Hart!

We stayed on the peninsula and it was an amazing spot with direct access to the lake. Views were great, the spot had privacy and the host Hart was readily available for anything we might have needed. Not hard to get to at all, I would recommend this spot to anyone wanting to explore Caddo lake.

Caney Lake Jimmie Davis State Park
A pine-tree filled peninsula around Caney Lake creates the landscape of Jimmie Davis State Park. About 95 miles east of Shreveport, Jimmie Davis SP features freshwater fishing, hiking, biking, and water sports. Cabin rentals, group camping, tent camping, and RV camping with full hookups can be found throughout the park near playgrounds and dining halls. On-site campgrounds serve as a great starting point for cyclists hoping to ride through the North Louisiana hills, while fishers and paddlers have access to two boat launches and a fishing pier near the swimming beach.
Lake D’Arbonne State Park
Fishing, forests, and rolling hills surround a 15,250-acre lake at Lake D’Arbonne State Park. Known for its five fishing piers, boat launch, and biodiversity, the park also provides scenic trails, swimming pools, and birdwatching. Trek along the 2.3-mile Lake D'Arbonne Woodland and Cypress Bend Trail while spotting Louisiana birds. Then rest weary feet at on-site campsites that have water and electrical hookups. Or splurge for seven premium campsites in prime locations. Cabin rentals are also available and offer basic cookware, utensils, towels and linens, or bring the party with large group camping featuring a dining hall/kitchen and two dorms for up to 52 people.
Sabine National Forest
Head south of Shreveport across Pendleton Bridge to Sabine National Forest. With 160,656-acres of pine trees on the western slopes of Sabine River, the forest offers fishing, hunting, hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking with nearby camping and picnic areas. Campers can find everything nearby the forest from private fish camps with marinas to pet-friendly lodge and cabin rentals with wifi. Developed campgrounds on-site include a grill, picnic table, parking space, and tent pad, as well as a sewage dump and electrical hookups at Red Hills Lake and Boles Field.
When to go
While camping in Shreveport is a year-round activity, heat and humidity in summer can be extreme. July and August often see temperatures above 90°F. Winter temperatures do get cold—January lows are around 35°F. However, most campgrounds stay open in the off-seasons as does access to winter hiking trails.
