So, being so close to the city and having this space that is secluded and peaceful, it seemed only fair to share it with someone who is interested in the same thing. You are welcome to walk the farm and see the animals, please do not feed the animals or enter their stalls or pens without permission and the presence of our staff. Staff does live on the farm, we do lock gates at night, you can have access to come and go at any time. If you need gates unlocked, we are just a phone call away. Come reconnect with nature and rejuvenate by the water at this unforgettable escape. Stargaze, watch sunsets, or curl up and read on the 15 foot hammock by the water. You’ll see lots of wildlife-ducks, geese, a great blue heron, deer, and more have been spotted by the pond. The pond is about an acre in size and we also own the hay field south of the pond all the way to the road. You are welcome to walk around the pond on the path we’ve mowed and can also walk the field (depending on the time of year). It’s a hay field and you’ll see all sorts of vegetation growing up, including some beautiful wildflowers in the spring. The RV spot is in a large grassy area next to an apple and peach tree. We also have a small asparagus patch and a raised bucket garden with tomatoes. Feel free to grab a couple items to add to your dinner as needed (depending on the season). We do have barn cats (and frequently kittens) that might venture over to say hello and a new puppy named Pepper. Pepper loves new people, but wears a collar connected to an electric fence outside, so he won’t be able to reach your rv spot. However, you are more than welcome to walk to him and give him all the love and snuggles. We also have three children that you may see outside climbing trees, reading in homemade hammocks, or playing cabbage ball in the yard. For the explorers, there are plenty of gravel roads to bike, kayaks and a paddleboat available for the pond, and plenty of fish in the pond to catch. There is also an apple orchard up the road that has a small storefront and a mini golf course in the back. Emporia is only 4 miles south of us so there’s plenty of grocery stores and restaurants nearby.

Beautifully situated along the Flint Hills Trail, the Basecamp was easy and restful. Cold water shower and very clean porta potty. Perfect for a one night stop. RV site 1 has a streetlight adjacent so pick #2 if you’re looking for darker night. Fire pits are spacious and include a cooking grate. Pads relatively level and adjacent but not cramped. Good rural dog walking paths!

We chose Bare Ass Acres for its excellent reviews and for its proximity to the Tall Grass Prairie National Preserve. The good reputation is well deserved: Brenda is a very welcoming host, the sites are fairly flat, with water and electricity, and availability of sewer. You can hear the train, but it certainly didn't keep us awake. We stayed 2 nights. Brenda, we enjoyed our conversations. If we ever travel to this area again we will definitely stay at this hipcamp again.

3 nights at Camping @ the Horse Farm

Cheryl gave us the option to switch to site 2 because our hook-ups are on the Driver's side. We had trouble getting level in site 1 due to the recent rains that made the ground very soft, so in the end we stayed in Site 2. Site 1 has a beautiful pasture view and nearby playground, and Site 2 has a fun view of the beautiful horses. You can't go wrong with either site. There are also dogs, roosters, turkeys, and goats nearby. The cacophony of farm sounds didn't bother us, but warrant mentioning in case potential guests reading this review are sensitive to noise. There is also an Air Force base nearby, but I barely noticed it. The resident dogs are free-roaming, but they are friendly. My dog isn't generally a fan of other dogs, and the resident doggies were not a problem for us. Site 2 has full hook-ups, and we didn't need any leveling blocks at all. We enjoyed our stay very much and appreciated the flexibility to switch sites at the last minute. Even with the significant rain, the ground drained well around the site and the driveways. We had no trouble walking our dog or pulling the trailer in and out. We love the Hipcamp experience a thousand times more than RV parks. We are so grateful that owners like Cheryl host RVers.

1 night at Basecamp Flint Hills

If I could give it stars, I’d give it a 10! Very simple, beautiful setting. Amy, the host was very responsive. I’m not sure August is the best time to visit. VERY hot and little shade. But we were in our RV, connected to power, so we could run our a/c, and once the sun went down, it was very pleasant outside. The shower is described as a cold water shower. It because of the weather, the water was hot for a couple of minutes, and even when it cooled down, it was quite nice, and what a setting! It would be fun to be there with people around, so we hope to come back during a more popular time to visit. Easy access to Emporia, and located right on the Flint Hills Trail. We highly recommend.

Quick and friendly check in, super clean restrooms and shower facilities. Very well maintained RV park with many long-term rv’s in place. Neighbor campers were clean, quiet, respectful. Lots of grassy areas to walk the dogs and a dog park. Small playground for kiddos. Overall, very nice park and easy on/off the turnpike (10 miles)

We enjoyed a peaceful retreat at Basecamp Flint Hills during our cross country travels. There is a public trail nearby for walking or riding if you need to stretch your legs. View gorgeous sunsets, watch hordes of lightning bugs after dark, and listen to the birds in the morning from your campsite.

I am a " senior" and it was a challenge getting there! Google maps failed miserably! It was a challenge backing into the site! Keep in mind i seek out drive thru sites! It really is a gorgeous site....if you have been traveling all day....this is an oasis! What hoot this site would be if you were traveling with friends and wanted to kick back! I hope they follow thru with maps and directions! A plus was being able to call and get a quick response! I would stay there again!

Oh my goodness!! Can I give 10 stars? 🥰 Leah is the sweetest, kindest and oh so gracious host. We had such a beautiful time on her farm. Such love and creativity everywhere you see and walk. We were treated like family. Was actually teary saying goodbye!! Every aspect was perfect. Homey, beautiful and so so welcoming. Do not pass this beautiful place up. We are leaving w such beautiful memories. Sweet Kiddies, kittens and adorable dog all completed the sweet stay. 🥰
