We have a lovely piece of property to come enjoy a getaway at. We enjoy all of the peace and quiet around here. The night sky is unbeatable in my eyes. We have a small hobby farm with lots of very tame animals. We have 42 acres to roams with lots of trails within the woods that are filled with aged oak trees and many young maple trees. Our property is filled with lots of wild flowers and wildlife. We are locate 3 miles from the root river if you enjoy fishing or going for a float down the river. There are two caves in our area that are a must see while you are visiting. I you like to hike there is a state park 14 minutes from us that have many miles of hiking trails and horse trails. If you are more the small town strolling type of person we have lots of small towns around us that are filled with shops and lots of great food! There is a large system of bike trails in our area that make a very fun way to check out some of the small towns. If you have a family with kids we have a lot of fun activities you can do with your kids, like spending time with the goats, chickens and ducks, playing on our playground, or taking a nice walk through the woods looking for fossils!

The topography is diverse, having steep heights, easy flats and everything in between; which makes hiking fun and interesting. The lower College Drive side features a historic limestone homestead and quarry, also a fossil rich creek-bed and rustic (4WD) road to the top. The upper property (Hwy. 52 access) offers a secluded forest as well as a spacious meadow. The woods are filled with birds and many other indigenous wild animals. We are only a half mile from towns edge and two miles from its center (also a five minute drive from Luther College). People come here year round for our outdoor recreation and beauty. Canoeing, Kayaking, Fishing, Tubing, X-country skiing, and Trail Riding are very popular activities around here. Bring a side-by-side or ATV and have a blast both on the property and around the area. Decorah has several museums, a movie theater, 2 golf courses and bowling alley in addition to dozens of charming shops and several restaurants. You'll never get bored staying at Cedar Springs.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE: The loft, where the two beds are, is accessed VIA A ladder. It can be difficult to access if mobility is a concern, so please keep this in mind. The bathroom consists of a porta-potty and a private outdoor shower located behind the cabin. There is no running water directly to the cabin, but hot, running water is located in the outdoor shower. Drinking water is provided via a Culligan water dispenser in the cabin.

The lower College Drive side features a historic limestone homestead and quarry, also a fossil rich creek-bed and rustic (4WD) road to the top. The upper property (Hwy. 52 access) offers a secluded forest as well as a spacious meadow. The woods are filled with birds and many other indigenous wild animals. We are only a half mile from towns edge and two miles from its center (also a five minute drive from Luther College). The Decorah area is well known for its scenic natural beauty and has extensive hiking trails, biking trails, cross-country ski routes, rivers, creeks and hunting areas. People come here year round for our outdoor recreation and beauty. Canoeing, Kayaking, Fishing, Tubing, X-country skiing, and Trail Riding are very popular activities around here. Bring a side-by-side or ATV and have a blast both on the property and around the area. Third time at The Edge charming rustic cabin since earlier this summer. It was wonderful to see the seasonal differences of the surrounding corn and soy bean fields over the months. Other than the host Edward stopping by on the day of arrival to show me the ropes of the wood stove, my dog and I had complete solitude for four nights. Like my last two visits, I hit the weather jackpot with sunny breezy days near 65-70 degrees and mild nights. Hard to imagine tiring of this sweet place. Edward has been timely in responding to all my questions and for those who aren't familiar with the general area, everything you can imagine for your camping/cabin/food needs are about 10 minutes away (Fleet Farm, Menards, various fast and slow food restaurants, etc.).

This was a great place to escape to for some time in nature, while being close to town if you need to run and get anything! The campsite is set up so well with a lot of nice amenities. Loved the decor and set up in the tent. The lavender spray was a great touch! And the property to explore and immerse yourself further into nature was so wonderful! I heard and saw so many different bird species at the site and further into the property. When I was relaxing by the river a blue heron flew by a few times, also a juvenile bald eagle and adult bald eagle, I heard some turkeys and I saw 2 deer! It also rained for a little bit and it was sooo relaxing to read my book and listen to the drops hitting the tent. It was the perfect place to spend some time reconnecting to myself and nature!

From the moment my husband and I arrived with our two pups at Whispering Winds Retreat, we knew we’d found something truly special. Tucked into this lush corner of nature, the land feels alive—towering trees, gentle textures of grass and the rustle of leaves instantly set a peaceful tone. Beverly has created such thoughtful spaces, like the outdoor meditation area, that invite you to pause and breathe. We stayed in the Fantasy Woodland Haven, which was the perfect balance of rustic and comfortable. It felt off-grid enough to be an escape, yet had all the amenities to make our stay relaxing and restorative. Every detail—from the cozy fairy décor to the privacy of the space—was intentional. One of the best parts was how much our dogs enjoyed it, too! Whispering Winds is incredibly dog-friendly, with a private dog park, wooded trails, and little touches that made our pups feel just as welcome as we did. Watching them run, explore, and settle in so happily made our experience even more meaningful. Beverly, the host, is a gem. Her warmth, authenticity, and passion for creating a place of renewal shine everywhere you look. She made us feel so welcome, and we left not only refreshed but inspired. Plan to unplug and let nature set your pace. Bring good shoes, watercolors, maybe a fishing pole—but also be ready to leave expectations behind. This was my second trip to the cabin at The Edge; it will likely not be my last. This is one of my favorite places to visit! First, a few things to consider: The entire property has no electric or potable water. The ceiling lights inside the cabin are VERY dim, so bring good supplemental light. The exterior light over the door is also VERY low light. The lovely hanging garden lights around the parameter of the site are lovely but dim solar lights. Second, bring something to use for curtains. There are four windows in total; I use a cut up light weight canvas painter's cloth cut into quarters and they work really well! I tie them back during the daytime for added light. Third, this cabin in RUSTIC, in that there are well-used (not fresh) sheets on the beds and is quite dusty. I bring my own fitted sheet and blankets/pillows. Some folks might like to use a sleeping bag instead. Fourth - there was recent rain and lots of mud; one family using a tent site got stuck - they were driving a van rig and pulling a car - ultimately, they had to call a pro towing service and it ate up a couple of hours of their day and a few hundred $. I imagine this can be remedied by contacting the owner first to hear about conditions. This is a beautiful little area that I cherish. There is airplane and car noise, but I was easily able to block it out and enjoy the birds. On the edge of a wooded area and up-close-and-personal to acres of corn and soybean fields. I can hardly wait to return.

I really enjoyed camping the air conditioner was really nice to have there was lots of space for my dog to be off leash i thought the toilet with running water was really a neat way to save on water and be able to wash your hand ls RJWas nice I will definitely come back again

Weekend Trip to Whispering Winds Retreat

Whispering Winds was the weekend away we didn't know we needed. The dog park was incredible for our tripod who we have difficulty taking to actual dog parks!! She loved the resident and non resident animals! The lands are beautifully curated and designed with the human and dog in mind. We loved the paths, the community kitchen is such a great bonus! We can't wait to come back!
