Ranch lands of a prior Horse Ranch at the edge of town is conveniently located. Most of the property is pasture area but plenty of yard for tent camping and LOTS of space for those who want to pitch a tent in the pastures. We have small goats, chickens, and turkeys on-site (please do not enter barn or animal pens). There are no hookups for water or power, but we can accommodate some use of water from our spigots.
We live about 2 miles from our local lake, which has boat access and paddling access.
The beautiful view of sunsets and sunrises are spectacular more times than not. We host large herd of deer traveling and sometimes bedding down in our pastures, so be sure to watch early mornings for them to be on the move.
We are very close to town, but the 18-acre site brings a serene aspect to the grounds.

Besides the rad name inherited from an old coal mine, Pyramid State Recreation Area’s 19,701 acres makes it the largest state recreation area in all of Illinois. There are also more than 500 acres of lakes on the property, ranging from a meager 0.1 acres to a substantial 276 acres. That bad boy is known as Super Lake and is held in high regard by anglers seeking largemouth bass and bluegill. Lost Lake (a hike-in lake) and some other small lakes contain a hybrid of green sunfish/bluegill.
Land lovers can take advantage of 16.5 miles of foot, horse and mountain bike trails where you’re bound to encounter a sampling of the wildlife that includes songbirds, deer, squirrels, beavers, rabbits, turkeys, bobcats, raccoons, opossums, coyotes, weasels, minks, woodchucks and waterfowl. Future plans are in place to add even more trails to the park.

With its rolling hills and timbered shoreline, Ramsey Lake State Recreation Area has become a popular spot for relaxation and recreation. Visitors enjoy quiet strolls in the forest, secluded picnicking, as well as more energetic activities.Fishing is huge here, so the lake is managed by draw-downs and stocking. Some species found are largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, channel catfish and black crappie. Hit up the concession stand for supplies. Other popular pastimes include hunting (dove, pheasant, quail, deer) and winter sports like fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, sledding and ice skating. There’s even a 13-mile designated snowmobile trail.

It was a safe place to stay, and the bathrooms had a heater in them which was nice given how cold it was. There was no hand soap or toilet paper, so prepare accordingly. The website and listing doesn’t make it exactly clear but this is largely an open concept RV park, limited wildlife, with several long term residents. It is right next door to a pipeline plant that has very bright lights on all night long. It isn’t the most peaceful location because of that, and isn’t where I’d recommend going to for a getaway retreat. But it is safe and has some nice amenities. Worked out good for a place to sleep on a long roadtrip. Also just as an fyi for the potable water, there is a hookup setup for water if you have an RV. If you do not have an RV though, you will need to use the bathroom sink. We boiled it and it was fine.

The site is pretty much what we expected as based on images from the website, but it was also much more. We had an unfortunate event or three prior to arriving, let the host know our pop up was not working properly but we had a tent. She was welcoming and friendly.
it is difficult to put into words the calm I felt sitting on the patio feeling the cool breeze off the pond and listening to the music of splashing water.
Another "wow" moment was the fact that the host had a family party on the private area across the pond and we really didn't hear much at all.
The bathroom/shower was clean and the water was hot.
the sites are new gravel, so keep toes and soles in mind. the play area and firepit seemed inviting. This place is highly recommended.

Brady’s place was just right for a one-night stopover on my cross-country trip! There is soft grass for pitching a tent, and a graveled area if you have a trailer. Brady provides a small picnic table, a cooking table, and several chairs, all under a spacious canopy for protection from rain (or hot sun!). There are also lights, an electric outlet, and a hose for fresh water. The outdoor shower is wonderful! There’s also a comfy swinging bench for watching the sun set over the small pond.
My only caveat is that the area is pretty close to the road, with no barrier. There wasn’t a lot of traffic and little to none at night (so noise wasn’t an issue), but you do have to keep an eye on kids or your dog so they don’t run into the road.

Brady has a fantastic place on a beautiful pond with all the extras that you could ever ask for. This was the best night. I have spent using Hipp camp. He even had two ply in the Porta John. I mean who does that? This place was awesome. I would go out of my way to come back here and stay longer

What an amazing place!! So idyllic , peaceful , quiet.. and everything we needed & more for our stay . We’ve had 3 long days of travel from Colorado with grandkids & dogs. We sure appreciated this wonderful place . The host was super communicative & extra helpful with any of our questions . The outdoor shower was perfect .. especially because it’s been hot & humid . The grandkids loved hanging out by the pond & exploring. We also think we learned about a new toad ( the Wood houses toad .. it kinda screams at night) fun for kids, adults & dogs for sure!!!❣️

One of the best camp sites we’ve ever had. Pull in site. Water pressure was great. Dump tank pipe was perfect distance. Campground was very clean and quiet. The point is by far the best site in the camp ground. Water on 3 sides. If we didn’t live 6 hours away, we would camp here every weekend. Very level site. Gavel pad. Fire ring is small, but portable. We never saw the host. Local PD drove through a few times. New Athens Police cheif said they never have issues in the campground. 10/10 would recommend.

We made a last minute reservation at Quiet Countryside Camping for a few days when the campground we were staying at flooded. Brady greeted us when we arrived and then gave us our space. The campsite had everything you could need: bathroom, hot shower, fun lighting, Adirondack chairs, fishing poles, bug spray, firewood... seriously everything. We loved the covered picnic table area and my kids had a ton of fun fishing in the pond. We visited the nearby lake beach one day and had a great time. The nights were quiet with fireflies and bullfrogs. We were there during the week so a decent amount of truck traffic during the day. I'm assuming the weekends are quieter. Campsite is set back from the road and feels private. Everything worked out great for our family!

1 night at The Quiet Countryside
By FAR this is one of our favorite spots! Not only is it a level gravel spot with electric and water…. But there is also: a pond with fish in it, a covered patio with a table, fire pit with chopped wood available, a charcoal grill w/ charcoal available, chairs AND. A heated outdoor shower! It’s off the busy road and gives a sense of country life/relaxation while traveling. It was AWESOME!
