Hidden Ridge is a peaceful wooded hideaway overlooking Otter Lake, offering an authentic, off‑grid camping experience with a few comforts of home. Your stay includes a 14×16 canvas wall tent set on a stilted deck with a queen bed and beautiful lake views. A private outhouse with a flushing toilet, hot shower, and outdoor cooking area are all yours.
We’re beginning construction on a tiny treehouse nearby, so you may see an active build area as our long‑time dream takes shape. Many campers enjoy watching the progress.
Groups are welcome — up to eight guests. Bedding is provided for two; additional campers should bring tents, cots, or air mattresses. There’s plenty of space to spread out and make camp your own.
Otter Lake offers boating, skiing, tubing, and excellent fishing. Canoes and kayaks can be rented through Otter Lake Park, and the boat ramp makes it easy to launch your own. Note: Otter Lake is a no‑swim lake. Check with the park office for fishing permits or fees.
Hidden Ridge is fully off grid. A small solar‑powered battery provides just enough energy to pump water for the bathroom and kitchenette and to power a few soft string lights. Please use electricity sparingly so the battery lasts your entire stay. Enjoy lanterns, firelight, and cooking over an open flame or grill. Winter heating is provided by a small propane heater.

This place is a GEM! Our family had so much fun, despite weather & are looking forward to going back!! Fully stocked with so many things campers usually need to take & no additional charge for these amenities- what a great idea!
The flushing toilet on-site was more than anyone expects @ such a great off grid location.
We found a small painted rock garden there & all 6 of us added to it 🪨🖌️🎨
We didn’t realize the local marina isn’t open to rent on Tuesday & Wednesday, so we didn’t get to explore the water very much, but that wasn’t their fault!

Weekend Trip to Black Sheep Flower Farm
Great cabin set at edge of woods with huge windows that puts you right among the trees. The weather was warm but this location, the lower evening temps, plus the cross ventilation allowed by the window screens made the cabin temp feel just right (and especially nice at night). It's a good sized space for those guests staying solo or as a couple. Front porch is ideal for watching sun rise. Ample acreage to explore and yet (if wanted) provides the privacy and solitude to allow you to be your true self with nature. Relax in the hammock (very comfortable) and/or the double-seated garden swing. Fun to watch the lightning bugs and stars come out at night. Didn't have the chance to meet Dennis, but found him responsive to email and accommodating to work with. Definitely recommend.

We had such a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary here with our toddler. You can tell how much love is put into this land and we enjoy it so much here! We had a very rainy night and the cabin stayed cozy and dry. The land is quiet and was perfect for letting our little one run around. We will definitely be back 😘

My husband and I have stayed here twice, and everything has been perfect both times. The property is beautiful and private, and the host provides so many thoughtful elements. The accommodations were perfect for a nice step up to tent camping. We had a snug, cozy cabin, access to a flush toilet(!!!!) and refrigerator to keep a few items in. the property was spacious and unique.
Dennis and Ben were great hosts who we enjoyed meeting while they were harvesting their beautiful flowers.
Dickson Mound museum directly across the road was a nice bonus with accessible walking trails. Hoping to go back again sometime!

I stayed twice last year and it was just as nice this year. I sat on the porch where there was a nice breeze, strumming my guitar and watching the hummingbirds at the feeder. In the evening there was a brief coyote serenade. If they howled again later, I didn’t hear it as I was sound asleep.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Ridge - at Otter Lake
My wife and I made our second trip to Hidden Ridge to celebrate our 10th anniversary. The last time we stayed it was cold and raining the entire time and we still had such a great time that we knew we needed to come back. This place is genuinely a great find! We are normally tent campers so this setup almost feels like cheating and we compare it to renting out a cabin for the weekend. Probably the best part though is the responsiveness of the hosts. We did have a few hiccups with the water system while we were there but were always able to get ahold of the hosts and they got us back up and running quickly. It really does come across that they want you to enjoy your time at this location.

We had a great time enjoying the peace&quiet. The view is pleasant, and it is a comfortable place to sleep and camp. There's a kitchen with running water & a fridge, and enough fallen timber in the woods that you don't need to bring firewood as long as you're prepared to chop some up. Dennis is a wonderful, friendly guy. I hope we can make it back here sometime!

We stayed at Hidden Ridge for the weekend and had an amazing experience. The campsite is secluded, yet still very easy to find. You can tell Terri put a lot of thought and care into every detail. The outdoor kitchen station was fully stocked with everything we needed—silverware, plates, cups, cooking utensils, and more.
The bathroom and shower area was clean and super convenient. The glamping tent was spotless, and the bed was comfortable. One of my favorite moments was waking up in the morning and enjoying the peaceful view from the tent’s back porch.
Terri also had plenty of firewood ready to go. It had rained just two hours before we arrived, but the fire pit and logs were all covered and dry—such a thoughtful touch. And to top it all off, the place is pet-friendly! My cattle dog had the time of his life exploring the area.
I truly can’t wait to come back and stay here again. Highly recommend!

I don't know what I was expecting when I reserved this little camping spot, but it surpassed any and all expectations! This place is ADORABLE ... and cozy and homey and relaxing ... it was just perfect. And Teresa was a great host who checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. We travel to this part of Illinois on a regular basis to visit family/friends, and I have no doubt that we'll be staying here again in the future.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Ridge - at Otter Lake
We had a great time staying at Hidden Ridge. Teresa had everything ready to go when we arrived and all we really had to bring was clothes, food, and water. We also brought a cast iron skillet so we could cook over the fire, but there is a charcoal grill there also. There’s no electricity on the property so you’ll also want to bring a headlamp or lantern in the event it’s raining and you can’t use the tiki torches. The property itself is really unique and situated up on a ridge overlooking the lake. We loved sitting out by the fire overlooking the lake. The tent itself is super welcoming and my wife definitely appreciated the actual bed in it. On one of the rainy afternoons we played a board game in the tent and still had a great time. The shower and bathroom were great to have and hot running water was definitely a camping luxury. We would highly recommend staying here and have already told several friends about it!

Hidden Ridge private campground is a truly unique camping experience that is a rare find in Illinois. This secluded private campground is located at the end of a one-lane gravel road that leads right to Otter Lake. There are no neighbors nearby and you're entirely surrounded by beautiful midwest forest (mostly walnut and oak trees). We were specifically searching for a place we could bring our 2 dogs and 3 kids and wouldn't have to worry about other campers nearby. This place did not disappoint- as the nearest person was all the way on the other side of the lake.
We also wanted a place where we wouldn't need to bring a tent. This site already has a beautiful canvas tent set up. It's built on a wood deck that includes both a front and back porch. Inside the tent there is a queen bed and table and chairs. Both the front and back porch also have seating- and the backporch overlooks the lake.
Outside of the tent is a seperate washing station, complete with HEATED running water! There is a kitchen sink, toilet, and shower area. The kitchen area is stocked with all the necessities needed for outdoor cooking and dining. The camp host provides coolers and a lock box as well. They advertise as a place where you "just need to bring food and drinking water". I recommend also bringing a cast iron if you're hoping to cook on the campfire. We came in the fall and the evenings were quite chilly- so I'd also suggest bringing extra bedding.

This little cabin is super cute! It has all the needed amenities. I loved having a flushing toilet and the solar powered lights in the cabin were great. I also appreciated that there was a power outlet near the bathroom to charge necessary items. The flowers were beautiful!!

3 nights at Black Sheep Flower Farm
This was the most delightful little place to spend a few days to unwind. The view is gorgeous, the cabin is cute as can be, the nearby nature access is to die for, and the bird watching is just *chef's kiss*. I came during an unexpected heat wave so I didn't get to do many of the things I had planned, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself anyway. I spent my time soaking up the birds and the views in the provided hammock. I will say you should remember to bring lanterns, bug spray, a portable battery fan, and firewood for the pit. The cabin has mosquito net lining the walls so you won't battle many bugs at night but you will hear squirrels tossing acorns on the tin roof - don't be alarmed the first few times, you get used to it. The hummingbird feeder provides endless entertainment as they flitter and fight over rights to the territory. Dennis and Ben are incredibly kind and sweet hosts and their little dog Ruby should be declared a national treasure. Bring some art supplies even if you aren't artsy because you will be inspired to sketch and paint when you spend time here. Highly recommend going to Emiquon Wildlife Reserve for sunrise when the birds are most active. The South Ponds are a 2min drive on the same road as the farm, they also offer the most beautiful sunset views I've ever seen with a lookout point and easy parking. At sunrise I saw dozens of pelicans, lots of egrets, and a few herons, sandpipers, killdeer, terns, cranes, and one chill coyote hunting across the field!
