This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. We are surrounded by jungle, with a freshwater stream running through the entire property and unobstructed mountain views. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, bugs, geckos, free roaming chickens or other elements to be expected in nature, this might not be the place for you.
Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. Outsiders do not often get the opportunity to stay back here, but we welcome respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience who can appreciate this privilege.
While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants.
This is a working farm. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. One of the most beautiful places in Hawai`i. We are at the top of a hill in a secluded and secure Homestead farm overlooking Kane`ohe Bay and Mokapu (and the Marine Corps Base) as well as the Pali (cliffs). We are nestled, in a jungle, in the Ko`olau mountain range. We have ocean access from the property (by crossing the road). Nearly are places to get in the water (such as Ka`a`awa and Ku`aloa Beach Park). We are also close to civilization and Kualoa Ranch.
We generally see the stars and the sun and moon rise. We also see the colors of the Bay change with the tides, clouds, wind, light.
We are focused on education about Hawai`i, being kind to animals (and all life, including humans), and we are privileged to be able to share our aloha as well as farm bounty. We grow chili peppers, ulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), noni, vegetables, bananas, olena (turmeric), ginger, etc.
Not pictured is the common kitchen area.
We have access to Reiki, massage, and other types of services. We have kayaks, surfboards, general snorkel and beach gear, SUPs, and connections to local businesses for other opportunities (e.g., horseback riding, sailing, rowing, etc.).
There are surfing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, and hiking options nearby. We are also conveniently near a mall and many great places to eat. It is also lovely to hang out here at the farm and enjoy the peace, away from concrete and traffic congestion. There are places to explore and a steep climb one can hike to get to the edge of the property where there are many and even more spectacular views.
We are a real homestead and aspiring organic farm focused on Hawaiian Heritage plants and a Sanctuary for animals. We have many Native Hawaiian plants, superfoods, and culturally important plants. We also have Bucket and Scream (our goats), Venus, Zenith, and Sweetie (farm cats), Ipo (Australian Shepard farm dog), turkeys (Royal Palms), and a bunch of chickens.
It is possible to get around in the near area, and on and off the property, on The Bus. The Bus stop is down a hill about 5 minutes away.
We are always involved in community and local food, so let us know your interests. & let us know if you want to plant plants, weed bad grass, attend a cacao ceremony, or donate to a good cause.

Hidden up a mile-long, narrow, winding road, across three little bridges, and into the jungle at the back of Palolo Valley lies 14 acres of tropical beauty and a cozy tent.
The tent is situated among towering trees with a view of a large grassy meadow. It is off the grid, using catchment water and solar power.
A large lanai provides an ideal place to sit and enjoy the cool breezes and frequent rain showers. The 14-acre private property, surrounded by nearly endless conservation forest, offers an exceptional setting for the restoration of body and soul—a healthy and inspirational sanctuary of seclusion, peace, and tranquility.
The land is a tableau of soft greens and gentle light, inviting you to reconnect with nature and improve your mental, physical, and cognitive well-being. Feel the invigoration and deep peace—the mana, the life force and energy believed to exist in all living things. It is in the forest, the soil, and the rain, all yours to enjoy in peaceful solitude, aside from the owners, who live at the far end of the property.
There are several short hiking trails, as well as a valley hike leading to a private waterfall.
The tent is furnished with a Civil War-era full-size bed formerly owned by the Brodhead family, whose ancestors fought in the American Revolutionary War. There is also a private shower, restroom, and BBQ grill.
Umbrellas and rain jackets are provided for the frequent, and sometimes heavy, rainfall that keeps the area so green and lush. The property is forested with kukui, koa, guava, eucalyptus deglupta, eucalyptus robusta, cinnamon, banana, mountain apple, and avocado trees, along with red, white, and yellow flowering ginger and a variety of heliconias.
The mission of the owners, Rick Ralston and Sue Jansen, is to restore their 14 acres to a more pristine condition by removing invasive trees and plants and reforesting the land with native Hawaiian species, complemented by carefully selected flowering plants and fruit trees to create a thriving tropical garden paradise.

Kokololio Beach Park is a 2-minute drive from the site. Hau'ula Loop Trail is only 4 minutes away. Kokololio Beach is a nice stretch of sand and during the summer months, swimming is possible.
When coming from the south, turn left toward the mountain immediately before the long Hauula Beach park bridge or when coming from the north turn right immediately toward the mountain just after the long park bridge into my dirt driveway. You will have the small river on your righthand side as you drive in.

We had such a wonderful stay in the Big Island yurt at Sun Farm Hawaii! The yurt was cozy and the bed was comfortable, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Waking up to peaceful farm and ocean views and the sounds of the animals was really nice.
The hosts were welcoming, friendly, and made us feel right at home.
If you're looking for a unique getaway to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a memorable farm stay, I highly recommend getting a yurt at Sun Farm Hawaii. We'd happily come back again!

I have nothing but great things to say about my stay here. I had one goal for the weekend: get away from the city and get some rest and relaxation in nature. I got that and much more. The site is absolutely gorgeous, so much greenery and enough shady spots to lounge in when it got hot. There was ample space to walk around and explore and walk my dog around the farm. The aloha mini camper was comfortable and clean, and stayed cool at night with the breeze. I loved being around the farm animals (we met a cow, a horse, and lots of chickens). The host had firewood and a lighter for us upon arrival (thankfully, because we forgot to pack a lighter). We brought mosquito coils to burn and lots of bug spray and we didn’t have any issues with bug bites or anything. The porta potties and shower area were clean. It felt very secluded and romantic, with a ton of pretty lights at night in the lounging areas. It’s the perfect place to be away from the city, but minutes to food trucks and beaches and activities. The turtle bay resort is right down the road, as well as the Polynesian cultural center. Above all the hosts were so kind. They made sure our stay was comfortable and that we had everything we needed, including helping us start our fire and ensuring we had food one of the days! I would recommend this stay to anyone who wants a romantic getaway while supporting local. I feel like it’s a hidden gem for those that love the outdoors and want an escape from the city. 10/10!

Tent camping at Totonami Farm was incredible! We loved the location near Waialua and Hale'iwa, the north shore is so relaxing! The toilet, shower, and kitchen being available on site was very helpful. We love the cats and would come back just for them! Paul, the on-site host, was attentive and very kind, he always helped us out when needed! If you're looking to get away from the busy tourist areas like Waikiki in an elevated camping style, this place is for you. Let it be known, there will be lots of insects, lizards, and frogs, so plan accordingly! Would highly recommend to anyone, especially a traveling couple or family looking for a unique, romantic, gateway in paradise.

This campsite has everything you need for a comfortable stay, including an outdoor shower with warm water, a sink, and a flush toilet. The amenities were clean and well maintained.
There is also a nice shaded area with picnic tables that provides plenty of space to cook, organize and pack your camping gear, eat, or even get some remote work done.
During my stay, I camped with both my truck bed tent and a regular ground tent, and the property worked well for both setups. The campsite is gated for extra security and feels private and peaceful.
The location is another major advantage. It is right by Haleʻiwa, making it convenient for exploring the North Shore while still having a quiet place to return to at the end of the day.
Overall, it’s a comfortable, quiet campsite with clean amenities, security (gated), useful shared spaces, and a North Shore location that is hard to beat.

Weekend Trip to Sun Farm Hawaii @ Koko Head
Cool place with lots of native plants to explore and two funny goats. There were a couple issues with my yurt when I first got there, which Peter responded to quickly, then gave me a fresh coconut! Very easy to find, clean, quiet, off the beaten path, but not far from Honolulu, beaches, hikes, all the things. I felt I and my belongings were safe there. I appreciated the kitchen and full fridges, especially great if you're staying a while. Picnic tables encourage mingling. The Lanai yurt was pretty warm in the afternoon, but opening a couple of the lower vents gave a cross-breeze that cooled it down immediately. Next time I would do the farm tour.

Tent and amenities were clean and well maintained. I spent several days exploring Kaʻena Point and the North Shore.
Paul, the caretaker, was informative, friendly, and helpful throughout my visit. The property keeps bees, and the hives are located near the bathroom area. The amenities include a flush toilet, warm shower, and running water for washing dishes. There is no electrical service, only solar power, so don’t expect to plug in appliances. I brought my own solar panel to charge my battery stations. I was also able to get internet access using my Wi-Fi hotspot.
There are a few stray cats that Paul cares for, and you’ll likely see them during your stay. One memorable surprise occurred while I was cooking outside when a large, friendly potbelly pig wandered out of the brush, strolled past the bee boxes, and disappeared back into the vegetation. Paul believes it may have been displaced by the recent flooding. I also spotted a few mongoose during my visit.
One of the highlights of this property was the sunsets. From the tent, I witnessed breathtaking evening skies filled with incredible shades of orange and gold. Watching the colors change over the course of several hours was one of the most memorable parts of my stay.
If you bring a dog, make sure it is well trained and under control. There is wildlife in the area, and you don’t want your pet bothering or chasing mongoose, cats, or, in my unusual case, a wandering potbelly pig.

My daughter loved the various fruit trees on the farm and particularly loved feeding the goats.

Beautiful and secluded, but well within reach of amenities and some incredible natural landmarks. The staff was wonderful, accommodating, kind, and fostered a community vibe. Will definitely stay here again :)

Peaceful getaway! This spot offers convenience and ease of camping with a toddler. We had the basics to sleep, enclosed toilet, grill / some cooking ware (more available upon request) and shower. Plus there is no hassle of setting up your tent. It’s gorgeous at night gazing at the stars from the deck of your tent. Really close to Ka’ena Point, and so many beaches.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolute slice of paradise!
If you’re looking to escape the noise and truly disconnect, this is the spot. The campsites are spacious, well-spaced for privacy, and offer breathtaking views right from your tent. Watching the sunrise here with a hot cup of coffee was the highlight of my trip. The grounds are incredibly well-maintained, and the hosts were welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. Clean facilities and unbeatable natural beauty—I’m already planning my next trip back!

The Waimanalo Farmstay was super easy to navigate and provided us with some beautiful views on our first camp night on Oahu.
My 6 year old loved the chickens and grass areas and we found the stay peaceful and straightforward. Thankyou.

1 night at Sun Farm Hawaii @ Koko Head
So nice! Just outside of town but feels nice and rural - loved all the chickens and it was nice to see the stray cats taken care of and not hungry or hurt. Camp host was eccentric but safe, yurt was clean, shower was gorgeous in the morning. Thanks again!
