As all the land here is born of lava, many moons ago this land began to host plants and critters. Long after, it was sculpted and a number of families and farmers have contributed to what we have today. An abundance of fruit and vegetables within sight of the ocean. Peaceful breezes and warming sun make for unparalleled tranquility. Today the land still gives back to its visitors. Come recharge. As this is agricultural lands, there are many critters. Dogs, chickens, pheasants, peacock, mongoose, and many birds. Tge invasive coqui frog is annoying to some and calming to others. The micro climate here swings from warm and dry to wet quickly. Best to always prepare for rain. There is snorkeling, beaches, local food, Cafe, BBQ, poke, fish-n-chips, grocery, Sunday farmers market and hiking nearby. It is peaceful here, but also an active farming community. As an organic farm, we put alot of effort into soil building and as such, there are soft places that will be damaged by the weight of a vehicle. Staying on the driveway is best. We will guide you to where you need to go. Our road is paved, but bumpy. With great stargazing opportunities, the camping area where is located on the top two acres of the property at 2000ft elevation above sea level. This area is an open grassy (mowed) area surrounded with avocado, kukui nut and silver oak trees. This area boasts some of the best ocean, coastline, and sunset views in Kona! The bottom 3 acres are where my family and I reside. Conveniently located just 10 minutes from Kona International Airport, 15 minutes to the beach, 5 minutes to the nearest golf course, gas station, and grocery store, Silver Oak Sunsets campsite is secluded yet close to everything Kona. Our seasonal changes are mild compared to the continental US. Summer months (May-September) are warmer and with more rain and the winters (Nov-April) are cooler and drier with temperatures dipping to the low 50's. You and your family will have this campsite all to yourselves as Silver Oak Sunsets has just one campsite. Our family plot is located on the top acre in an area known fondly as Grandma's Garden. Enjoy the country life in Kau on the South End of the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 20 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there. You don’t need a 4WD to get to our place, but you will need a SUV or truck. Go slow the road is bumpy and rough in places. We are 1.2 miles from the highway. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. Shared bathroom (see photos) about a 100 feet away. Hipcamp kitchenette includes a propane single burner, ice chest, No fridge. No oven. We have an outdoor fire pit, if you like campfires! It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is plenty of coffee and tea in the kitchenette. Boil hot water in the kettle, put cone filter with a paper filter and ground coffee inside and on top of thermos. Drip. It's delicious! This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and Tmobile work also The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! The back 15 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve. We have beautiful furnished cabins with beds, so you don't have to pitch a tent. Pillows, blankets, fresh towels provided.

There is no electricity in the cabanas but there are power strips available in the common area.  The common area consists of a large deck with picnic tables, Wifi access (pw: pickalltheweeds), power strips for charging electronics, canopies for when it rains, a 2-burner hotplate for cooking, pots, pans, plates, utensils, cups, dry food storage and a full sized fridge with freezer. Please keep the area clean. We also offer morning Breakfast Basket options: Small basket $ - 2 Papayas, 6 bananas, 2 cups of coffee.  Large basket $ - 4 papayas, 10 bananas, morning coffee during your stay.  Please keep in mind the fruit may vary depending on what is ripe.  Coffee In order to preserve water we utilize clean non-smelling composting toilets. We also have 4 hot water showers, 2 sinks and vanity areas. Enjoy the country life in Kau on the South End of the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 20 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there. You don’t need a 4WD to get to our place, but you will need a SUV or truck. Go slow the road is bumpy and rough in places. We are 1.2 miles from the highway. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. Shared bathroom (see photos) about a 100 feet away. Hipcamp kitchenette includes a propane single burner, ice chest, No fridge. No oven. We have an outdoor fire pit, if you like campfires! It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is plenty of coffee and tea in the kitchenette. Boil hot water in the kettle, put cone filter with a paper filter and ground coffee inside and on top of thermos. Drip. It's delicious! This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and Tmobile work also The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! The back 15 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve. We have beautiful furnished cabins with beds, so you don't have to pitch a tent. Pillows, blankets, fresh towels provided.

We had an unforgettable time at Waipi’o Valley at Jo’el’s campsite. Hiking down into the valley felt like we were going to a different time. We appreciated harvesting fruit for us, dipping in rivers, smelling flowers and his hospitality. This place is pure magic. It is peaceful, beautiful and full of delicious fruit. Jo'el is such a kind and welcoming host and his passion for the valley shows through everything his says and does, he really made us feel at home. The river, the beach, the valley and the trail, 2 nights was just not enough! One important detail is that even if you opt to have your car taken down the road there is still a 1 mile walk and river crossing to get to the camp itself. Totally worth it...just pack accordingly.
