Running Water Creek is a unique, fully off grid campground just 20 minutes to downtown Chattanooga. We have 80+ campsites spread out over 120 acres. Most of the roads are accessible in any small car, but some roads require 4x4 (they're marked with a sign). We have a bath house with toilets, showers, and sinks and even offer hot water! Our well and cabins are all solar-powered as we are not on the electric grid. Some info about the property: -we DO NOT have water or power hookups -we have gravel roads with a 5 MPH speed limit on the property (if you drive too fast the roads will seem rough) -we are right next to a highway and train tracks so there will be some noise (some days are better than others and we have no way of predicting how many trains will/will not go by) -none of our campsites have picnic tables (please plan accordingly) -most campsites have fire rings built, but if you choose a site without one you need to build your own

My fondest memories of the property are of playing and catching crawdads in the creek that located on the property when I was a kid and riding horses and flying kites in the fields. I am working hard to restore this property to the way I remember it and trying to make it enjoyable for those that come to visit. A majority of the property is still being used as a hay field during the summer months and two to three times a year the hay is usually harvested.

Sugarloafers is located on a portion of the old Ocoee Outdoors Zipline. It is nestled along the lower Ocoee river with great views of Sugarloaf and Big Frog Mountains. This is an excellent gateway to Parksville Lake and the Cherokee National Forest and all the activities it affords including whitewater rafting on the Hiwasee and Ocoee Rivers, mountain biking, kayaking, lazy river tubing/floating, fishing, and so much more! Our property is one of nine - 5 acre tracts along the river. As of Fall of 2024, the adjacent lots have houses on them. So while this campsite is some distance from the houses, it is currently within view. Although the campsite is back from the highway, road noise can be an issue especially on the weekends. Highway 64 is one of three major roads in the county. Unfortunatley, tents don't block the sounds of Harleys racing down the road at 2 a.m. Consider bringing earplugs or muffs if you are a light sleeper! Within a mile from the end of the driveway there is: Food - Subway Sandwich Shop and the Gondoler restaraunt. Whitewater Outfitters - Ocoee Outdoors, NOC Ocoee Outpost, ACE Ocoee Adventures Myrtles Cafe is now two miles east next to the Firefly Market. Please consider visiting these local business, they provide excellent service. Other - Rock Creek Oufitters Ocoee Store, Ocoee Express Gas Station and Convenience Store, Sugarloaf River Park and Parksville Dam and the entrance to the Cherokee National Forest! Dollar General & Foodcity - 4.2 miles back towards Cleveland (because someone forgot their phone charging cable and you want a 6 pack of beer). Middle Ocoee Private boater takeout is only a 10 minute drive east on Hwy 64. Consider a hike to beautiful Benton Falls - drive to the top of Chilhowee Mountain and it's a 3 mile round trip hike. !!!ALSO!!! Due to the massive damage caused by hurricane Helene on September 27, 2024 - especially to I-40 through the mountains - Highway 64 is now one of the primary routes into NC from TN. Expect traffic along this route to be busier than normal.

This is an excellent gateway to Parksville Lake and the Cherokee National Forest and all the activities it affords including whitewater rafting on the Hiwasee and Ocoee Rivers, mountain biking, kayaking, lazy river tubing/floating, fishing, and so much more! Our property is one of nine - 5 acre tracts along the river. As of Fall of 2024, the adjacent lots have houses on them. So while this campsite is some distance from the houses, it is currently within view. Although the campsite is back from the highway, road noise can be an issue especially on the weekends. Highway 64 is one of three major roads in the county. Unfortunatley, tents don't block the sounds of Harleys racing down the road at 2 a.m. Consider bringing earplugs or muffs if you are a light sleeper! Within a mile from the end of the driveway there is: Food - Subway Sandwich Shop and the Gondoler restaraunt. Whitewater Outfitters - Ocoee Outdoors, NOC Ocoee Outpost, ACE Ocoee Adventures Myrtles Cafe is now two miles east next to the Firefly Market. Please consider visiting these local business, they provide excellent service. Other - Rock Creek Oufitters Ocoee Store, Ocoee Express Gas Station and Convenience Store, Sugarloaf River Park and Parksville Dam and the entrance to the Cherokee National Forest! Dollar General & Foodcity - 4.2 miles back towards Cleveland (because someone forgot their phone charging cable and you want a 6 pack of beer). Middle Ocoee Private boater takeout is only a 10 minute drive east on Hwy 64. Consider a hike to beautiful Benton Falls - drive to the top of Chilhowee Mountain and it's a 3 mile round trip hike. !!!ALSO!!! Due to the massive damage caused by hurricane Helene on September 27, 2024 - especially to I-40 through the mountains - Highway 64 is now one of the primary routes into NC from TN. It worked perfect for us being in town playing ball. We were not there much but it is only 15 minutes from Edwards Park. One guy did stop on the road while my daughter was on the zip line and just asked was everything good. As someone mentioned in one of the post there is chicken houses around and every now and then if you are outside you can smell them but it is not terrible.

Doni was an incredibly gracious and kind host who went above and beyond to be helpful! The property was perfect for our single night trip, and there seem to be several different sites available depending on what you’re looking for. The spot we selected had a fire ring, had enough room for several tents, and felt secluded even though it was just a 3 minute walk back to our vehicles. There is some road noise at night you can hear, but otherwise we had a wonderful time. We had some success fishing as well along the river, which was quite exciting. The paddle board was fun as well. Would love to come back with a larger group.

It was perfect for my traveling needs. I spent majority of my time during the day hiking in GA/TN so it’s perfect to return to in the late afternoon to relax. The Bath House was very clean and the dogs that roam the property are very friendly. The trains were a bit loud and busy during the night, but it is manageable to sleep through if you’re good at tuning it out. Overall, it’s great for a place to set up camp for the night and wake up early to continue a drive or to hit the trails.

This was my 2nd time staying at Shackalakin Whats Crackin. It's one of my favorite Hipcamp spots in TN. Can't say enough positive things about this place. Where else do you have 20+ acres all to yourself? It's such a wonderful space to camp with my dog. And everything is very accommodating. Full hookups and very fast WiFi. Plus it's in a great location for outdoor activities.

This was our second stay here and once again we absolutely loved every single second. Seriously. What’s not to love? This quiet, rural and super private site has everything you need. From the full hookups to the big picnic table and well made fire pit to the views of cows and even deer from time to time. It’s just 50 minutes to Rock City, Ruby Falls and Chattanooga if you need the big city. Our hosts are always quick to reply and offered any assistance we could possibly need. They even shared some of their freshly made pork sausage with us which made for a delightful breakfast. There’s no question as to whether or not we’ll return. This place is truly a gem!

This was the best spot I have camped at in years. Wide open fields full of deer and turkeys while all alone on far enough away from other people yet close enough to go into a small town for any missing or needed supplies. The area was well kept, had a string light setup, a nice fire pit, and lots of scenery. 10/10 visit, would and will definitely return in the future. Also of note was the host answers calls even as late as 9-10pm and is pleasantly cordial.

The best thing about this site is the hospitality! The property owner greeted us and helped us find the electric hookups, the water, and the restroom - he was also very responsive to any questions I had. However, they rent out 2 spots so if you have a large tent I do not recommend getting the smaller spot, because it is very small and the adjacent landowners are very close and have a dog that barks nonstop all night. The large camping spot is amazing and removed from the barking dog. We stayed in both spots and the small spot was very difficult to fit into because I have a large tent. Overall I recommend it because it’s a great location near town and I live in Acworth and only took about half hour to get there, but it’s also fairly remote near Red Top mountain. Pros: amenities, hospitality, convenience to town, great room to spread out if you get the good site. Cons: houses very close by, just off noisy road, limited space if you get the smaller site

Adjacent to the park is the Coosa Nature Preserve, an additional 127 acres managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Rome Floyd Parks & Recreation, providing even more opportunities for exploration and enjoyment of the local ecosystem.
