Running Water Creek is a unique, fully off grid campground just 20 minutes to downtown Chattanooga. We have 80+ campsites spread out over 120 acres. Most of the roads are accessible in any small car, but some roads require 4x4 (they're marked with a sign). We have a bath house with toilets, showers, and sinks and even offer hot water! Our well and cabins are all solar-powered as we are not on the electric grid. Some info about the property: -we DO NOT have water or power hookups -we have gravel roads with a 5 MPH speed limit on the property (if you drive too fast the roads will seem rough) -we are right next to a highway and train tracks so there will be some noise (some days are better than others and we have no way of predicting how many trains will/will not go by) -none of our campsites have picnic tables (please plan accordingly) -most campsites have fire rings built, but if you choose a site without one you need to build your own

Pitch your tent on any one of the numerous sites throughout the property and enjoy a campfire in nature! Running Water Creek is a honey bee sanctuary and completely off-grid!  Most sites can be reached with a small car, but some camp sites are 4X4 access only.  There is a bath house on the property with showers, toilets, and sinks, but the water is not potable.  Please be respectful of our property!  Please clean up after yourself at your campsite and in the bathhouse.  This property is gated and access is restricted to this property and not the entire mountain, there are game cameras at the entrances and various public places throughout the property. This is nature....so there are various wild animals on the property (snakes, foxes, bobcats, etc.) so please be aware at all times.  There are also train tracks nearby where trains go by at various times during the day and night.  Campground quiet hours are from 10 pm to 7 am each day.  Things to know: -Campsites: There are well over 40 sites on the property that are all first come, first serve.  If Hipcamp allows you to book, then there are spots available!  There is no way to reserve a specific site.  -  Trash: We do not have trash cans, so you are responsible for removing your trash from the property.  This does not mean leaving it in the bathhouse, hiding it somewhere on the property, or burning it....this means you take your trash with you when you leave the property.  -Fires: Most sites have a fire ring built, but if you choose a site without a fire ring you will need to build your own. You are responsible for your fire and fires must be extinguished before leaving the property! -Pets: Pets are allowed on a case-by-case basis and must be approved prior to booking. You are responsible for your pets and cleaning up after them.  Pets must remain on a leash and with their owner at all times.  Pets must be quiet and must also be friendly with dogs and humans.  -Neighborhood dogs: The property is in a rural area so the neighbor's dogs often run through the property.  They are extremely friendly with dogs and humans!  -Bathhouse: We have sinks, toilets, and showers (water is not potable) available to everyone staying on the property.  It is not your private bathroom so please do not leave your things in the bathroom in between uses.  This property is also completely off-grid so please limit the amount of water you use.  -Public/private areas: We have a few long-term campers/cabins on the property.  Please be respectful of their space and belongings.  We encourage everyone to walk around and explore the property, but please don't go into other people's campsites to look around or steal things, that includes firewood.  Everyone is welcome to use the pavilion and stage during the day, but camping overnight is not allowed (bathhouse included). -Children: Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times, including at the bathhouse.  Please don't allow children to use any of our buildings/structures as jungle gyms.  You are responsible for your children.

This tiny A-frame cabin has a wall that opens up to the large deck! The A-frame features a memory foam queen-size mattress, basic cooking utensils and a camp stove, and an outlet for charging electronics. Sheets, blankets, and pillows are provided, but towels are not provided. Guests have access to the shared bath house on the property with showers (with hot water!), toilets, and sinks as well as a dishwashing station.

This is a beautiful site and it is nice and quiet. We used it as a stop over on a trip to LA and will use it again in a week or so. The trains are a little loud but I slept through them.

Mountainside Tiny A-Frame
First time camping ever and we were absolutely blessed by this site! It was such a wonderful way to ease ourselves into camping, everything was super accessible while still maintaining our privacy and allowing us to fend for ourselves just a bit lol I would recommend bringing extra blankets and pillows, thankfully we did and it made a world of a difference. Would so come back!

Soul Restoring!!!

Wow, just wow. This beautiful camp was exactly what my soul needed. Imagine...awaking to glistening rays of sunshine filtering through the trees to touch the morning moisture on the grass. The canopies of trees provide abundant shade for your campsite, and the little woodland critters that come out to play chase around the tree trunks. Evening shadows bring a peaceful feeling as the crickets sing their choruses. Evening becomes night with minimal light invasion to set the stage for star filled skies. The campsites are dotted spaciously throughout the campground, allowing a not-often-found level of quiet for all campers. My visit to the area was quite stressful and this amazing gem of gated natural surroundings, nestled in the Tennessee foothills was exactly the cure. Soul restoring at its best, thank you Thomas! I look forward to visiting again with time to take in more of the historical side of this area. I highly reccomend Running Water Creek Campground to all tent campers, small camp trailers and folks who would enjoy an inviting A-Frame cabin nestled in the trees. The delightful added bonus was visiting with the adorable, friendly hounds. Definitely brought a smile to see them for a wee moment each day.

Running Water Creek Campground is an absolute hidden gem and a must-visit for any nature lover! The location is stunning, offering breathtaking, panoramic views of the surrounding mountains that provide a perfect backdrop for every sunrise and campfire. Beyond the natural beauty, the atmosphere here feels wonderfully secure. The sites are well-maintained, and the friendly staff and the sense of community create a truly safe and welcoming environment. We felt completely at ease throughout our entire stay and can’t wait to return to this peaceful mountain retreat. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing time at Thomas’ land! It was so private and secluded we felt like we had the place to ourselves. Directions were clear and easy to follow. We highly recommend this place to those wanting to go off the grid for a night or 2

We had a great stay for the night at Running Water Campground. There was almost no one around, so it felt very private and cozy! There are several areas around the property for tent camping, some of them you need 4WD to access - but definitely more private. We stayed at the bottom near the bath house since there was a good set up there already. The sinks came in handy for washing our dishes too! We didn't really mind the trains, but you can hear them. If you are a light sleeper or have kids, maybe not the best spot for you. Everyone leaving bad reviews because of the trains - not cool! Thomas is very up front about it, and good luck finding a better spot in the area. We looked for over an hour for a good campground before we found this gem. Thomas was an excellent host! The dogs were friendly and Thomas even made sure to stop by and thank us for our stay. This is one of my favorite places that I've camped! The view of the stars is so lovely. Highly recommend!

The site and bath house was great. We were close to the train but it is also made very clear in the description of the site by the owner, so that wasn't a surprise. We brought our dog with us who is a rescue. He can be territorial with other dogs and there are two nice dogs that roam the property. Just be aware of that if you don't have a problem with the dogs and can look past the train, it will be enjoyable!

Creepy, loud trains and road noise

First time i've camped in TN/GA, but I wasn't impressed. Obviously just someones private property trying to cash in on unsuspecting tourists. Trashy sites, no markings, map or any sort of trail signage. Oh, and the trains running all night about 50 yards away, and the trucks on the highway using engine brakes about 100 yards away, what a miserable "campground". Not recommended, certainly not for $48/night.

Great Campsite!

The A Frame was great! The bed was comfortable and the electricity worked great. The campsite was private which was nice. The bath house was clean and there was hot water. Thomas was very nice and his dogs were the best! They were well behaved and would often come up to our campsite to say hello. We appreciated the hospitality while here and would return again in the future!! :).

Amazing campground. Nice clean areas. Showers were clean and the dishwashing area was much needed. Only complaint is the train horns all night. Got visited by a pack of super friendly puppies that made the visit.

Solid off-highway spot

Huge tent platform up front, dry firewood, fire ring, circle K down the road, right off the highway, friendly dogs, bonus points because my fire ring had wood in it ready to go. Adorable cabins. Specifically, one right next to the water on the immediate left after the shed. I’d highly recommend the cabins. Little to no bugs. The negative reviews for this place blew me away. Yes there is a train and it’s loud, fellow campers were silent. I’ve yet to find a campground that is easily accessible from the highway to be completely silent. If that’s what you want you need 4x4 or a backpack full of gear, and in fact if you did there are more spots up the mountain that would be dead silent I bet. Let’s be real here. $25 a night is a good deal for a traveler like me. Firewood looked good. 1 bundle would last the night, unlike other cheap $5 bundles I’ve found. Plenty of dead dry stuff. My recommendation is get a cabin, bundle of firewood. Go see Chattanooga.

Running Water Creek Campground was a perfect spot to cool off in the shade for a few days. Tom was a great host and has done a lot of work on the property to keep it from disappearing into the forest. Walked a few trails and my dog and I enjoyed the locals dogs keeping us company. I read the reviews and was prepared for the location, tbh it was a perfect boondock spot for my Skoolie! Will visit again as a safe spot on my way through the area. Thank you again Tom for your hospitality and beautiful spot. K

A Safe Space From The Summer Heat

Running Creek was perfect for my needs. A spot in the shade that is off the beaten path just enough so I could relax for a couple of days. My dog and I explored the mountain a little bit and he loved playing with Hank and Cletus! I read the reviews ahead of time so was prepared and that made my stay perfect. I am a full time traveler and semi-feral so it’s a win. Thanks again Tom for having a spot for us. K

Very Nice
Mountainside Tiny A-Frame
The A frame was great and very convenient! The area was beautiful but be careful leaving anything outside as the dogs are very friendly but like to steal small items (my son's toy car and a shoe). You also cross train tracks on the way in and the train runs several times a day which is a little loud. All in all still a great place to camp 👍

Creekside Tiny A-frame Glamp Site
I had a great time staying in this A-Frame. It stormed pretty bad while I was there and it proved to be strong and sturdy. Loved listening to the rain fall on the roof. The bed was comfortable and cozy. It was a beautiful property with the friendliest of dogs! I will definitely be coming back someday!

The camp was very nice and had a lot of amenities, we were only a short walking distance to the bathhouse. i saw a lot of reviews complaining about the train but it was not bad at all (we’re also used to the noise from camping at festivals). The neighbors were very friendly as well, we can’t wait to return!

I absolutely adore this spot. The sound of the creek helps create a serene calming environment. The two large dogs are absolutely wonderful companions who'll visit and gladly liberate your unattended food.

I genuinely would not recommend camping here. They inform you of a train being near the property. It is right beside it and can see through the trees and it goes off so much. During the day it felt like a train passed every 30-45 minutes. ALSO the camp is right beside a very busy and very loud interstate. That sound is non stop. There was beeping and you could hear cars wheels grinding on those little bumps that help you know when you are out of the lane. We went to sleep around 10:30 and heard the train 5+ times through the night and also constant traffic. The camp ground was also really expensive considering how it was not taken well care of. I don’t think anyone had stayed at our site for a while and the grass had tall weeds. This is the same for almost all of the other sites. We saw SO MANY TICKS and the ones with white on their backs. Luckily we had duct tape and could wrap the bottom of our pants closed. We saw ticks crawling on our tent, socks, legs, on our other items. It really sucked and was very stressful constantly checking and all the times we found one crawling on us or one of our items. Hopefully we will still be tick free once we check again when we make it home. They luckily had a restroom that had showers with hot water. There were also some really cute dogs a chihuahua and 2 large hound dogs. They were very well behaved and cute. It is really unfortunate that this camp is in such a terrible area and seems to be no longer taken care of.

Such a wonderfully relaxing spot. Lots of room to explore, an absolute baller of a bathhouse. And the two radio collared dogs help make the place feel secure. I'll be back.

The train is real and the campsite

Well, it was an experience entering this campground; I was greeted by a large garbage fire and had to wait about 10 minutes for the train to pass. I got there late though I did manage to see some of the beautiful sunset. I also was very confused about where I was supposed to be headed. I think maybe it was because it was dark, but I don’t know there were no signs as far as I could tell. The no sign thing was pretty bad, but the trains were worse. I know they weren’t about the trains in the description, but you cannot imagine how many trains passed by this campsite some nights. Maybe other nights is better, but I will not return to this place.

A little scarry drvung up and over the failroad trax the better entrance was the 2nd entrance the road was more level getting a camper in and out .the site was open and very nice
