The grant was held for 35 years before Maria Garzon, who survived husband Antonio, sold the land they called Garzon’s Point to Joseph (Jose) Bonifay. The land uses were favorable for cattle grazing and turpentining through the 1800s. Many more pioneer families moved into the area and began their own business in the booming industrial opportunities of western Florida. It came to be known as Yellow River Marsh State Buffer Preserve on June 12, 2000, when it was purchased by the state of Florida to protect rare and environmentally sensitive lands, plants and animals. Through generous donations, Preservation 2000 and the Florida Forever Program, more land was added to protect contiguous habitat of the Garcon Ecosystem. Today Yellow River Marsh Preserve State Park provides recreational opportunities for hiking and nature study along the Great Florida Birding Trail among rare and endemic plant species and within one of Florida’s oldest multi-cultural frontiers.The preserve is located in Santa Rosa County on Garcon Point, which separates Escambia Bay from Blackwater Bay. Heart of the Country is our home and also your own personal twelve acre state park whenever you stay with us! We are less than 15 minutes from Interstate 10 and from Interstate 65. I offer a half-dozen campsites, all either on a relatively level paved driveway or grass. Power (20 amp and 30 amp) and water is available. We have two 30 amp campsites, which are first come, first served. WIFI is available! (please ask for password). We have a portable toilet for your use. This is a Longleaf Pine sanctuary with lots of nature trails. This is also a hobby farm with livestock (two Donkeys, two Goats and a flock of Chickens). I feed the livestock grain every morning usually between 8 and 9 am, and again hay before dusk. You are always welcome to join me and I'll introduce all of them to you! My dog, Homer, is our very friendly welcoming ambassador who will enthusiastically great you upon your arrival. I put him up in his kennel each evening around dusk, then lock him in his shed until morning which keeps him from barking during the night. We also host an AirBnB, so other guests may be here as well. Texting via the app is our preferred mode of communication. If you call, please leave a message if I can't answer, and I will call you back. We are slowly updating the site photos. Use them only to determine your price, for example: A site with 30 amp power and water is $25 per night. A site with 20 amp power and water is $20 per night. A boondocking site (no power) is $15 per night. All sites have access to a porta-potty and water. Suggested local attraction: Blakeley State Historic Park is four miles away.

Great overnight stop. Can tell it would be a great spot to stop for awhile. Met at the entrance and after a couple of hours to see if I needed anything. Nice walking property. Clean wash house with everything you could need. Other very happy campers.

The site was perfect. Access and connection to power and water were easy. Host was very communicative and responsive. Single RV in a canopy of moss covered oaks and a full yard for our puppy. Definitely a 10/10 from all of us including our pup.

Dave & Caren are very welcoming and gracious hosts. We shared a couple of meals together which was a highlight of the stay. Their place has multiple options for boondocking or for power and water hookup, loads of space and little walking trails with multiple fire pits that you can use with plenty of firewood around to burn. Sunsets are great, with local shops only a 15min drive away for all essentials, groceries, propane refills, hardware store, bank or a 3min drive from the dollar store if needed. Very quiet with loads of trees. The best part though is you don't have to leash or pen your pets if you're traveling with them. This makes the stay absolutely the best reason to stay especially if you've been in areas where you had too prior. My water heater decided to stop and I was offered the use of their shower, again showing fantastic hospitality. Thank you both I'll definitely be back! Croy

We parked our class b camper van overnight. It was remarkably peaceful. The location was very easy to get to and once you arrived you felt like you were very secluded. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends. Dave greeted us when we arrived and wanted us to know if we needed anything to just reach out.

Thanks to the Reviews here AND the quick Reply to my HipCamp message ~ booked an unexpected getaway. WHAT a great place to start the new year and experience the 1st full moon. The hosts were super accepting and accommodating of my late arrival. It's only an hour away to put your toes in the sand! And that sparkling clean, hot shower is a huge bonus after a day at the beach. Even got a guided tour of the property. Peaceful & private ~ perfection! The hosts' care for the campers promotes an obvious feel of community. CanNOT wait to go back in the spring!

Joseph is a very nice gentleman. We were made to feel welcome immediately. The area is a series of projects, but it is nice land, and Joseph has a great vision for the area. We had a good position for our rig with electricity and running water at our site. Just beware, the water comes from a well high in sulfur, so the smell might shock some people. It's perfectly okay. This is a camping area, not a start hotel. Some of the area needs improvement, but I think he's getting those things going. I'm sure it'll be even nicer once he can get some projects finished. Overall, good experience and a great host.
