4WD Spirit Ranch is comprised of 35 acres of isolation in the lush green aspen forest, above the sage and juniper at 8800’. Somewhat hard to get to, up a bumpy road, it’s very private, quiet and green. Within 45 minutes to the city of Montrose, a day trip to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Ouray, the Cimarron's and the San Juan's. Spirit Ranch’s seclusion gives you respite from civilization. Soak in the peace. To access the property, you need some clearance, AWD or 4WD is recommended (something like a RAV4 or better). Larger vehicles will probably touch some soft branches along the way. After a big rain, the road can be muddy and slick. Not a serious jeep trail, but definitely “off roady”. The last 1.4 miles is through a locked gate through private property. Camp host is only there 25% of the time, with only two sites, you are not likely to see anyone else. Each campsite is marked, has a fire ring and flat spots for tents. There is plenty of dead aspen to burn. One composting porta potty serves both sites. You will need to bring your own water and leave with your garbage. There is decent cell phone reception (Verizon), but with towers on top of Waterdog Mtn, other providers are likely. Foot traffic to the top of Waterdog, from near the locked gate, is totally tolerated despite the signs. Blessed with the state’s finest top soil, it’s lush in a way most of the west can’t provide. A great place to play with a plant identification app, foragers will be thrilled with the amount of edible plants. Feel free to explore our 35 acres (property boundaries are not marked, the OnX app works great and comes with a free trial, our property is currently labeled as “Providence…”). Responsible firearm target practice is allowed. Wildlife is abundant. We had an absolute blast with Cindie! the yurts were so nice, Cindie was so attentive and always had great reccs for what to do/eat in town. The wine tasting was stellar. Zen Zen gardens is a paonia gem and we hope this becomes a landmark for the community. By far the most fun we’ve had in a while

We enjoyed ZenZen Gardens so much that we stayed two extra nights! Lovely garden and spectacular scenery. We enjoyed sipping wine from the terrace in the afternoons. Comfy and very clean. We definitely hope to return!

Great boondocking spot. The winery grounds are lovely. The camping area is an empty field. Nice clean porta potties with a water setup for washing hands. Nice views and a sweet little town. I will stay again.

If you need recharging, a reset, peace, quiet, Magik, grounding and to be in nature, feel the basics of living minimally with mother Earth, the trees, the mountains, this is a must. Second time here in the same year The Hawk TiPi comfortably fits 4 adults and 4 dogs. Pure Bliss. Cannot believe I have to wait until next year to come back. 🙏🪶🙏

This is one of our favorite places to glamp. It’s nice to not have to pack dishes, cookware, etc. There’s a great setup to cook. Sway in the hammocks after breakfast. The beds inside the teepees are so comfy. The host is incredibly kind.

I found this camp at the last minute, while pulled over on the side of the road. It was awesome! The owner came and showed me around and advised me on working the hot shower. There.was a pond, total privacy, with everything I needed. It was lovely and I would definitely recommend staying at CampV!

The glamping experience at ZenZen gardens is nothing short of magical. The views are gorgeous, flowers adorn the property, and the tent is comfortable & cute. Our dog absolutely loved being able to hang out on the property with other pups. We did the wine tasting and enjoyed the veranda which were additional pluses! Paonia is also a gem with a surprisingly amazing food scene and lots of things to see and do. We visited many local wineries (all charming) and made a day trip to Crested Butte. Perfect weekend!

This place has amazing views! There was even a rainbow over the mountains when we arrived. It's a little less remote than expected, but it still felt private enough. The road to the campsite is a bit steep, but we've been on way rougher roads. I would definitely stay here again.

One night wasn't enough.. What a sanctuary. Clean, green, so so peaceful, relaxing. I booked a second night in the deer 🦌 Tipi. Loved the solar bag showers, loved loved the views, and the private mini hike. Love that we could take our dogs because lots of places do not. Our dogs were in heaven. Highly highly recommend this sanctuary.

The overlook was a beautiful spot we stayed for a night while traveling through Ouray. We stayed in a truck camper and had no problem backing down the switchback to the spot. I think it would be even easier in an SUV or van. We liked that the spot was not totally visible from the road and offered privacy and felt safe and was pretty quiet. The views (especially at sunset) and the stargazing was amazing! Michael was quick to respond and it was really easy to book last minute.

When we walked through the gate, I knew this was going to be an epic experience! The grounds are exceptionally beautiful with flower gardens, butterflies and beautiful views as the sun was setting. We sat on the patio under the cool mist that offset the heat of the day. We drank wine and laughed along side Cindie while her beautiful dog Ginger chased butterflies…and literally smiled the whole time! It was like ‘living poetry’. What a perfect way to end a day of traveling through the mountains:)
