Dog-friendly camping in Dorset

·

Open countrysides and scenic beaches in Dorset provide pet-friendly camping opportunities for all campers and canine companions. For many, Dorset is seen as a quieter alternative to Cornwall, one that may be better suited to easily stressed dogs with the ample number of spacious, private campsites set up in the region. Studland Beach welcomes dogs year-round; however, dogs must remain on lead from May to September. Swanage Beach also allows off-lead walkies and shallow swimming for pups year-round. Many of Dorset's other top spots also welcome dogs, including the infamous Durdle Door arch and beach, arguably the county's most recognisable landmark. Pet-friendly camping and glamping options near the beach typically feature potable water, showers, and a fire ring to warm up wet skin and fur. Moving inland, Puddletown Forest protects over 747 acres of mixed conifer and broadleaf woodland with marked cycling and walking trails for curious canines. While the forest has no camping facilities, several nearby dog-friendly campsites welcome four-legged friends with accommodations like toilets, hot showers, and shared kitchen areas. At Dorset’s southernmost point, campers can explore the Isle of Portland on foot (or paw) to reach sites like Portland Bill Lighthouse and Pulpit Rock. Dog-friendly camping options on the isle include pitches for tents and caravans with potable water, compost toilets, and fire areas. Just remember to follow signs and keep dogs on lead when possible.

We set up our campsite to be a unique place where guests could be as close to nature as possible, while retaining some of the basic comforts of home. Think wildflower meadow with hot showers! We've gone for ultimate peace and tranquility, with a very limited number of pitches mown into the wildflowers with lots of space between. Our remote site is far from roads or light pollution, making for serene starry nights around the firepit. The camping meadow is bordered by woodlands, a small nature reserve, and the gardens of a stunning Tudor manor house, all of which you're free to explore. Nestled in a remote and picturesque corner of West Dorset, the campsite is within easy reach of some of the South West's most stunning spots, from world-famous fossil beaches to neolithic hill-forts.
