The North Fork Valley of the Gunnison river encompasses Crawford, Hotchkiss and Paonia and is on the Western Slope of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

The tipis are custom made by the Colorado Yurt Company in Montrose, Colorado where they have been making yurts, tents and tipis since 1976. The tipis are expertly designed and made with custom paintings invoking the animal spirits that inhabit our land. As you enter a tipi it is proper to walk in a clock-wise direction, to your left, and do not step over the wood poles. The Ute's held trees as sacred and after a night in the tipi you will understand why.

The Hawk has two queen IKEA foam mattress for your comfort and we ask that you bring your own bedding. We do have bedding available for $20 per set, and 1 additional twin mattress available for $20. We have solar lights but you may want to bring our flashlight, 2 private composting toilets, a camp kitchen with tables, chairs and a cook stove.  Showers are available at the local Ultra Mat in Hotchkiss, (next to Zack's BBQ with the best pie).

Our goal is your comfort and to awaken your sense of wonder by sleeping out in nature. We want you to have a reasonable place to stay while you enjoy the North Fork Valley of the Gunnison River. You can visit the many wineries, fruit orchards, organic farms, farm-to-table restaurants, world class classical music at the Blue Sage, interesting movies at the community owned Paradise Theater, art at the Creamery in Hotchkiss, stand-up paddle boarding, WSSUP, at Crawford reservoir, mountain biking in Grand Mesa, hiking in the West Elks, rafting down the Gunnison river in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park or relaxing in one of many hot springs within an hour of us.

Come and visit one of the last 'non-tourist' areas of Colorado and if you really must ...Aspen, Crested Butte (over Kebler Pass), Glenwood Springs, Gunnison, Grand Junction and Telluride all are about 1-2 hours away by car.  We highly recommend driving over Kebler Pass to Crested Butte for a day of exploring.

We are 420 friendly.

We had a great time. The teepees were very comfortable and super cool. Lots of room. Very secluded, yet close to the bathrooms and kitchen area. The skies were full of stars, as it was very dark. The teepees were easy to find. We loved the deck, where you could relax. Overall, we loved this place and will come back. I recommend it highly!!

What a special place! Our family of 5 (kids ages 6 to 14) and dog truly enjoyed the Hawk tipi. Karen and her hubby were thoughtful and attentive hosts - we feel so happy to support wonderful, kind people! The location was a perfect home base for our daytime excursions (Black Canyon; Kebler Pass into Crested Butte w/a swimming stopoff at Lost Lake; swimming and fishing at Crawford State Park; AMAZING farm to table dining in Paonia and pick-your-own orchards; and hiking options galore). We didn’t go to any hot springs bc we only did dog-friendly activities but Karen says they’re thinking of adding kennels in the future, as well as a solar shower (we used the coin-op shower at the laundromat in nearby Hotchkiss which was very clean-just be sure to bring ur own shampoo and soap). The North Fork Tipi Haven property itself had plenty for the kids to explore/experience including turkeys in the trees, a little creek, cool old trees, a hill/mesa to climb, a hemp farm (not mj). My daughter spotted a deer one night (we think-it may have been something deer-like? Elk?). There was a downpour one night, which is rare in this area, but they came and closed the cover (ozan?) and the inside stayed surprisingly dry. The one thing I didn’t love was all the tree beetles-which are totally harmless-but I’m wimpy when it comes to bugs. There were the usual mosquitoes near the creek in the evenings but we wore bug spray and were fine. It does get hot in the daytime but we came prepared with a portable fan, though we didn’t end up using it much since it does cool down when the sun sets. Overall, it was a very comfortable and affordable experience for the whole family. We highly recommend!! I think it would also be fun to get a group of friends/family to rent all 4 of the tipis out. Each has its own campfire area and deck/patio but there’s plenty of cleared space in front to bring a group together.

Our family truly enjoyed the Tipis this past weekend especially with Karen and Tony as hostess. Our family has taken many excursions to different towns in Colorado however the this trip was the best ever. Although rain is rare, the Tipis held up very well to the pouring rain on the night of our arrival. In the morning we felt the warm sun on our faces without having to set up a tent in the night. We were supplied with a fully functional kitchen without having to carry extra equipment. Around midday, we were greeted by smiling ranchers known as Karen and Tony, our wonderful hosts. They make us feel welcomed by showing us around the grounds and recommending local attractions for our family to try. We chose the wine tasting and orchards this time. At night we made s’mores over a fire and tried to count the stars then we fell asleep under the open sky. We hope to return in the near future.

This is a picture from yesterday. It was time to go back to work and school for us.

We had a wonderful time. The view is gorgeous and the tipi camping was comfortable, spacious, and fully equipped to support all of our camping needs. There is a creek surrounded by wildflowers and butterflies behind the tipis that our dog thoroughly enjoyed. We highly recommend the Hawk at North Fork Tipi Haven & Camping and are already planning our next trip there.

North Fork Tipi Haven is GORGEOUS. Not only are the owners kind, personable, and helpful, the upkeep of the tipis is incredible, the beds are comfortable, there is plenty of room, and the views are breathtaking. Be ready for adventure with compost toilets and solar powered shower bags, all clean and part of the true adventure of tipi life!

Fun place to camp. Owners were nice and even placed our belongings back in the tipi when we were out in a hike and it unexpectedly started raining. Thank you again!

We spent 6 nights here, for our first time to Colorado from Arkansas. We stayed in the hawk tipi which was very large and spacious since there was only 2 of us, but it was perfect! The solar showers were extremely nice to have and the kitchen/chill area was great for going through the hot part of the day, it had a nice breeze. Overall the experience was amazing, and we will totally be back!
