Please read all of the following information before submitting a booking request. Requests that don’t provide the required information will not be processed. Stonesthrow is a 106 acre rural property in the peaceful Illinbah Valley. Nestled between Beechmont and Canungra, we are about an hour (a stones throw) from the Gold Coast or Brisbane. Over time, the property has been used to farm goats, train racing camels and spell racehorses and is now a family hobby farm. We currently have three dogs, cows, horses, goats and some friendly donkeys who love to meet new people for some pats and a carrot! We offer a choice of sites- either Lower Sites close to the beautiful shallow creek that meanders its way through the property or Elevated Sites with views of the valley. LOWER SITES have access to facilities- toilets, a powered shed, kettle, fridge and a sink. Most sites offer 2WD access yet still facilitate the experience of camping in the bush. These are the only sites that caravans can access. ELEVATED SITES have stunning views of the valley. These sites are only accessible by capable 4WD and require you to bring your own sealed, chemical camping toilet and ensuite tent which we sight on arrival before allowing guests access to the track. Check-in must be during daylight hours to enable safe access. Off-road camper trailers can access these sites. When submitting a booking request, select either a Lower Site or Elevated Site. Please include your vehicle make and model, camping setup (tent/swag/camper trailer), type of toilet and ensuite tent (if requesting an elevated site) and number of occupants (adults, children, dogs). Friendly dogs are welcome and must be kept on a lead when in close proximity to the cottage and other campers. Please note, the availability of certain sites is weather dependant. We are not a 4WD adventure park. Vehicles must be left at your campsite and NOT used to explore the property. Exploration of the property is welcome by foot or bicycle: 1.2 km from bottom to top. Due to insurance considerations, no 'day visitors' are allowed unless they have an approved Hipcamp booking. We are a Leave No Trace campground - ensure what you bring in, leaves with you. All camp fires must be fully extinguished with water prior to departure.

Stonesthrow Bush Camping suits self-contained 4WD campers with camper trailer/tent. Campsites should be selected based on weather, personal preference and size required. Bring all that you need and remove all rubbish upon leaving. All sites are unpowered. Access to power, camp kitchen (including fridge and water) and portaloos are available at the 'Shearing Shed' (common area). The property is very private, offering peace of mind and security. When booking - please read the property rules carefully.  Dogs are welcome however we ask that you please discuss this with us first.

Our Elevated Remote sites have stunning views of the valley and are the preferred choice for the free range horses and cows to spend their time. These sites are only accessible by capable 4WD and are for fully self-contained campers only - you must bring everything you need, including your own chemical camping toilet and ensuite tent (which we sight on arrival). IMPORTANT: Check-in for the elevated sites must be during daylight hours to enable safe access. These sites are not suitable for caravan access. We reiterate, you must have a capable 4WD, with all-terrain or off-road tyres. Bring all that you need and remove all rubbish upon leaving. When booking, please read the property rules carefully. Please also send through with your booking the following information: Your vehicle make & model, camping setup (tent/swag/camper trailer/caravan etc) and number of occupants (adults, children, dogs). Dogs are welcome, however, we ask that you please discuss this with us first.

We had a wonderful stay at Stonesthrow with our 2 kids, and pup. We camped next to the creek, within easy walking distance to the well kept drop toilets and communal shed. It has a sink with water filter, fridge, electric kettle, and plugs for charging. There are several dogs on the property, which we loved, as our pup got on with them, and they visited our camp often. There was great hiking, views, and lots of animals to see. Horses, goats, donkeys, wallabies, kangaroos. We will definitely be back with friends to stay again.

My partner and I had a great stay over the weekend. Rich was so hospitable, helpful and incredibly welcoming showing around the property. Has a bit of variety in sites to cater for anyone’s needs, overall we had one of our best stays.

We had an incredible stay at the top, the views and spots are gorgeous, spacious with beautiful views. We enjoyed being visited by the cows/bulls and horses. The track to get up to these particular sites is for experienced 4 wheel drivers, we towed our caravan but definitely was a fun but slightly challenging. Steve and Richard were awesome hosts and we will definitely be back!

Really enjoyed my stay here. It’s a calm and quiet campground, perfect for relaxing and switching off. The owner, Richard, is very friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. The facilities are well kept, including clean toilets and a handy shed area. There’s a beautiful creek just a short walk from the campsites, and the whole place has a peaceful atmosphere. It’s also surprisingly close to the city, so it’s easy to get supplies or explore without driving far. Overall, a great spot to camp. Highly recommend!

The hosts were really friendly and great to deal with. The plateau camp site was just stunning with Panorama views of it the sunset. And we had really friendly neighbours in the 2 horses and 3 donkeys which made it feel more like a Disney movie than a campsite :)

This was an amazing stay! We had private area to ourselves and we loved seeing the animals (cows, donkeys and horses). The hosts were absolutely lovely and encouraged us to explore their property which was stunning. We will be booking again in the future.

I was lucky enough to get an elevated site with noone around. I had good horses and cattle as my company while I stayed on the top of the hill. Many thanks to Stevie and Richarg. Hope to see you soon

Really enjoyed our stay. We stayed on an elevated site and the views were epic, especially at sunset. Unfortunately we found that there wasn’t too much to do with a dog in the surrounding area, however, there was lots of opportunity for our pup to stretch her legs and run around this property.

What a beautiful spot Richard and his family have. We loved our little stay here the other weekend. We camped at camel yards and it was a lovely private big space. We had our camper trailer and a tent set up. Compostable toilets available for use not far from our site. Awesome hikes around the property with beautiful views up the top. Richard is super friendly and was very accommodating for our family. The creek was beautiful and very refreshing as well. Would definitely come back here.

The sites are generous and you are not on top of each other at Stonethrow. The kids enjoyed the animals, in particular the goats and the dogs. It was nice to have an undercover space to prepare food and have meals as my car in not big enough to pack the full camp kitchen. There is a fridge available to use which was also nice. Sites have fire pits. The creek was low but it hasn't rained in a few weeks so it's not surprising. Overall, plenty of space for the kids to explore whilst you relax.

Lovely pulling up by the by the creek, it was nice to have the freedom to walk around the large property and take in the views from the top. Only a short drive, about 15 mins to Canungra, so easy access to town. I did appreciate that my dog was very welcome at this hip camp, quite rare these days so I did really enjoy going somewhere where I could take her along! Would definitely stay again.

Highly recommend staying here! Hosts were wonderful and very helpful. The property is beautiful. We stayed in “Eagles Nest” and we had the whole spot to ourselves! So much wildlife as well and very peaceful.

We camped by the creek not too far from the house, compost toilet and camp kitchen Beautiful little stream (could not swim when we were there), flat grassed sites with ample shade. The property is pretty incredible up on the plateau if you are not in a camper trailer or caravan. We had a great time as a family with young kids
