We loved camping at Riverwood. The views were amazing and it was so peaceful there. We only wish we had booked a longer stay. Our friends visited the Hot Springs close by while we enjoyed lounging by the river with our dogs. We will absolutely come back again.

Very remote and private camp spot. I set up by the mountain creek. It was still running strong in late summer. Very nice panoramic view of the mountains and unmatched bright star light !

We spent one night - it does have some sense of privacy, was quiet and peaceful, and river access was good. However, I it is out in a field that has been mowed where you camp, and so if you are looking for something more in the woods this isn't it. From the description, I thought it might be a wooded area on the edge of the farm but it really isn't. We slept well but agreed, is you're not there to fish, it's a great one night stop in along the way.

We absolutely loved our stay at Riverwood. Our tent was twenty feet off the side of the Jackson River. Every afternoon as the hatch got thick had trout rising, sometimes four or five trout in the same pool. 11 miles north is Monterey where we found a wonderful coffee shop named Claire's that bakes their own bread and makes sandwiches and salads that should not be missed. We got those daily as bag lunches for our exploration. We fly fished and cycled some back roads on our gravel bikes. Crisp, cool air, sugar maples everywhere, the healthiest cattle I've seen in pastures of tall grass with mountain streams to drink from. At the intersection of 250 and 220 is a small health food and local produce and meats store. Monterey, though small and charming, is absolutely NOT a food desert. Pretty much every organic and non-gmo thing you might have forgotten is there.
The visitor's center has some of the local maple syrup for sale that this place is famous for. Many of the maple syrup farms are closed outside of the maple festival but Valerie at Back Creek Farms was happy to give us a personal tour and tasting (a dozen or more different flavors of maple syrup there). My favorites were the cardamon , sea salt, and chili maple syrups but they are all amazing.
An hour and fifteen away is Blackwater falls (in Davis WV). The drive takes you right by Spruce Knob. Davis is a biking destination definitely worth the drive. Very friendly town, and a great bike shop (Blackwater Bikes)

Excellent secluded site next to the Jackson River. No service unless you have Starlink. Met with host, who was happy to meet with us just to talk about the area. We visited the Sounding Knob Fire Tower. Also drove through the Highland WMA….recommend 4x4 with clearance, due to river crossings. If you’re into fly fishing it’s a great spot.

We camped here for 3 nights and had a blast. There are countless hikes and scenic drives to enjoy in the area and the site is conveniently located about a 10-15 minute drive from the nearest town. Service was expectedly spotty, but worked well in town. I would definitely recommend 4wd as the site is pretty far out into a grass field, although my 2wd truck did just fine even with some light rain. The host also provided firewood at a reasonable price, which was much appreciated. Overall, we would love to come back to this site again and explore the area some more!

Absolutely beautiful views of the valley and mountains. Stars were spectacular! Camp sites are nicely spaced apart for privacy AND located right at the bank of the river. Host was very attentive. Everything was absolutely as represented. I look forward to a return visit when the water level is a bit better for fly fishing.

Very private camping on the river!
Fantastic, very private place to camp. Myself and my two dogs camped at Site 1 next to the river. The dogs loved walking the trail up to the road and down to the river. The owners were so kind to give great local recommendations in the town of Monterey. The Farmer’s Root grocery market is fantastic, like having Whole Foods in the middle of nowhere.

Location is great: amazing view of the night sky and right next to the river. The grass at the site was a bit overgrown but manageable. I was only at the site at night for stargazing so it was exactly what I was looking for.

We enjoyed 3 peaceful nights at site #1 with the sounds of the river and clear night skies. Davidson’s communication was helpful and appreciated. We saw plenty of deer, hawk and heron while we were there. We also enjoyed a hike in the George Washington and swimming at Lake Moomaw.

Amazing spot right next to the river that felt very private (I was at camp spot one and no one was at the other). Lots of nature, wildlife, and a beautiful place for sunset and a bonfire with wood already provided. Would definitely go back! Thank you

The camp area is nice and this is a very beautiful area. The site of course is extremely remote - but it had a nice fire ring and firewood already there and it is right along the river/stream. That was nice. My only negative thoughts are that for a small camper, I was concerned about getting stuck and taking it that far off the gravel drive. In fairness, it was communicated to me that if there was rain that 4-wheel was advisable. The other thing that is out of anyone's control is that while sitting at night with a nice camp fire, a huge black bear appeared right across the stream about 30 yards from me!! I scared him off but was freaked out the rest of the night. It was quite an experience of camping. If you like remote primitive camping and have 4 wheel drive to eliminate that stress, I would recommend this campsite experience.

We loved our time here! Beautiful farm land and woods all around, so peaceful and quiet. The host was very responsive and helpful when needed. The river access is amazing - we spent most of our days hanging out by/in the water. Our dogs had the time of their lives. We would happily come back!!

Riverwood Fly Fish+Star Gaze Camp 1
We had a wonderful stay at Riverwood with our camper. Davidson was an excellent communicator. He answered all sorts of questions about the area and our plans very promptly. The sites are nicely spread apart right on the river. The town of Monterey is about 15 minutes away and has some a few cute spots to visit like the Cidery and the Curly Maple general store and restaurant. We also drove to the Warm Springs baths and soaked one day. We did a bit of fishing and had some success but we definitely want to try again! The farm itself is beautiful with tall grasses and wild flowers on one side and woods across the river. We would love to stay at Davidson’s farm again.

Another great trip to Riverwood! Beautiful spot on the river and great views of the night sky. My dog had the time of her life but be aware the ticks are out so be prepared. The hosts are friendly and helpful and give you as much privacy as you would like.
