From the flat land at the bottom to the top of the mountain, this is a place where you can find a spot to sit and think, draw, paint, nap, or identify over 30 medicinal plants in their natural habitats (absolutely NO harvesting of medicinals or wildflowers!). Listen to the many birds, spot the wildflowers. Some areas are accessible by wheelchair, while others are not, but all areas offer something to sustain your spirit. If you feel the need to explore the area, you are within walking distance of NotaViva Farm Brewery and Winery, 15 dirt road minutes from the new Sweet Run State Park one direction and Breaux Vineyard in the other direction. The Appalachian Trail is just over the top of the mountain and Harpers Ferry National Park is down the road and over the Shenandoah River. We might be a teeny bit biased, but we think this is area of northwest Loudoun County, VA is one of the loveliest places in the world.

On the Flats is easily accessible by foot or wheelchair (short trails but not paved) and there you can choose where to put your tent. There is one parking place so you will be packing in and out to the site you choose. PLAN to be onsite well before dark so you can choose your site and set up your tent. Some areas are mowed (weather permitting) and others have long grasses to help sustain the critters who call this home. We hope you will enjoy our bit of wilderness.

Purcells Knob, a Peak Experience

This was a great spot to stop and camp for the night. The only recommendation I’d have is to put a more clear “sign” up. We arrived a little late so it was difficult to see the box that was mentioned and we never saw a sign, just a post. Other than that the Dee was great! Easy to communicate with and responded very quickly.

Dee was so kind and her land was the perfect place to spend a fall night. Enjoyed bluegrass at the winery across the street in the evening, and awoke the next morning to a beautiful sunrise and deer grazing right outside the car. You can tell the area is rich with wildlife. Well worth the trip and $. :) Thanks Dee!

Felt Like I Had the Place to Myself

I loved tent camping on Dee's land. Dee warmly met me upon arrival. The area was secluded and I felt like I had to whole place to myself. The location was less than 10 minutes from Sweet Run State Park which I had plans to explore. There was also a brewery/winery right up the road that I didn't get the chance to try, but definitely a bonus to this spot!

The property owner was very nice and accommodating, the place to park was level and mowed, very pretty / isolated woods setting / quiet and peaceful. Entry driveway has some low hanging vines and branches - as low as 7-8 feet. My STO Beast is over 10 feet tall, so there was some slow going to push past. Normal cars should be fine. I was comfortable with my van (based on 19 foot Sprinter), however, I would not have been comfortable driving my previous Class C in there (Winnebago View) - not enough room and the roads are a little rough / narrow for that. Stay was great and just what I was looking for.

This was a perfect campsite for us - quiet and private and among the trees. It was a short walk to a local brewery which we enjoyed. Definitely recommend.

Purcells Knob, a Peak Experience
Camping on Dee’s land was fantastic! We were able to set up camp in the woods anywhere within her property lines, and the hike from the parking area to the peak only took a couple minutes. She provided us with a jug of water and a grill, and took the time to meet us at the site to tell us about her land and get to know us a little. Our stay was really peaceful and we’ll definitely be back in the future :)

It’s really quiet and peaceful out here. In the middle of nowhere but also nearby a city. Dee D is super nice, laid back and friendly. She only does one camper at a time so you basically have the lower half of her property to yourself for the night. Would stay here again !
