Chattooga Belle Farm – They Built It! By Tracy McCoy I wonder if when standing on the sprawling in upstate South Carolina, just a short hour trip from Greenville, Ed and Kitty Land heard a small still voice say, “if you build it, they will come.” While there isn't a baseball field on the property, that's about all that is lacking. Chattooga Belle Farm began as an event building set on acres with a small seasonal retail store. Soon people found their way to the soon-to-be full-fledged farm and they felt it; that feeling that you've found a very special place. Peaceful, majestic and unlike any other, Chattooga Belle Farm is quite possibly the perfect place for any event and most certainly an ideal place to pledge your heart and life to another. Since the Lands opened their doors in 2010 they have come. There have been families, couples, groups, the media and fruit pickers who have all visited the farm; and they return year after year. Having been written up countless times across the southeast, US and more recently featured on The Today Show, the farm just keeps growing and getting better. With a history of growing sweet juicy apples, the soil in this part of the world has proven to be excellent for peaches, muscadines, scuppernongs, and blueberries. The farm also grows exotic fruits like persimmons, paw paws, Asian pears, figs, and more! The landscape is picturesque and the mountain views are truly breathtaking in every direction. The farm hosts farm to table dinners that sell out year after year. Their U-Pick fruit opportunities evolve throughout the season with something always coming in from early summer through fall. A list of available fruit is updated often on their website, upcoming events and information about cabin rentals on Horseshoe Lake. The recent addition of a distillery on the farm means the fruit is grown, fermented, distilled and bottled on the farm. The distillery is open year round Monday – Saturday. ged in oak barrels and aged to produce some of the finest liquors made in these mountains. The farm store is complete with fresh produce (in season), canned jams, jellies and bottled ciders. Grass-fed, natural, antibiotic-free Black Angus beef is sold in the store. The cattle are raised on pasture which produces some of the healthiest beef you can buy. Using only natural, humane and environmentally sustainable practices, the Lands and their staff raise beef as nature intended. Bringing the best to your family has never been easier. Belle's Bistro at Chattooga Belle Farm serves salads, sandwiches, burgers and soups made with the freshest ingredients possible. The bistro is open for lunch Tuesday – Sunday from April – October. Their menu includes Certified South Carolina Grown food which makes for an outstanding menu, also which can be viewed on chattoogabellefarm.com. When it comes to weddings, Chattooga Belle Farm has it all! With all-inclusive packages that offer rental items, catering, a wedding coordinator, photographer, flowers, music, bar service and even the wedding cake. The couple can customize a package or choose from their Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum packages. Chattooga Belle Farm is a 200 acre u-pick fruit farm growing over 20 types of fruit and boasts a stunning 270-degree of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With a 22 acre lake with some pasture beside it, there is ample room to set up camp either in the open, under a tree, or in the woods. There are not assigned spots.  A short walk to a well-house for potable water, may provide opportunity to gaze at the grass-fed, Black Angus cattle grazing nearby. There is an 18-hole disc golf course that trails through the property, so you may be able to play or meet a passerby who is playing. A little bit longer walk will bring you to Chattooga Belle Farm Distillery where we make Brandies, Whiskies, a Vodka, a Gin and Muscashine made with the fruits of our labor. And, a little bit further walk up to the main event barn will have a farm store that is open 7 days a week, April through October and a Bistro which serves lunch from 11-2 every day except Monday & Tuesday.  (Hours may change due to seasonality.  When you book, you will receive instructions and hours.)

For primitive camping. I like the proximity to the small scenic lake and riding bikes at Stumphouse trail system. The so called composting toilet does not have a vent (or a light). That’s pretty rough. I assumed that since it was a small privately owned place, kind of classy, that the quiet hours would be honored and enforced. They were not. Our party lost most sleep on the first night due to a fraternity, raising hell and hollering like a bunch of drunks. I asked for and received a refund for that first night and they were mostly quiet the next night, after being spoken to by the management.

We have camped here the last 3 Novembers and it is always a great, relaxing time. From the super friendly, laid back, informative workers at the distillery, to the very sweet store workers, the workers here are amazing! Very open to the public, including being able to pet the cows and horses and feed them apples. We camp down by the lake, set up a bonfire and tent and enjoy nature. Lots of yummy wine and pickled fruits and veggies to buy from the store.

We had an WONDERFUL stay at Chatooga Belle Farms! The views are stunning and the grounds are clean and well maintained. We arrived late in the afternoon but still had time to stop by the distillery for a tasting and drinks to take to our campsite. The staff are hands-down AMAZING and went above and beyond. We were able to build a little fire at our site and found a semi-private location to pitch our tent. Before we left the next day, we shopped around the Farm Store and got some homemade jams and sweet treats and I was able to pick my own muscadines and Scuppernongs. We will definitely be back!

The campground was beautiful and quaint. The outhouse was very clean, but take light with you. We arrived at night. I’d suggest arriving in the daylight so that you can pick what type of area appeals to you. We were very pleased and highly recommend. Cheers!

We loved this site! Lots of privacy and it's within stumbling distance of the distillery. The deck is in great shape as well as the furniture. There's a pasture at the top of the hill with cows, horses, and llamas!?! The llamas were cool. It got super dark at night so we had a great view of the stars. The shared outhouse is an outhouse so that may be a drawback for some. Our car wouldn't start in the morning so we called customer service and they sent a resident from one of the homes at the top of the hill to jump us off. Thanks Joe! You're the best. Overall a great experience for us. Would visit again

The campsites were choose your own upon arrival. There are lakeside and wooded areas to choose from. The property is beautiful and offers great food, drinks, and plenty of room to explore. Walks through the vineyard and orchards were great and the views were amazing!

We really enjoyed the distillery and the hospitality there. However, the campsites are not ready for use yet. Ours was right next to the pump house andhad a water pump in the middle of the site making it more difficult to navigate a very small site. It was also very muddy/mucky. No access to bathrooms except a one hole outhouse about a fourth of a mile away. No dump station. all of this was mentioned in their write up, which I should’ve paid closer attention to. This is a relatively new set up for them and I believe it has great potential once it is better developed.

This was the ideal camping location for us! Plenty of room for us to spread out. Gorgeous scenery, animals, and infrastructure. The out house was clean, the instructions were clear, and everyone was super friendly! We will absolutely be back.

Overall we had a great experience! The quiet area and views were great. Our kids loved wandering through the property and seeing the cows/llamas. The grass outside of our RV site needed a cut and was quite tall. Other than that our only other complaint is that the standard power outlet did not work.

Was a beautiful property. The weekend we went was pretty crowded but we were able to still find a peaceful spot. Except for when multiple families thought it was fine to walk through our campsite repeatedly. That was a first for me haha. Overall though it was a great stay. I’d go back!

My family and I had such a wonderful time camping again this year at Chattooga Belle Farm Lakeside. The views of the lake, sunrise and sunsets are magical. The kids enjoyed swimming, feeding the cows, apple picking, playing chess at the distillery, and just spending so much time outdoors. Thank you again for another wonderful stay. We look forward to next time!!

The place was amazing. It’s hard for the pictures to capture how beautiful it all is. We ate at the Bistro, enjoyed the distillery, and picked lots of fruit to bring home with us. The people are what made this place so special, though. Just authentic, kind human beings. I went with my partner and 2 young kids, and am going to finish writing this review and book another camping spot to come back with a friend!

Overall, we really enjoyed the location. Our kids loved the water and that our campsite area was big enough for our large group. A couple of the downsides though were that people camped so close together down by the pond that we were almost walking through their campsites. Also, the outhouse is a super smelly hole in the ground. It was pretty miserable to use because the smell was overwhelming at the entrance. A serviced port-a-potty would have been much better.

We camp frequently from disbursed camping to campgrounds and this game was definitely a unique and excellent experience. We found a private spot right in the lake coved by trees, with a fire ring and just perfect. The farm was a beautiful setting and the morning views with the steam coming off the water was incredible. I would highly recommend camping here.

The tent site was in.a great location on a small lake on the farm. Close to the water’s edge and great view of the water and very private location. This is a “roughing it” setup with no electricity or potable water at the site. There is an outhouse that is available but it is a good walk from this specific camp site. The covered tent platform is quite roomy and there are 2 adirondack chairs with a small table along with a small dining table and 2 other chairs on the platform as well. We camped the middle of August and humidity was quite high during the night making sleeping through the night difficult. Will have to come back in the fall or late spring to be able to enjoy the area.

Relaxing Sunday at the farm

Booked the Lakeside deck for an overnight to relax by the lake & farm. Nice setup with 2 Adirondack chairs w/ matching little table/ foot rest, a few built in “counters” & small dining table w/ 2 chairs overlooking a peaceful lake. I brought a tent but didn’t bother setting it up- just blew up the air mattress & slept under the tin roof. Stayed dry while it rained! There’s a dock close by w/ a ladder to get in the water. I tied my float to it & kicked back. My dog & I roamed the property- saw cows, Llamas & a beautiful sunset on an overlook deck up by the main store/ bistro. Very close to some great waterfall hikes - Brasstown Falls, Opossum Creek Falls, Long Creek falls etc plus the Chattooga River.

We went to enjoy the quiet of the lake and the beauty of the vineyard and orchard on the grounds! It was quite romantic and even though the weather was rough we still had an amazing weekend. For 15 dollars you can do the full tour of drinks at the distillery twelve different liquors all made on site! Ben and Eric (don’t hold me on Eric lol) but Ben was amazing he had great customer service! But if you are looking for a quiet romantic setting for camping this is definitely worth the price!

What a wonderful place to unwind and take in the beautiful views. This is such a tranquil property, and the view of the lake is picture perfect. Great fishing and so close to the Winery and Distillery, Chatooga River, Brasstown Falls, and nearby restaurants. Can’t wait to come back again!

Chattooga Belle Farm is a truly beautiful and memorable destination. The grounds are impeccably maintained and offer stunning views, creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive throughout my visit. I recommend downloading offline maps in advance, as cell service in the area was quite limited. Since I visited in mid-July, the weather was humid and there were some bugs, but the overall experience was still excellent. The distillery on site was impressive, and Erik, the grounds concierge, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the property. His insights and enthusiasm made the visit even more enjoyable and convinced me that I will definitely return in the future. I’m already looking forward to coming back to fish for trout and explore more of what Chattooga Belle Farm has to offer!

We absolutely loved the lakeside deck to entertain our group and just to gather together to enjoy the views “in luxury”. We highly recommend booking the deck, no issues at all! We will just book for two nights instead of one 😊 to fully enjoy all of what Long Creek / Chattooga Belle Farm has to offer!

We stayed over the 4th of July and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on the property. While we spent the bulk of our time floating in the lake, we did venture up to watch the fireworks above the vineyard, and also to buy some gifts at the distillery. There was plenty of room for all of the campers to maintain a little bit of distance from each other, but still feel neighborly. The one thing I might mention, however, is that on a main road back behind the lake, you can hear a lot of traffic. It doesn’t detract from the beauty of being out in nature, just a word to the wise. We look forward to coming back again sometime!
