Waldhaus Resort is a special place surrounded by the Pisgah National Forrest. Pure nature close to a thriving metropolitan area. We offer the Sawmill and the Summit! I have been an engineer, corporate executive and world traveler all my life. Born and raised in Switzerland I speak German, French, English and a little Spanish. My passion is the outdoors, hunting, fishing and cooking . My other calling is to entertain people which share the same passions. That’s why I created the Waldhaus resort. During the past years, the Sawmill has become my favorite place to spend quality time in what I call "Cabin Living" which I love so much. Nearly every day there is a small challenge, nothing comes easy, but all the coziness and comfort is there.  The water is supplied by a spring above the mill. Electricity is generated by solar technology and a generator. All refrigeration and cooking appliances are propane; and so is the basic heat (propane again) - and a very old Jotul wood stove will do the rest. I sleep a lot on the day bed in the living room so the Sawmill can be comfortably rented for up to 4 guests. The outhouse is a thing of the past, just recently I installed a compositing toilet besides the bedroom. We also offer The Summit which is a high elevation, 2-story cabin surrounded by national forest which has evolved into an off-grid living and play space located at nearly 3300 feet elevation on a 1/2 acre flat with an incredible view. There are very private old forest service trails leading directly into the Pisgah National Forest.

Amazing off-grid cabin.
AMAZING spot. There is a cooler and a good kitchen, and Hans brought up all our stuff. The hill is steep but short. Cell service is good at the top, but absent in the valley. The snowball peak hike is a lovely one! Hans is very kind. Incredible place.

Exceeded our Expectations
My friends and I had an amazing stay at The Wauldhaus! Hans, was incredibly helpful and friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The cabin had everything we needed and was very cozy, even on cold nights. I particularly loved the upper porch with its spectacular views. The nearby hike along the river was dreamy and refreshing, with stunning scenery and plenty of spots to stop and take in the beauty. While the climb up to the cabin was difficult, it was definitely manageable, and I found that trekking/hiking poles really helped. Overall, I would absolutely recommend staying at The Wauldhaus to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in nature. We're already planning to book another trip later this year!

Just what we needed
It was a beautiful spot with hiking trails and a creek. The hike up yo the cabin can be tough especially when you do it multiple times in one day after hiking. It was totally worth it to spend time in the beautiful comfortable cabin.

"The Sawmill"
The Sawmill is a cozy Cabin right off of Mineral creek, you could hear it running all the time. Great as a white noise or for those who appreciate the sound of running water. The cabin is well-built and insulated well, and we enjoyed our neighbors, Annie and Elwood (who are very friendly)!

Hans’ cabin was magical. It was the perfect getaway for me and my husband and the trails surrounding the cabin made it so that you never have to leave the land if you don’t want to, but if you do- Asheville is only 30 min away. Such an incredible weekend.

Remote Getaway
What a wonderful hidden gem! Hans has such a fantastic piece of land and so generously shares it to anyone looking for a remote getaway. This was the perfect staycation for me and my pup who needed a break from the city! The cabin is nestled in the woods to where it’s private and isolated, but Hans is at the bottom of the mountain if you needed him. He is a fantastic, thoughtful host and provided everything you could think of. Very quick to respond if you need him to come up to the cabin for whatever reason! The cabin is beautifully hand-crafted so it’s very primitive. Water is supplied by rainfall collection, the toilet is compost, and camp stove/heaters are propane fueled. If you’re looking for an “off the grid,” peaceful escape, but find comfort in knowing you aren’t entirely alone stranded in the middle of the forest… this is the cabin for you! I certainly will be returning in the future. :) Helpful things to pack: - extra blanket/comforter (bedding is provided but it got very chilly). - lantern/flashlights (it’s very dark at night!! There’s only 1 very dim light inside the cabin; no light upstairs where the bedroom is). - gallons of drinking water (you can’t drink the rain water). - hiking poles if you have them, that climb to the cabin is VERY steep! Everything else you could think of, Hans generously provided/stocked. :)

Little piece of heaven
LOVED this spot, this host, this cabin, this experience. Sufficiently remote, sparkling clean, rustic feel w the luxury of hot water. We loved letting our pup race around. The beautiful artwork and antique furniture delivered unexpected charm. Hans is so fun to talk to and his willingness to take bags up to the cabin was so helpful. Other tips for what to pack: boots for the climb to the cabin Hiking poles if you have them A few portable lanterns for even more light Long stick matches Extra water Indoor slippers An extra blanket A course grind for Hans’s percolator

Off grid primitive cabin!
Great stay ! Hans was very accommodating and made sure we had everything. He walked us through everything ie: composting toilet, on demand hot water and need for short use of water since it's limited(collected from rain). The cabin was great! Bring everything you need (charger cables, flashlights etc. don't forget anything because it's a hard hike back up if you aren't a hiker!) He will help you take your stuff to the cabin on his 4 wheeler. Me and my wife are physically fit and found the climb up to the top considerably tough and VERY steep. You will want good hiking boots and to be prepared for that trek up. It was 8 minutes for us to get to the top which is very steep! might take others 15-20. Pots, pans, cookware, grills, firewood, axe, saw all provided. A LifeStraw and bag for filtering the collected rain water is supplied. There was a grate over the fire for cooking. We couldn't think of anything else we needed during our stay. The upstairs is separate from the lower room. You access it from the outside. No bathroom up there but it's still very nice. This is a primitive cabin, so if that's what want - this is it!

Super cute camper by a beautiful mountain stream! My friend even caught some trout while we were here. Tons of stars, close by to Asheville, hiking trails, and comes with two very cute, very friendly cats who will visit you throughout your stay. Truly enjoyed this spot!

Beautiful views & hiking
The summit cabin was the perfect getaway stay! Hans has the place stocked with everything you need for a camping trip. The views were incredible and there was plenty of things to explore around the cabin and the property. We were able to take a dip in the creek during our stay and it was incredible. Would highly recommend this cabin to anyone, & Hans was very hospitable! Can’t wait for our next stay.

Great trip. Loved the isolation of the location. Never heard anyone else or their vehicles. I fully recommend this site. *Note: the 15 minute hike in is steep but does not last too long. Hans took all our stuff up, so it was not bad.

Great adventure within the remote mountains of NC! The cabin was/is very well constructed, extremely clean and very comfortable. You are definitely in the elements but the cabin does a fantastic job at keeping you enclosed and away from the bugs, etc. The climb up is not that long but it is most definitely steep, and yes, you will need hiking boots because if it rains you will need a good grip. I am happy that I followed this guidance because it did rain during out stay and while I think i would have made it with sneakers, i also think the possibilities of getting injured would have been pretty high. With hiking shoes or a pair with good solid grip, no problem! We took our dog and had a blast! We had a personal unexpected and unfortunate circumstance come up and so we had to cut our trip short. We are beyond thankful for the host who came and met us, very last minute, to help us bring our belongings down. We didn't get to stay the extra night, but we will be back!

I loved camping on Han’s property. There’s another property nearby but wasn’t too close to hear any noise. The RV is right near a babbling creek which was nice. At night, there is no light pollution, so as long as there are no clouds in the sky, you can see all the stars. Tons of lighting bugs in the woods!

6 days at the summit cabin w/a pup!
This was such an amazing stay! Hans has an off the grid cabin up at the top of a steep climb. Totally private, great views, perfect for our dog to explore off leash - amazing. The place has hot water, composting toilet, a shower, and a solar powered battery for charging small electronics. Gas grill and gas stove, huge cooler with a bag of Ice Kept our stuff cold for 4 days. We stayed upstairs. The bed was plenty comfy -we did bring our own comforter which was a good move for 2 chilly nights. We also brought an additional 3 gallons of drinking water which was necessary for our longer stay. We couldn’t recommend this place more!!! If you enjoy long hikes there is a way to get to the cabin from the mountain to sea trail on the snowball trail - it’s not super well marked but if you are okay doing a little of your own trail finding highly recommend.
