The best pets off leash campsites near Saundersfoot

·

Often mentioned in the same breath as Tenby, its bigger seaside resort cousin just along the southern Pembrokeshire Coast National Park shoreline, Saundersfoot has a more laid-back vibe. It has a generous sandy beach and all the expected small resort trappings (decent eats, amusements, kitschy seaside shops, and more). Excellent walking can be found along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, both to Amroth and Tenby. The most convenient Saundersfoot campsites are up to a mile west and southwest of the centre, away from the coast, although some spectacularly poised campsites sit near the coast path above tempestuous Monkstone Beach.

Off the beaten track on top of the Mendips in an area of outstanding natural beauty. A mixture of four acres of wild woodland, orchard and field set on a hillside. Our Yurt is set up in the trees giving you peaceful seclusion and a clear view across the sea to Wales and the mountains of the Brecon Beacons. A huge range of activities are possible or you can lie in the hammock with a good book. We have very friendly dogs and rescue chickens who may come and visit. Wild deer wander past in the early morning mist and the odd buzzard picks an argument with a bunch of crows but nothing much else should disturb you. We moved here after an 18 month search 8 years ago. It was close to everything we wanted and we've spent some time getting a bit closer.

Offas Dyke Retreat

4. Offas Dyke Retreat

122km from Saundersfoot · 11 units · Glamping
A holiday taking in two countries – a tad ambitious? Not in the slightest. Take off to Offa’s Dyke Retreat and such escapades are very easy indeed, as you’re almost on the border of England and Wales, with plenty of gorgeous scenery and outdoorsy antics on both sides of the divide. Site is set in 3 acres with new 2023 communal space, including games room sofa snug, dinning area, new wet rooms and kitchen to be complete December 2023. You can start gazing at that scenery without even leaving this friendly glamping site in the little village of Longtown, for the outlook here is one of the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park. Ready for a closer look? Get those boots on and set off for a wander. The Offa’s Dyke path passes nearby on its way from Pandy to Hay-on-Wye, and there are lots of little local paths to explore too. A stroll of a much less strenuous variety (barely a 7 minute, in fact) takes you to the local pub for home-cooked meals, local ales. If you can manage a little further (a 6 minutes walk), you can get to a fab village shop stacked with fresh and frozen food, local tipples and homemade cakes. Stock up there and trot back to the site for a picnic or barbecue (firepit provided, with firewood available to buy on site), or use the well-equipped communal kitchen to prep your eats. 5 ensuite railway carriages with kitchenette, 2 pods and 3 further carriages use shared facilities on site include a toilet block with a couple of showers; no need to bring your own towels, as you’ll be provided with these when you get here, along with bedding for your cosy sleeping quarters.

**Now closed except for walkers and 4x4s due to access. Contact directly with Qs and before making a booking - thanks!** Nestled on the hilltops near Bucks Mills and Clovelly, 10-15min walk by footpath from the SW coast path, our 13 acre smallholding-in-progress offers rustic nearly-wild camping in our wildflower meadows. Share your space with hares, deer, foxes, owls, songbirds, field voles, bees and butterflies. The views from the fields are a well kept local secret - from your tent or van look out over Hartland, Lundy island, Saunton, Croyde, Exmoor and Dartmoor, even Pembrokeshire on a clear day! FACILITIES: In keeping with our low impact approach, the fields are just fields, but with the addition of some picnic benches! A flushing toilet, drinking water, hot shower, charging and WiFi are found by the farmhouse. BBQs and fires permitted off the ground and we have fire pits for loan and logs for sale. Please pack out all rubbish and leave NO trace. Dogs welcome under close control - please avoid meadow centres in summer to protect the nesting skylarks and ensure they do NOT chase the wildlife. ACCESS: Easily accessible by 4WD, and 2WD in summer/when dry. Be aware it's a grassy uphill track, if your vehicle is not great off-road... (but everyone so far has been fine!) The views are worth the walk though! Campervans have backup options lower down near the house. THE SITE: Nature spot, relax and stargaze across our 4 fields. We recently planted 800 trees for a new woodland, created a wildlife pond, and are establishing a traditional cider orchard. Rose looks after our vegetable garden and usually has some native breed piglets. Our apiary is managed by Jon who will happily explain about bees... and sell you a jar of honey for breakfast. Note - the area is agricultural with very occasional farm noise and odour. We are pleased to be a South West Coast Path Waymaker, and welcome walkers. We also welcome anyone enjoying the Atlantic Highway or South West 660. We like classics and have spanners! Flexible arrival/departure. If we are not around just choose a spot and we'll find you later. We are both keen adventurers and happy to provide tips on things to do and places to visit! Where to go

South Pembrokeshire

This is the most popular part of the national park to visit. Fanning out beyond perfectly positioned resorts like Saundersfoot and Tenby, pulling in crowds keen to see the area’s beaches, South Pembrokeshire brings tranquillity to spots like the castle-flanked surfers’ favourite Manorbier, the seabird sanctuary of Elegug Rock Stacks, and vast Freshwater Bay. Manorbier and Freshwater East have quiet sites where you can pitch near gorgeous, wild beaches.

St Davids & Around

Referred to as a “thin” place by ancient Britons, where the gap between earth and heaven was supposedly small, the St Davids area remains a special, spiritual locale. Britain’s westernmost city, St Davids sits 33 miles northwest of Saundersfoot. The craggy grasslands around the city sport several scenic campsites near both modern conveniences and the shores of bizarre rock formations.

Carmarthenshire

Saundersfoot’s location in East Pembrokeshire means the far-less-visited county of Carmarthenshire is within easy reach. Huge sandy beaches, lush agricultural land, rambling rolling hills, and authentic insights into Welsh farming life define the region. Plenty of Carmarthenshire camping sits along the coast (between Pendine and Laugharne), but the most interesting camping within easy reach is in the hilly forests of Brechfa Forest, a mountain biking Mecca about 35 miles northeast of Saundersfoot.

When to go

Pembrokeshire’s main tourist season runs from Easter to the end of September, when most regional campsites shut down (though some caravan sites are open year-round). Weather can be wet at any time, but April, May and September often yield the year’s sunniest, driest weather. SaundersFEST, a July live music extravaganza, is also a great time to visit.
