Our three, brand new wood and canvas yurts are nestled in our private, woodland hotel garden beside the beautiful conservation (SSSI) river of Scandal Beck. Just a short drive from The Lake District, The Yorkshire and Durham Dales as well as The Scottish Border, we are perfectly located for you to explore.
The yurts themselves are individually decorated with full size furniture, electricity and double beds. The yurts are all located in the garden of The Black Swan Hotel, Ravenstonedale, a multi award-winning hotel, restaurant and bar; recipient of 2 AA Rosettes as well as AA pub of the year for England 2018/19. As part of your stay in our yurts you will receive a full cooked breakfast and buffet option included in the price for 2 people in our hotel restaurant. We like to think of ourselves as a cosy home from home with a relaxed dining atmosphere throughout. We are very dog friendly in the hotel, restaurant, bar and yurts so please bring your furry family members.
Our beautiful woodland is also home to red squirrels (which are seen daily), protected, freshwater crayfish in the river, an otter (seen very infrequently but the nemesis of our ducks), 6 Indian runner ducks, free range chickens and our two cockerels! (Dogs are very welcome but are to be kept on a lead whilst in the woodland itself).
We are very dog friendly and charge an additional fee of £15 for 1 dog/ £20 for 2 dogs for an additional cleaning fee and for some dog friendly goodies such as poop bags and treats. The price of this yurt is based on an occupancy of 2 people. Any other people who will be staying on the sofa bed will add a charge of £40 per person per night for breakfast and their stay.
All yurts come with electrical battery pack, chargeable lanterns, tea/coffee, homemade biscuits, log burning stoves, towels, full breakfast included from the hotel, an outdoor seating area and access to our outdoor toasty warm woodland shower as well as our very cute, wooden toilet cabin. Hairdryers are available in the hotel for your use.

They are both set in their own private gardens next to Colwyn river, surrounded by trees with views of Moel Hebog and Snowdon mountains. There are acres of forest to walk through on the doorstep.

Oak Lodge is an exclusive Luxury Glamping Lodge set on a beautiful, sheltered Mid Wales hillside and close to amenities. At the moment there is just the one quirky lodge set in 3 acres of meadow, looking out over the hills and woodland. There is more land to explore (total 11 acres) and the views are far reaching. This unique accommodation isn't available anywhere else in Wales.
Oak Lodge is mains connected for electricity, with a top of the range waterless toilet and eco friendly Bio Fuel Burner (Like a log burner but without the hassle). The hills and trees will be your morning view as you open the curtains looking out across the green expanse that surrounds this Mid Wales getaway. You are surrounded by green space, meadows left for wild flowers with paths cut through them and of course the many Oak Trees, some of which are over 400 years old.
As there is only one lodge, you will have privacy and this offers the perfect location for a romantic luxury break for a couple. Alternatively, kids will love exploring the areas and discover the very shallow stream to splash in (it dries up fully in Summer). There is so much space to enjoy. After a 3-4 minute, 300 metre walk from the car park (some up a hillside path), kick off your boots in the covered porch outside and head into your own quirky lodge.
In the lodge there is one separate bedroom with a King Size bed, a shower room with toilet, sink, a kitchenette (mini kitchen) with microwave oven, air fryer, fridge/freezer and the spacious, quirky main room with a large sofa (converts to a 115cm wide bed for kids) to unwind in. Cast Iron outdoor stove, in/outdoor tables and shower room.
A private wood-fired hot tub with bubbles, which is deep and specially designed for two - the perfect addition to a romantic stay. Relax in warm water under the stars or start the day listening to the birdsong.
Mid-Wales is a spectacular location and we are just 4 minutes drive away from the small town of Llanfair Caereinion (2nd smallest town in Wales). Usual convenience shops (Spa/Londis), petrol station, excellent butchers (Pandy's), hairdressers, 3 pubs, Chinese takeaway and Fish and Chip shop.

I loved the Boy John. There was so much attention to detail in everything on board. Very comfortable bed and plenty of lighting. Also clear instructions around the site, regarding water, showers, toilets etc. All facilities very clean. Nothing compares to having your own little bit of coastline !!

Initially I wasn’t sure taking the lantern to do your (compost) toilet trip of 1.5 minutes but it worked as long as your mind doesn’t run wild in the dark when you’re on your own! But it all adds up to the whole experience of glamping without running water and electricity in the yurt. I loved the hot shower outside (I also used it to wash my hands after using the toilet), the sound of the stream, the hares who were very elusive, the log burner and the pub breakfast (included in the booking) and the pub food. I had to leave very early, it was still pitch black and I looked at the sky, it was magical with the stars and I even thought I could see 1-2 galaxies; I’m probably exaggerating but it was that clear without the light pollution. I loved the whole experience! Thank you!

The site is in a fantastic location, the boat had everything we needed, the site facilities were very good, the woodburner was wonderful, we loved seeing occasional trains go past, our reactive rescue dog loved having the beach areaa to himself. A problem was sorted out within half an hour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on The Hannah! The location is absolutely stunning and the boat stay was a brilliant change from our usual tent camping. After a few bumped heads from the lower cabin inside, we quickly got used to life aboard. The boat is well equipped with plenty of your basics and some thoughtful additions (including a cool looking radio/CD player). Sophie was a brilliant host and very quickly sorted out a query for us (thank you!!!). Pretty much all of our time, though, was spent outside soaking up the stunning views, watching the birdlife (including one the local Ospreys!) and cooking on the firepit. In the evenings we regularly heard a Nightjar and Tawny Owls, it really was wonderful. The information pack emailed to us recommended a train trip from nearby Penhelig station to Barmouth on the Cambrian Coast Line. We did this and would recommend this too! Beautiful journey with gorgeous views on either side. If you’re looking for a break away from the usual, it’s definitely well worth a stay at Smuggler’s Cove.

This was absolutely right up our street - quirky, amazing views, relaxedn with a great ambience from the record player (cant beat a bit of Matt Monro!). HIghly recommend as an unusual stay away from it all. Our dog loved it as well.

Beautiful area and wonderful walks on the farm. Nice hosts too. Unfortunately, the sleeping accommodation in our fixed caravan was much smaller than appeared in the pictures and was not comfortable or practical.

Weekend Trip to Cae Nant Glamping
Fantastic stay with lovely personalised attention and details. Great quiet tucked away spot and perfect for getting out and about... we had outside hot tub baths on both nights, made pizza on the terrace one evening, and enjoyed movie nights in front of the wood burner (with our nephew with special needs). We were out for pony trekking on the Sunday morning (30 mins away) and then Sunday lunch overlooking Lake Vyrnwy (10 mins away). Lovely cooked breakfast supplies and generally fabulous hosting. Highly recommended.

Aberdyfi & Around
South of Tywyn a photogenic sweep of sandy beach hems the shoreline around to the southernmost point of Snowdonia National Park, Aberdyfi. This balmy beach village has Snowdonia’s foothills looming above it and excellent walking, cycling and wild swimming along the coast and the River Dyfi’s wide mouth. Hidden-away Nyth Robin three miles east of Aberdyfi offers glamping in bell tents, a yurt, a horsebox and the like—plus regular caravan pitches.
Dysynni Valley
Running from the edge of Tywyn northeast towards the region’s main peak, dominant Cadair Idris, behind it is Dysynni Valley (Dyffryn Dysynni). The picturesque riverside road from the village of Bryncrug, 2.5 miles from Tywyn, is the most idyllic part of the valley for campers: pitch at small farm sites like Fferm Cedris Farm Campsite. There is a beautiful back route from the valley head up onto Cadair Idris.
Cadair Idris
Cadair Idris, Southern Snowdonia’s highest peak, rears east of Tywyn in a flurry of grassy moorland, rocky outcrops and lonesome tarns, and should be on any outdoor-lover’s radar for its superb hiking and wild swimming. The B4405 road climbs up the southeast side of the mountain from Tywyn to Minffordd, where one of the key trails to the summit begins—here, pitch at basic but well-positioned farm campsites nearby.
When to go
All months can be wet months up in North Wales and Tywyn can often get the worst of both coastal and mountain weather: you’re certainly going to see severe weather changes alternating between coast and mountains hereabouts. Maximum average temperatures for the year hover around the 20°C mark in July. April’s Machynlleth Comedy Festival and September’s Barmouth Walking Festival are some of the area’s annual events worth planning a stay around.
