Our stay at Over the Moon was absolutely perfect. Ruth was super friendly and gave clear instructions on how to find them, and replied quickly to any questions. Weekend Trip to Abberton Shepherds Hut
This was a fabulous shepherds hut with every need catered for. The craftsmanship is beautiful and all the equipment and amenities were first class. Beautifully decorated and all the local and interesting information was carefully provided in an easy to access folder. The location is absolutely stunning with lots of outdoor equipment such as seating and bbq and a pizza oven to enjoy in the hot weather. The view is stunning and the surrounding countryside has great walks and places of interest. We will hopefully return.

We booked a weekend stay with our daughter and it was lovely, very peaceful and calm. She loved feeding the pigs! The hot tub stays hot for a long time once you’ve got it going so worth firing it up nice abs early. The site owners were always around and really helpful too.

Have already recommended this place to friends. We had a lovely stay in the sunshine. The hut is has everything you need in a compact but unsquashy space. Enjoyed some fine walks and a super day out in Ruthin. We'd also recommend the Red Lion for a visit. Ruth & Jude were both very helpful and welcoming. I'm sure we'll come back.

I had a wonderful stay in this charming shepherd’s hut nestled in a peaceful meadow. The hut was beautifully equipped with everything I needed for a comfortable and cozy getaway. Catriona’s shepherds hut is a truly brilliant glamping find!
I took my six year old daughter for a two-night stay and we loved it. The hut is so cleverly designed, with everything you need. It was warm and cosy, and the beds were so comfortable.
The enclosed garden is great for children, and the visits from beautiful Evie the collie dog were a highlight. We ordered a breakfast hamper too which was excellent.
We did a couple of day trips - Eastnor Castle and Warwick Castle. Both very good spots with lots going on for children.
My daughter and I loved our adventure - we even had a visit from the tooth fairy while we there! :-)

We loved our stay at Over the Moon. Location was perfect, bed was extremely comfy and the hut was very cosy with everything you'd need. We loved the chickens mooching around and hearing the sheep and baby lambs. Such a peaceful and beautiful location. Thanks to Ruth & Jude and the animals ☺️

Over The Moon is a charming shepherd’s hut, and it was an absolute delight to stay there. The accommodation is thoughtfully designed and beautifully finished to a high standard. It was also super cosy and warm. The peaceful setting made it the perfect place to unwind and recharge. Waking up to the sounds of nature and enjoying the tranquil surroundings was just what I needed. I would highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for a relaxing and restorative getaway.

Cardigan Bay
Wales’ biggest bay, spanning from North Pembrokeshire to Gwynedd along the Ceredigion coast, was where Wales camping really took off—and Aberystwyth is perfectly positioned for a closer look at the Ceredigion region’s share of the shoreline. Along this beguiling seaboard, mainly made up of peaceful beaches and lonesome coves, there are a greater density of campgrounds and caravan parks than anywhere else in the country. You’ll find big affairs with myriad facilities and farm sites with a few tent spaces.
Cambrian Mountains
Rugged hills rise up east of Aberystwyth and, although never surpassing 2,475 feet, these are mighty wild places. So wild, in fact, that the region is known as the “Desert of Wales”—and not because of the weather! Britain’s remotest land south of the Scottish Highlands is easily accessed from Aberystwyth, with the bunch of campsites around the Devil’s Bridge beauty spot a good place to begin your explorations.
Snowdonia National Park
Kicking off just 20 miles north of Aberystwyth is Snowdonia, a smorgasbord of jagged mountain peaks, expansive forests, emerald-green valleys, and sandy coastline that comprise one of the UK’s most popular national parks. Aberystwyth makes a good base for a foray into Snowdonia’s southern flanks, but within the park boundaries are no shortage of pitch-up places, such as those on the southern and northern slopes of Cadair Idris, Southern Snowdonia’s highest summit.
When to go
Aberystwyth is a student town, and even in winter’s depths you’ll find something going on, but late spring (before summer’s big groups of holidaymakers arrive) is a beautiful time to come both for seaside and hillwalking. August, meanwhile, oversees the big festivals, when the town is at its liveliest. Aberystwyth itself catches the brunt of any incoming weather systems—it’s a place for campers to take care when the winds get up.
