Or if you want to use a car to help get up higher the Clwydian and Berwyn Mountains and Eryri (Snowdon) National Park are all within a half an hour drive. If history and mooching is your thing we are just 5 miles from Ruthin - one of the oldest existing Tudor towns - boasting an historic gaol, a craft centre with regular exhibitions and a castle with a spa and peacocks. Denbigh with its stunning castle, Corwen, Llangollen, Llyn Tegid (Bala) and the North Wales Coast are easy to reach by car. There are also options for days out using public transport including taking a steam train. Please ask - they aren't all known to Google! The nearby village has a community run pub and shop with the Glan Llyn tafan offering food by local gastro company Sorbus. In fact there are loads of great little villages near by each with their own character and points of interest including great cafes, walks, Punjabi pub food, historic churches and sacred wells.

Our intimate wild camping site, complete with a unique horse box glamping retreat, offers a peaceful base for exploring. Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple, or with friends, you can book individual pitches or enjoy exclusive use of the whole site. An ideal location for exploring all that Snowdonia has to offer. Close to incredible beaches, mountains, Portmeirion and Zipworld. Or just stay put and enjoy the view! Ideal for individuals or small to medium size groups. There is a horse box that sleeps 2 on a high bed above the cab and has a kitchenette/dining space. There are 3 camp areas, one is quite large. All are less than 25 metres from the parking area. Basic facilities; a compost toilet and a tap. This is usually a self check in site and all sites need to be left clean and tidy for the next guests. This is a simple and unspoilt site that offers a tranquil setting, with sounds of nature and amazing views. There are many beautiful beaches and lakes close by, castles, steam trains, mountains, historic buildings and pilgrim churches, water sports, national cycle route and the coastal path. Within 20 minutes by car, bus or train are Harlech, Porthmadog, Tremadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog (zip world). Snowdon walk is half an hour’s drive away. Plenty to do! For local services, 2 miles away in different directions are two villages. Talsarnau has a pub and Penrhyndeudraeth has 2 small supermarkets, post office, several cafes, restaurants and takeaways, 2 pubs and a petrol station. Porthmadog is a few minutes further by car, bus or train and has extensive services and facilities. The property is accessed via a steep narrow lane, with passing places, about 1/2 mile from the A496 road. By public transport, there is a train station and a bus stop in Llandecwyn on the main road. National cycle route 8 passes our property gate. Llyn Tecwyn lake is a few minutes walk up the lane, with Llandecwyn church above that. A little further away are more lakes and reservoirs, the Rhinog mountains with Bryn Cader Faner and a temperate rain forest Coed Felinrhyd. All are lovely hikes from our property.

Coed Obry is a 5.5 acre private woodland on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. It has its own private gated access from the road and a 50m track leads from the A 4085 to a small car park for 5 vehicles. Paths lead from there to the caravan, bunkhouse, camping areas. There is a compost toilet block and sink (cold water tap) in the centre of the wood shared by all visitors. The notice board in the car park provides visitors with maps, photos and information about the wood, and there are laminated maps showing the routes of around 30 local walks which visitors are welcome to borrow during their stay. Canoe, kayaks and paddle boards are available to hire in Coed Obry and there are several fire pits with seasoned firewood for sale. There is no mains water so visitors are requested to bring their own drinking water, but rain water harvesting systems provide water for washing. Nearby there are several outstanding beaches within 1-3 miles and there is good access to the mountains of Snowdonia; the Afon Dwyryd provides an excellent sheltered river/estuary for canoeing and paddle boarding; the slate quarries and tourist attractions of Blaenau Ffestiniog, rock climbing at Tremadog (2 miles); spectacular waterfalls at Croesor (1 mile); the Ffestiniog Narrow Gauge Railway (0.5 miles); the Glaslyn Osprey Centre (1 mile); several shops, restaurants, hostelries and Spar shop in Penrhyndeudraeth (1 mile); three large supermarkets and a regional shopping centre in Porthmadog (2.5 miles).

Ty'r Felin is a truly magical place steeped in history that feels like stepping back in time 200 years, to a place where there is no electricity cables, telephone wires, TV aerials, tarmac or street lights. In this wild and beautiful place, Bob has created a small but beautifully made rustic eco-campsite, a place to come and camp traditional style or to glamp in comfort on the seashore with colourful washing facilities, hot showers and compost toilets. We offer you the opportunity to get away from everything on a site with no electricity or wi-fi, and to live differently, to tread lightly on this beautiful earth. We feel very strongly about using resources carefully, and ask guests to use water wisely and recycle everything recyclable. Here there is space to breathe, be free, run around and relax, and just a 5 minute walk down the track from the camping field is the rocky sea shore and a little cove where you can swim, paddle, crab or snorkle, kayak, fish, surf or paddle board. You do need to bring your own equipment. The seashore at Ty'r Felin is a great place for bird watching and looking out for dolphins. Brett from Top Cat Marine Safaris runs boat trips from the cove, to go fishing or wildlife watching. Just across the road is the National Trust house, garden and cafe at Plas yn Rhiw, and there are 2 other cafes within a mile, one nextdoor at Treheli and Caffi Top Cat 1 mile up the hill in Rhiw where Brett and Nia serve local seafood and delicious cakes. Porth y Swnt visitor centre in the cove village of Aberdaron is 3 miles away, Plas glyn y weddw art gallery and cafe in Llanbedrog is 8 miles, Abersoch is 9 miles, and Pwllheli and its supermarkets is 12 miles. There are lots of beaches and rocky cliffs in the area and a stunning coastal path. Honestly, can’t recommend this campsite enough. The views were absolutely stunning, the warm croissants and fresh coffee in the morning were delicious and all the facilities were absolutely fantastic. We had a bell tent so had lots of space and a lovely plot. Thank you for having us, will 100% be back!

It was a beautiful site! Frances & Nigel were lovely and communicative. Adorable little wagons to bring stuff from the car to the tent (for sites where the car isn't parked right on the site). Amazing space. We stayed in a roundhouse that had a birds nest in the roof. Everything about the place was great, the kids loved it, felt the most relaxed I've felt in months just walking around the site with my 13-year-old son. Cafe is amazing, just a shame it wasnt open all week. Will be returning.

What an lovely campsite! The hut is placed in the woods surrounded by old trees and is very peaceful. The space has everything you need but still has that camping feel to it. We had no signal so no choice but to embrace the off-grid nature! Communication and directions were great. Would 100% stay again and recommend.

The site was fantastic. Stunning location, walking distance of plenty of walks. All the different camping sections had plenty of space and Sarah was supper friendly and helpful. When we got back too late for the shop, Sarah left wood out for us so we could have a fire (paid the following day). Easy to check in and out. Our yurt was clean, spacious and all the essentials were provided. The midges were in force, but supplies available at the shop to keep them at bay.

Wonderfully peaceful place with so much birdsong. The roundhouse was the perfect temperature after a hot sunny day on the beach. Great place to explore from and the cafe was just perfect, serving delicious food from the farm. Shop with honesty box really useful for last minute meals at the campsite too. This is a nice site, well looked after. It was our second visit. The first time we camped, we came back this year specifically to stay in the cabin. It was cozy enough even with night temperatures below 10C and no heating. Very comfy bed (bedding supplied), comfy sofa, dining table. Outdoor furniture. Plenty of storage space. Includes outdoor cooking equipment, gas hob grill and fire pit. Compost loo. Well kept showers etc only a minute's walk away on the main site.

We had a lovely stay at Nant Bach retreat. John met us and showed us around. It was super peaceful with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. We had everything we needed to enjoy our stay and made use of the BBQ, courtyard and wood-fired hot tub which was amazing and watched the sunset from it. The woodburnimg stove was easy to use and keep in, it kept the barn lovely and warm.

Such a lovely place Megan and Benjamin have created! We loved the roundhouse, eating at the little table whilst seating on the floor. We liked it so much that we hardly went away. We used the oven to grill some burrito's and we made a bonfire outside to roast marshmellows and bake bread on a stick. We quickly got used to the compostable toilet.

Well appointed very dog friendly shepherd's hut, and we even survived Storm Dave in it! Hut is set in its own dog-secure orchard adjacent to the chicken run and a barn. Lovely views and sunrises over Clwydian hills. Good shower and cooking facilities. Very comfy bed. Portable heater and log burner. Eggs from the chickens next door are excellent. 10 min drive to town, great value huge dog zoomie field a minute away, plus lots of forest walks in the area. One of the best huts we've stayed in, and expect to return to!

Weekend Trip to Felin Uchaf Meadow Camping

This place is so unbelievably whimsical. we stayed in the roundhouse bunkhouse and it was just perfect - even through storm Dave. We woke up to the sounds of animals and the stream just outside our patio each morning and it couldn’t have been any better. The volunteers at Felin Uchaf are just amazing - they keep the place so clean and tidy and it is perfect for anyone to visit. The only thing I would add is we could’ve done with a heater/heated blanket etc as there was a storm when we was there - but that is our own problem for becoming unprepared. I will 100% be returning to this site.
