Weekend Trip to Pytingwyn Woods

What a gorgeous site - at one side a babbling brook, that you can hear as you fall asleep, to pairs of Red Kites and Buzzards wheeling overhead - and flocks of Goldfinches hopping about the grasses in the meadow and field. The weather was very good and I fell asleep watching bats and the moon rise, with the van door open all night. There's already stone fire pits, a compostable loo, and a lovely area where you can pitch up and enjoy the woods and the area, in peace and quiet. David is the owner and is lovely, so very helpful, which I appreciated loads. I can see why this little slice of heaven has been nominated for awards - and I'd suggest that people come and visit to try it out for themselves.

Weekend Trip to Pytingwyn Woods

My 8 year old loves making dens and bases and has heard about wild camping that my wife and I used to do and wanted to do some himself. Since he isn’t quite up to a proper expedition at his age I went looking for a campsite where we could give him a taste of it and found this place. We camped in the woods within a few metres of the river. We cooked over fires and slept under a tarp shelter between trees, boiled water from the river and in his eyes lived in the wilderness for a couple of days. Just what we were after.

7 nights at Farrs Meadow

We loved it. The meadow is beautiful and during our week in May we awoke to the sound of cookoos every morning - joy. We were in the smaller Yurt which was really warm and comfortable. David was really available and bought us wood for the fire when we needed. Classic camping and a wonderful escape from the city! Thanks David.

This is a beautiful natural location, peaceful, with access to the river for swimming. Andy and his partner are so lovely and welcoming, and great thought has been given to providing little touches to make your stay more comfortable - including a great little kitchen area and communal areas to have fires or barbecues. We live in a secluded idyllic hamlet only 11 miles from the centre of Cardiff. Yr Hen Felin used to be the flour mill serving Dyffryn House and the Estate. Later it became the woodsman’s cottage. The water wheel no longer exists, but the river runs through the property. The five acre site has two beautifully converted horseboxes and a shepherd’s hut with exclusive use of my art room which has a kitchenette, a woodburning stove and table and sofabed. For those who enjoy a more modern experience we have a dwelling with boifold doors on two sides and spectacular views. The 4 self catering accommodations have their own private spaces, barbecues and their own private hot tubs. We also have a small holding with sheep, alpacas, a pig, hens, ducks and fan tail doves.

We’re in a great spot if you love fishing, kayaking, gorge walking, cycling, seasides, fossil hunting, wild swimming, fell running, bird watching, archaeology or even Viking history! We are 9 miles from the mystical Glastonbury Abbey and Tor and directly on a Sustrans 33 cycle path route. The River Brue runs alongside the campsite with damsel flies fluttering by and kingfishers darting back and forth. We are on the Somerset levels so the sunsets are amazing as well as night time stargazing. We have a private, wooden jetty where you can launch your own paddle board. It’s a perfect get away for campers and nature lovers. Bring your own raised BBQs and logs or buy firewood on site. A family run campsite around 30 miles south of Bristol on the banks of the River Brue, it has a relaxed vibe and we try to keep things simple and straight forward. It’s ideal for doing some day trips nearby, then lighting the BBQ and playing Frisbee (games box you are most welcome to use). The site borders a river meadow where visitors can wonder down and take a walk down with the river bank, relax by the water edge, throw a few skimmers, do a spot of fishing or even go wild water swimming (at your own risk!). Well behaved dogs are welcome (maximum 2 per unit).
