Stowford Manor Farm Campsite

51 units · Glamping, Motorhomes25 acres · Trowbridge, England
We are a family run farm situated in the beautiful Frome valley. The farm has a range of interests from the traditional Jersey milking cows to a community of workshops used by local craftsmen. The cafe serves cream teas from Easter to the end of September and pizzas are sold in evenings during the summer months. Ours is a small family run camp site with the River Frome on one side, next to the medieval buildings of Stowford Farm. The river is suitable for fishing, boating, swimming and paddling. Historic Bradford-on-Avon is only a 5 minute drive and the City of Bath 15 minutes. For those who enjoy more rural pleasures, 200 metres from the campsite Farleigh Hungerford boasts the only river swimming club in the country, and you can become an instant member for a very small fee.

Park Farm Campsite

3 units · Motorhomes, Tents3 acres · Malmesbury, England
Wild Inspired, back to nature camping with a touch of luxury. The campsite is an 3 acre open field surrounded by trees looking out onto an awesome view. We are a working, organic dairy farm. The pitches are large, each with the option to have a campfire (we sell our own wood). We have recently installed some compost loos and some gas showers, we also have a covered washing up area. There are chickens that live next door to the campsite and we have a small honesty shop selling eggs, apple juice, local preserves and other goodies. There are some local woods and footpaths to enjoy walking locally. We have a village pub 3 miles away, just about walkable! We are located on the outskirts only the Cotswold so lots of lovely places to explore further afield.

Pop Up Outwest

33 units · Motorhomes, Tents9 acres · West Ashton, England
Pop-up Outwest is a quiet secluded site on a 200-acre organic free-range family farm in the gorgeous Wiltshire countryside, and just 5 minutes’ drive from the town of Trowbridge. This is a splendid spot in which to switch off for a bit: it’s surrounded by farm fields (with grazing cows) and woodland areas, with several footpaths leading off from the farm into the local area. There are lots more trails to stroll along through the country lanes, leading to small villages such as Steeple Ashton, Edington and Bratton and furthur from us is Bath, about half an hour’s drive away if you fancy a change of scenery. Life on site is pretty straightforward: the site is simple to get to from the nearby A350, and with easy access through the private gate into the pitching area. Barbecues are permitted on site, and firepits available to hire – either one being a mighty fine idea to keep you warm as you spend evenings gazing out over views of the Westbury White Horse hills (which is a five-minute drive away if you want a closer look). Facilities here are minimal to preserve the peace of the place, but guests will have access to portaloos in the pitching field.

Campsites with private bathrooms near Wiltshire guide

Overview

Wiltshire’s enigmatic showpiece—the ancient stone circle of Stonehenge—pulls in the crowds, but there’s plenty to tempt you to stay longer. Green vales and chalk downlands blanket the Wiltshire countryside, including three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Explore miles of hiking, cycling, and horseback riding trails; camp out beneath the stars at remote country campsites; or take your campervan on a scenic road trip, stopping at ancient monuments and pretty stone villages along the way. Late spring through early fall provides the most pleasant weather for camping, while heated glampsites stay open year-round.

Where to go

South Wiltshire

Most tours of Wiltshire start in the cathedral city of Salisbury. To the west, the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs AONB affords plenty of ways to escape the crowds. Hike along chalk river valleys, enjoy leisurely bike or horseback rides across grassy plains, and stroll the flower gardens of the Stourhead Estate, then pitch your tent at quiet farmland campsites.

Central Wiltshire

North of Salisbury, the chalk downlands of the Salisbury Plains lead the way to some of the region’s most unique sights. Discover the mysterious stone circles of Stonehenge and Avebury, marvel at the famous Wilshire White Horses, or follow the Great West Way heritage trail. More highlights await in the North Wessex Downs AONB, from nature walks to canoeing along the Kennet and Avon canal.

North Wiltshire and the Cotswolds

Swindon is the gateway to Wiltshire’s northern region, where idyllic country villages dot the banks of the River Avon. Lacock village is a photographer’s favorite, but the prettiest villages lie in the Cotswolds AONB. Castle Combe, Sherston, or Slaughterford are popular choices, where you can check into a luxury glampsite or enjoy lunch at a traditional English pub.

Hampshire

Wiltshire borders Hampshire to the southeast, providing easy access to the New Forest National Park. Choose between family-friendly holiday parks or simple back-to-nature campsites, where you can enjoy woodland walks and admire the park’s free-roaming herds of native ponies. For a change of scenery, the beach towns of Milford on sea and Barton on sea are just a 30-minute drive away.
