If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see at least one of the amazing sunsets at Red Sky at Night Campsite near Monmouth – but if you don’t, there’s mighty compensation in the shape of the spectacular views from just about everywhere on the site. And of course, on clear nights, the night skies are diamond-bright with stars - we are under one of Wales' Dark Sky Reserves!
This family-run camping field on a livestock farm is managed on very laidback lines. Pitch up wherever you like and feel free to park by your tent (weather permitting). Raised campfires are allowed and you can hire firepits and grills (the owners sell local eggs & sausages) and buy bags of wood & kindling. You can bring your dogs too (take them for walks in the adjoining woods) but just be sure to keep them on a lead.
Kids are certainly carefully looked after here. Get a fact sheet on arrival and join mini-campers in wildlife hunts through the trees, looking out all the while for buzzards and red kites. Round and about the site, your offspring can entertain themselves on rope swings, making dens and following a mini-tractor course across the camping field. There’s also a football pitch.
Wild camping this may be (there’s no electricity on site, please note) but there are two nicely designed compost loos and a covered sink areas with fresh water tap. So bring your guitar, light that fire, break out the barbecue and enjoy the chilled vibe.

brilliant campsite went for 2 nights, was ment to be 3 but had no clothes left, but anything you needed chloe was there within the hour, peaceful feild with brilliant views, brilliant for dogs that are well behaved. The kids loved all the stuff they could do including tree swings,playground and the mud kitchen, the forest walk is so lovely to walk through brilliant campsite would recomend only 2-3 days just coz theres no showers but still a very good campsite, would defuntely go again

Great site, big pitches and lovely view. Chloe and her boys were very welcoming, she had obviously put alot of time and thought into keeping the kids on site happy with a wooden climbing frame and ride-on tractors, wish I'd had my grandson with me, he would of loved it.

What an incredible stay at this working farm campsite in North Devon! From the moment we arrived, Nick made us feel completely welcome with her warm, relaxed approach. She strikes the perfect balance - always visible and ready to help with anything you need, while having thoughtfully designed the campsite so that most of your needs are already taken care of without having to ask.
The practical touches really stood out: the double-space fridge was brilliant for longer stays, and the honesty box system for the washer and dryer worked seamlessly. The shower block deserves special mention - spacious enough for whole families, spotlessly clean, and with excellent water pressure and hot water. Perfect for families with children.
What makes this place truly magical is being on a genuine working farm. The animals are integrated naturally into the campsite environment, and there's a wonderful freedom to wander around and observe them respectfully. No overly officious rules - just common sense and respect for the animals and farm life. The views across the Devon countryside are absolutely stunning.
Nick herself was exceptional throughout our stay - her genuine care for guests and attention to detail really shows. We're already planning our return visit!
Highly recommended for anyone wanting an authentic farm experience with excellent facilities and the warmest of welcomes.

Excellent two nights at Red Sky Campsite, lovely large pitch for me and Walter the Westie. Lucky enough to have a clear sky, watched the sundown and waited for the night sky to come alive. Will definitely be returning with the grandkids in a few weeks. I will leave another review soon.

We had a wonderfully peaceful few days at Swallow farm. Brilliant off grid facilities. Lovely shaded spot so no early mornings due to tent getting too hot. The table and sink area bring a little bit of luxury and we loved hunting for campfire sticks in the woods.
Not hot water but if you leave a metal bucket of water in the sun it gets to a nice temperature for a cool bucket shower.

A lovely back to basics campsite, the views are beautiful. The plots are large and spaced out well. The kids loved the mud kitchen and tractors.
We hired a fire pit and bought wood which was a lovely addition to the eve.
The sawdust loos were done up lovely too.

Gorgeous campsite with beautiful views, very accommodating for the dog and close to all the mountains we wanted to go up and a short drive to either Abergavenny or Monmouth.

Brilliant place to camp for a big group. Nice and out of the way in the forest and woke up to birdsong every morning! Compost toilets were clean and pleasant. Really helpful to have a covering with a big table and sink too! Hosts were great, greeted us as we arrived and also had some extra info on local area. Would definitely recommend!
