Riverside caravan parks near Bognor Regis

·

Sussex and the south coast are hot spots for camping which makes Bognor Regis a doubly good destination. The town itself offers a large beach backed by a promenade with ice cream kiosks, mini-golf and old-fashioned amusements arcades. If you want to roll up your trousers and go for a paddle or eat fish and chips on the pier followed by an ice cream and a stroll on the prom - there’s no better place. But where to stay? Camping and glamping sites are found outside the town, of course, and all the better for it. Quiet nights on the campsite provide the perfect finish to busy days on the beach. There are plenty of campsites we’ve rated as cool within reach of Bognor; from back-to-basics sites in the nearby national park to up-market glamping sites where the luxury seems limitless.

Bognor is all about the beach so don’t forget to pack your swimming kit! Head for the town’s main beach and dive right in. The seafront is dominated by the largest Butlins resort on the south coast and while that may not float your boat - your kids might like the look of the facilities. This giant holiday park has swimming pools and water slides as well as fun fair rides. The good news is, you can pop in on a day ticket to enjoy all the fun of the fair even if you aren’t staying on site. There’s more traditional fun with an 18-hole minigolf on the seafront and a little taster pier - that’s been much shortened since the town’s Victorian heyday. In town the tourist attractions are quaint, the 9-acre Hotham Park and the little Bognor Museum which provides a fascinating insight in to the history of the town. If you want to get away from it all, head for the hills and the South Downs National Park for walking, cycling, horseriding and more. West Wittering beach is a short drive along the coast and it’s not far to Chichester or Arundel whose independent shops and historic sites provide a change of scenery.

With its pier, promenade and long shingle beach, the seaside resort of Bognor Regis is the classic coastal town and a wonderful place to visit on a camping holiday. With Chichester Harbour and the South Downs nearby, there are ample good campsites in the vicinity. As always, only the very best make it into our collection.

Happy farmer sitting in a truck in a grassy field
Happy farmer sitting in a truck in a grassy field

People have been heading here on holiday for generations and although there are some affordable options in the centre of town, we think camping in Bognor Regis is the best way to stay. Look a little outside town and you’re immersed in rural scenery with both the South Downs National Park and the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty nearby. Choose camping in the area and you can have all the fun of the fair by day and evenings round the campfire instead of the cabaret.
