Situated on the south coast, where Kent meets East Sussex, Rye offers the best not just of both worlds – but of many. It’s close to the sandy beaches of Camber Sands but also surrounded by countryside. It’s a historic old town but with the modern conveniences you’ll need to stock up for your camping trip. The flat farmland of Romney Marsh stretches east while the wooded hills of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty expand to the west. It feels like the middle of nowhere but it’s within an hour-and-a-half of London and Brighton. And when it comes to campsites; it’s got all angles covered too. Whether you want to pitch your own tent or stay in a shepherd’s hut, yurt or cosy cabin – you should find a campsite in Rye (or its surroundings) that ticks the boxes for you.

Camping in Rye gives you plenty of opportunity to explore the ancient walled town. Just wandering the cobbled streets, popping in to one of its tea rooms and perusing the independent shops, is reason enough to visit, but this medieval town also has a fascinating history – which is too fascinating to ignore. Visit Rye Museum or Rye Heritage Centre to find out all about it and perhaps climb the tower at St Mary’s Church for a bird’s eye view of the town’s red rooftops. The reclaiming of land from the sea means the town is now more than a mile from the shore but it remains a working harbour with fishing boats bringing the daily catch to town along the River Rother. Follow this waterway out to sea and you reach Rye Harbour Nature Reserve where you can walk among bird-rich saltmarshes and coastal lagoons. But if it’s seaside fun you’ve come for, head for the large expanse of beach at Camber Sands or to Hastings, with its shingle beaches and traditional seaside tourist attractions. Both are within easy day-tripping distance when you’re camping in Rye.

Once an important cinque port, the small, pretty town of Rye in East Sussex is a camper's delight. First of al Mark is a real gentleman and a great man. We stayed as wel in the granery as in the treehouse. Both are realy beautiful places to stay. The granary has more luxure and specialy the woodburner in wintertime is lovely. The treehouse is les luxery but a great cosy place to spend the night.

The cabin was homely, warm and comfy. Plenty of logs provided for the burner. The hot tub is surrounded by trees and when the stars come out a lovely place to wallow. Nice country pub on doorstep. Would recommend.

Weekend Trip to The Nut Plat Retreat

Highly recommend, my partner and I had a great time at Finlay’s cabin. It was exactly what we were looking for in terms of: how remote & private it was, outdoor and indoor fire & the hot tub! We also loved the unique structure and authentic feel… however a few things to note, for the cost per night(£180) I would expect: body wash & shampoo / hairdryer, better kitchen essentials, the coffee left was almost empty for example and old stuff was left in the fridge& top shelf was left completely wet.. I know it’s ‘small’ things but for the price you’d expect these things to be attended to.. for us we didn’t mind too much, but would have made the experience a lot nicer to have these things to improve the overall feel and experience. Also I felt that in terms of cleanliness, it could have been cleaner, many cobwebs & spiders, hair and dirt in the bath tub, messy outdoor porch area; we wanted to use the outdoor bbq and had to clean it very well ourselves.. for the price you would expect it to be clean and ready to use with coals etc however we had to make do with the indoor logs with no fire starter as only option was the chemical indoor one which we didn’t want to use to cook food on.. making it difficult. The hotub area is lovely, however we wanted to use it at night which proved difficult as no outdoor lightning, and indoor torch didn’t work.. some lanterns outside would be a great addition. Duncan was a kind host and has a very special plot!

We had a truly wonderful stay in the Granary! Mark is the loveliest host we have ever met. Everything felt so genuine and welcoming. The cabin had everything we could possibly need, and the bed was extremely comfortable. Even though I am heavily pregnant, climbing up was no problem at all as the ladder is very sturdy 🌝 We loved our cosy evenings by the fire and sunny breakfasts in the little garden, enjoying Mark’s delicious homemade bread and jam. The setting is green, peaceful, and full of good vibes with friendly little robins, cats and dogs keeping us company. We also enjoyed lovely walks in the area, a visit to the nearby village, and a tasty meal at the local pub. It was exactly the perfect getaway we were hoping for. Thank you so much, Mark, for your generosity and warm hospitality!

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin over the Easter holiday. It was warm, cosy, and tastefully decorated,.There’s a BBQ area outside so we had a lovely BBQ. Mark was incredibly nice. he brought us fresh bread every morning, which was absolutely delicious! When it was time to leave, he even gave us a lift to Canterbury. Such a thoughtful gesture. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I’d highly recommend it to everyone!

A fantastic cosy, quiet and romantic cabin, perfect for a little weekend getaway. The hosts are super accommodating and responsive but are also very respectful of your privacy. We arrived with both the fireplace inside and the hot tub fire already roaring. A fantastic experience overall would recommend to anyone! And easy enough to access by just public transport if you don't want to drive :))
