What a little Derbyshire gem: back to basics Whitehouse Farm Campsite is a simple site in a most scenic setting five minutes’ drive from the pretty village of Tideswell.
The site’s central location in the Peak District National Park means it’s a top spot for those who want to ramble or ride bikes – several circular trails leave from Tideswell and the traffic-free Monsal Trail is a five-minute drive away. And there’s plenty more activity if you require it too, as activity centres nearby can sort you out days of horse riding, abseiling, climbing and caving.
All this activity isn’t mandatory, of course – this is an equally fine location for days pottering off to local pubs, pigging out on pudding in Bakewell or taking a leisurely stroll around the Chatsworth Estate, 20 minutes away.
And if even that’s too much, you’d be welcome to spend some time loafing about on site: there’s heaps of space here, and as facilities have been kept quite minimal (just showers and toilets) there should be a good serving of peace and quiet to go with it all.
Guests are welcome to light up a barbecue or campfire for cookouts and keeping warm; Tideswell’s the place for supermarket supplies, and it’s also handily got a fish and chip shop and a couple of pubs for days when your firelighting skills aren't up to much.

Just how remote would you like your holiday accommodation to be? If the answer is fair to middling, Damside Campsite might just be the place for you: this pop-up spot is surrounded by the glorious wilderness of Peak District National Park. Doesn’t get much more blissfully peaceful than that – except for the occasional lowing cow, all is stillness here.
Having said that, don’t worry: you won’t have to scramble across hills and dales for a pint: a traditional pub serving real ales and home-cooked food is right in the village of Peak Forest, a 20-minute walk away. Both the site and the pub welcome dogs, though it might be wise to keep them on a lead when walking past the farm animals.
This is wild camping; facilities might not be abundant (there are no showers), but they are well maintained and include a portable toilet and a washing-up area. There is also fresh running water, and you’re welcome to start a campfire or a barbecue. You can grab essentials in the village shop, or head to Chapel-en-le-Frith (10 minutes) or Buxton (15 minutes).
If you’re here with the kids, the flat, grassy field where you’ll set up your tent makes for an excellent play area on which to run around, kick a ball or fly a kite. A nearby playground has swings, slides, a small adventure course and a multisport pitch.
Walking paths start from right outside the farm, or you can drive to hiking areas like Chee Dale Stepping Stones (10 minutes), a dramatic gorge on the River Wye.

Fields Farm Campsite is just the place for a peachy Peak District break. Just outside of a rural village named Peak Forest in the national park, this site is a walkers’ haven, with the Pennine Way and Monsal Trail just 15 minutes’ drive away (along with Buxton, a classic Peak District town with a spa history, meaning you can pamper yourself on this day out).
Handily, there are walks direct from the door too. You can get to Eldon Hole in just over 10 minutes and dubbed one of the seven wonders of the Peak District, the pothole is an impressive sight. Peak Forest is just five minutes’ walk away too and here, you’ll be able to sample some homecooked food in a pet-friendly traditional country pub.
Adjacent to the owner’s home, the grassy pitches have scenic views of the countryside (a great side dish for breakfast times, that’s for sure). And in the evenings, perhaps a barbecue will be another way to settle into the rural atmosphere. Happily, dogs are permitted here, so you won’t have to leave them behind.
As for gathering together snacks, sandwiches and other stuff to keep you going while you’re out and about in the national park’s towns, villages or traffic-free trails, there is a pop up honesty shop in the pub carpark, main food shops are a 10 minutes’ drive away in Chapel-en-le-Frith or Tideswell to help you tick off your shopping list. Hikes, wildlife and generous helpings of history are all dished up at The Red Lion, a simple site in the grounds of an old Lincolnshire inn.
At a crossroads in the village of East Kirkby, The Red Lion has been refreshing travellers since 1841; more recently, it was a favoured watering hole for the men and women of Bomber Command in World War II, and the pub’s décor pays tribute to them. The staff are steeped in the history of the old coaching inn and the nearby airfield, and can point you towards the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, 10 minutes’ walk down the road and on the site of the former Royal Air Force base.
The Red Lion makes a splendid base for aviation and wartime history buffs, with the heritage centre nearby and the displays and memorials of the International Bomber Command Centre a 45-minute drive away. As it’s on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and around half an hour's drive from the coast, it’s also well placed for walks, stately home visits and wildlife watching.
Most importantly, it’s at the back of a friendly pub (which has varied winter and summer opening days and hours, but is always closed on Mondays). It serves hot food alongside local beers and other refreshing tipples. Canine companions are welcome in the bar (it’d be nice if they bought a drink…) and on the site.

If you are looking for a peaceful, scenic place to pull up for the night in a campervan, Chrome Hill Campers near Hollinsclough is an absolute gem. Capped at just five pitches, it gives you all the quiet and privacy you could ask for without feeling overcrowded.
The shared toilet and shower block is modern, piping hot, and kept exceptionally clean. There is also a fresh water station, chemical disposal point, and outdoor dishwashing area.

This is a lovely little site - just the two pitches. It's quiet and minutes away from the town centre. We went with family (a campervan and larger motorhome) and hired both pitches. We liked it so much, we're heading back soon. The view from the site is spectacular over the hills. The one shower and toilet block (no need for more as it's such a small site) is new, clean, and with plenty of hot water. The site is a good base too for other beautiful places in the Peak District. But we enjoyed walking into town. There's the gardens, opera house and lots of interesting artisan shops and nice pubs.

We booked both pitches , which were perfectly level and close to a water supply. The views across the big house were stunning and shower and toilet very modern and clean , with nice hand soap and lots of loo roll🤣 Our host Rachel and husband Nick were really lovely friendly and helpful, their garden which was huge and available for us to use was lovely with lots of rabbits running around and at night bats and owls !
A ten minute walk into Buxton centre which was bustling with nice artisan shops and lots of places to eat and drink. Overall this was superb so much so we have already booked to return for the Bank holiday weekend.

Really lovely stay. Very clean toilets with shower spacious for young families. Crucially no spiders. Nice safe playground. Really liked the option to buy wood for fires. Calming to sit and spot the barn owl and bats at dusk amongst the trees.

Fab little campsite! Unmanned and runs like an honesty system which we really loved (although we wouldn’t have been shy to meet the faces behind the scenes lol). But not having to physically check in and be shown to a pitch etc gives that extra sense of feeling like you’re ‘wild camping’ with the security of being on a site. The fairy lights at night were a favourite little touch of ours and the facilities were super clean and tidy! The ONLY downside (and it’s very very minor) was that there was no onsite bin to dispose of our rubbish. (Apologies if this is mentioned and we missed it, then more fool us lol) but as we had our dog with us it was quite a challenge keeping her out of the rubbish that we had to take on the way home 😂 and so had we known we would have maybe brought a box or something we could have ‘locked’ it all away into. But all in all an incredible little campsite that feels exclusive with amazing views and perfect facilities! We can’t wait to return. Thank you! ☺️

The views are beautiful and there’s lots of wildlife which was lovely to watch.
Nick was brilliant, he couldn’t do enough for us, even offered to pick us up from town the second time around. We would definitely stay again, looking forward to seeing the future plans.

Had a good weekend. Toilet/shower~only 2 cabins with both toilet and shower, great for families as plenty of room for parent and a couple of kids to have shower etc. If busy may be an issue however were spotless. Owner clearly cares about the campsite and was very friendly. Lots of play equipment for kids. Will keep them very occupied.

Fantastic camp site in an even greater location, they have a really great shower and toilet facility, and of course it is a small campsite for only 5 campervan which is exactly what you want if you value peace and quiet, the views are also absolutely stunning and the surrounding area is amazing, there are plenty of small villages and hikable areas very close by. And last but very not least, the hosts are amazing people, had a right laugh with them and they are incredibly friendly and welcoming, I would recommend to everyone and anyone looking for a campsite in the peak district m

The views from the pitch were great. Over the top of the hall and away in to the distance.
Great location, 10/15 minute walk down to the centre, fairly steep walk back up.
The shower and toilet are superb.
Nick and Rachel were so helpful and they are very passionate about developing the Duchess's Meadow
Note, the access to the pitches are up a steep hill but absolutely worth it! x

Heart of Sherwood
Sherwood’s central heartland is Robin Hood country at its best. Explore the Sherwood Forest Country Park, where you can visit the Major Oak (iconic home of Robin Hood and his merry men), hike and cycle along miles of trails, or ride the Sherwood Forest Railway. Woodland walks and bike rides are also on offer at nearby Sherwood Pines Forest Park, while Rufford Country Park is home to the 12th-century Rufford Abbey.
Byron Country
The southernmost slice of Sherwood Forest sits just north of the city of Nottingham, making it the ideal escape for urban campers. Hike along the Robin Hood Way or bike part of the National Cycle Route 6 through Bestwood Country Park, follow in the footsteps of the Prince of Thieves in Thieves Wood, or make like a modern-day Robin Hood and go glamping in a treehouse in the woods.
