A fantastic place to camp. The facilities were great the welcome was lovely and the views amazing. Will definitely be back for a longer stay. Linda and hubby were very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. The facilities were clean and modern. The directions were clear and easy to follow. We enjoyed the fire pit and listening to the owls late into the evening. Will recommend to anyone looking to visit the area, and the eggs were delicious too.

4 nights at The Peacock Shepherds Hut
The Peacock Shepherds Hut was amazing. The views are incredible and the hut was really comfortable and well thought out from the lovely Peacock details to underfloor heating. The facilities provided everything I needed to enjoy a peaceful break. Fantastic place to relax and reset listening to birds and enjoying the roaming peacocks and wandering down to see the Alpacas. Carol makes you feel so welcome. I will definitely be recommending this place to friends.

Weekend Trip to Fairy Bell Wood
We stayed in the yurt at Fairy Glen Wood and it was just perfect. It had everything we needed for a relaxing little retreat peaceful, comfortable, and surrounded by nature. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely love to come back!

We loved this site, its overall size and simple spotless facilities, no fuss booking and check in, great location, gorgeous views, and a mud free level pitch despite the gails and rain we brought with us! Darren and Diana were fab, great communication, excellent care of the site and they even lent us a pair of grips when we found our gas tank valve has seized up and we couldn’t open it by hand. Hospitable hosts and a lovely site. Will definitely come back and highly recommend!

Initially I wasn’t sure taking the lantern to do your (compost) toilet trip of 1.5 minutes but it worked as long as your mind doesn’t run wild in the dark when you’re on your own! But it all adds up to the whole experience of glamping without running water and electricity in the yurt. I loved the hot shower outside (I also used it to wash my hands after using the toilet), the sound of the stream, the hares who were very elusive, the log burner and the pub breakfast (included in the booking) and the pub food. I had to leave very early, it was still pitch black and I looked at the sky, it was magical with the stars and I even thought I could see 1-2 galaxies; I’m probably exaggerating but it was that clear without the light pollution. I loved the whole experience! Thank you!

Our stay at Over the Moon was absolutely perfect. Ruth was super friendly and gave clear instructions on how to find them, and replied quickly to any questions. The location is beautiful and incredibly peaceful. The hut had everything we needed and the bed was huge and very comfortable. We can’t wait to come stay again!

Weekend Trip to Fairy Bell Wood
This is a truly beautiful space. We've stayed in lots of yurts and this is the nicest by far. It's fab to have somewhere to sit inside if you need. But lovely spots outside too. The kitchen area is really useful and has everything you'd need. We followed the instructions for the shower and it worked perfectly. I loved the full length window to lay in bed and watch the sunset. Best of all if you're as anti social as me..... It's totally on it own! We re already planning our next visit.

We had a fantastic weekend, just what we like in a campsite, small super quiet and chilled, fantastic views and good facilities, Darren & Diana were good hosts and communicated very well. Great walking in the area, the price you pay for the great view is a good hike back up to the site but worth it..! We stopped at the tea room down in the village before taking on the hill home, can highly recommend all the fresh cakes and food from the tea room a little gem.

Lovely little family-feel site, only 5 pitches so you get to know your neighbours! Would a great site if you have a few of you - to have the full site to yourselves if allowed. The facilities are nice; toilet & shower, hot water with outdoor washing up area - all you need on a little site like this. Good location for Chrome Hill and Parkhouse hill and other walks around the area.
Very open/exposed site at the top of the hill, so be mindful of the weather forecast. It was 39/40 mph wind the whole time I was there so did have to leave a night early unfortunately as my tent would not have survived! But apart from the uncontrollable weather, it was a lovely stay. Worth the visit!

Lovely as always! This was my second visit to the Shepherds Hut, and it was just as great as my first visit.
The inside was cosy, tidy and firewood bundle was a great addition for the cooler summer nights!

Lovely little site with amazing views and quiet surroundings. Clean toilet & basic shower facility with water and cleaning items such as bin bags, kitchen sponges. We arrived at 6pm to an empty site and grabbed the corner plot before another couple arrived shortly after but was very comfortable all night. Owners checked in morning of departure but no issues to report. Will be back when the weather is drier to tackle pack house hill!

Where to go
Dark Peak (Northern Peak District National Park)
This is where UK national parks began. It was the 1932 Mass Trespass of Kinder Scout, the park’s highest summit, which largely influenced the subsequent creation of a national network of protected countryside spaces. The park’s only mountains, Kinder Scout and Bleaklow, are here, ensconced in moorland plateau. They’re closest to Sheffield, with suburb Totley right on the boundary. Edale, start of the Pennine Way long-distance trail, has great camping.
White Peak (Southeastern Peak District National Park)
South of Sheffield, the White Peak is a gentle, feel-good introduction to the Peak District. The limestone landscape lends itself to undulating dales, and while there are many lonely spots, popular spa towns Matlock Bath and Buxton draw visitors, as does the Chatsworth House and Gardens, one of Britain’s loveliest country estates. Along the winding, wood-flanked rivers are excellent campsites—start at Lathkill Dale, where several sites flank the steep valley sides.
South West Peak
Bounded by Macclesfield, Buxton, Kettleshulme, and Ilam, the South West Peak mixes the Dark Peak’s barren plateau with lower-lying pastures—and deeply scored cloughs, or wooded valleys, divide the two. Dane Valley Way and Churnet Way are two long-distance hikes that pass through. Although the South West Peak is the farthest part of the Peak District from Sheffield, it’s usually the least visited. The Manifold Valley stands out for its beauty, quiet, and pretty pitches.
When to go
Sheffield’s warmest months of the year are June through August, with temperatures in the 19-21°C range. July and August are school summer holiday months, and while Sheffield is often quieter at this time, the surrounding Peak District is far busier. Sheffield campers should consider a trip in May, with the highest sunshine hours and lowest monthly average rainfall. Sheffield’s Festival of the Outdoors (March) and Walking Festival (September) are great events in town, though there are many other festivals too.
