Glamping in Jurassic Coast

·

Ranging from simple pre-pitched tents to constructions worthy of a place on Grand Designs, the glamping business is booming on the Jurassic Coast. Classic, quirky, and canvas, the bell tent is the classic starting place—along with other pre-pitched tents, they put just a little luxury into a camping trip: the luxury of not having to pitch a tent! Most glamping sites also typically furnish their tents so you can expect more than a blow-up mattress and oftentimes bedding and camping kits. Just make sure you know what’s included before you set out.

The same goes for Mongolian yurts, which usually have a little more headroom than a bell tent and perhaps a solid floor. Tipis certainly look cool and are usually bigger still, while safari tents are often houses in miniature with separate rooms and maybe a verandah.

Another classic among Jurassic Coast glamping sites is the shepherd’s hut. These little cabins on wheels are popular for a reason—they provide cosy, comfy accommodation that does not look out of place in the countryside. Based on the shepherd’s living accommodation of yesteryear, they are movable and compact with a romantic appeal. With all sorts of glamping pods, cabins, quirky converted vehicles, and fantastic treehouses, there’s bound to be a glamping site for you on the Jurassic Coast.

We are a family run farm situated in the beautiful Frome valley. The farm has a range of interests from the traditional Jersey milking cows to a community of workshops used by local craftsmen. The cafe serves cream teas from Easter to the end of September and pizzas are sold in evenings during the summer months. Ours is a small family run camp site with the River Frome on one side, next to the medieval buildings of Stowford Farm. The river is suitable for fishing, boating, swimming and paddling. Historic Bradford-on-Avon is only a 5 minute drive and the City of Bath 15 minutes. For those who enjoy more rural pleasures, 200 metres from the campsite Farleigh Hungerford boasts the only river swimming club in the country, and you can become an instant member for a very small fee.

Off the beaten track on top of the Mendips in an area of outstanding natural beauty. A mixture of four acres of wild woodland, orchard and field set on a hillside. Our Yurt is set up in the trees giving you peaceful seclusion and a clear view across the sea to Wales and the mountains of the Brecon Beacons. The Yurt is big and sleeps up to four very comfortably. It has its own stove and outside is a washroom just for you with hot shower , toilet and sinks. Your own meadow allows you to just relax and be. Up on the campfield you can bring your own tent or hire a Belle tent from us with all the fittings to camp contentedly. Our new Wash House has hot showers, flushing toilets and basins. You can light a fire and cook up a BBQ or maybe just watch the world go by. A huge range of activities are possible or you can lie in the hammock with a good book. We have very friendly dogs and rescue chickens who may come and visit. Wild deer wander past in the early morning mist and the odd buzzard picks an argument with a bunch of crows but nothing much else should disturb you. We moved here after an 18 month search 11 years ago. It was close to everything we wanted and we've spent some time getting a bit closer.

Prime Farm is a small and peaceful campsite located within the Dorset National Landscape (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), less than five miles from the iconic Jurassic Coast - ideal for exploring both coast and countryside. Situated in rural West Dorset, between Lyme Regis and Bridport, we open our gates for the first time in 2025. With spacious wildflower meadow pitches overlooking the stunning Marshwood Vale, we aim to give guests the space and tranquillity to relax and enjoy this beautiful part of the world. Camping: We offer three tent-only camping pitches. Two are located in our beautiful six-acre wildflower meadow, and the third in a more sheltered field closer to the facilities. Each pitch is generously spaced, offering ample room and privacy for guests to unwind. Every pitch includes a picnic table and fire pit. Glamping: Our fabulous 17-foot Mongolian yurt sits in its own a secluded meadow with its own composting toilet, picnic table, and fire pit. Furnished with a king-sized bed and two optional children’s beds (bedding provided), the yurt offers exclusive access to the field, perfect for a peaceful and private stay. Facilities: The entire camping and glamping site is off-grid. Facilities include composting toilets, a gas-heated shower, and a washing-up area. The nights can be wonderfully dark and star-filled, so don’t forget to bring a torch. Greener Camping Club: As an exclusive Greener Camping Club campsite we require one valid Greener Camping Club member per booking (£12). If you're not already a member, please select this as an Extra when booking. You will receive your annual membership by email, allowing you access to the many other Greener Camping sites across the UK.  Worth Noting: To maintain peace and safety for all guests we do not allow cars on site. Pitches are approximately 150m from the parking area, with wheelbarrows to help you transport your things. One car allowed per pitch. Enjoy sunsets and sunrises, the sound of songbirds, and the chance to spot hares, deer, and other wildlife. You're surrounded by nature here, binoculars are a great addition if you’d like a closer look!

Knowle Meadow Camping is a multi-award winning lavish camping and glamping site in a tree-enclosed meadow located in the heart of south Somerset, eight minutes from Ilminster. The site offers a small, intimate number of camping pitches as well as fantastic glamping options, including a Shepherd's Hut and Lotus Stargazer Belle tents. The site has a Scandinavian wood-fired barrel sauna available for all guests on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays typically from 5pm until 6pm. It has a half-moon window showcasing the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and an accompanying cold water bucket shower. There are hotel-style washrooms, with powerful rainfall showers. With ten generously sized pitches available for tents or small campervans, the site offers a memorable and intimate camping experience. The camping pitches are all individual, surrounded by wildflowers and long grass, creating a picturesque setting for all campers. There is also an all-weather barn with seating, and campers have access to a fridge freezer. The Yarrow Shepherd's Hut is a two person hut made locally in Merriott. It boasts a superbly comfortable double bed, warming log burner, mini kitchen, and private Scandinavian woodfired hot tub. Further down our lane is a cycle path which links to Ilminster, Chard and beyond. The Jurassic Coast (and Lyme Regis) can be reached within 25 minutes.
