Little Harford Lower Woodland is set in a property of just over 6 acres, an old thatched cottage with an artistic and creative atmosphere. The woodland here at Little Harford is a tranquil place for people wanting to find peace and quiet in a back to nature experience. A small river meanders through the bottom of the lower woodland which can occasionally come up to the top of the bank with lots of rain. A winding path leads down to where the land levels out at the water meadow area of the woodland. A family of buzzards live in the valley and you can often hear owls, pheasants and wild birds. A certain degree of fitness is needed as there is no vehicle access and wheelbarrows are available to help move your gear. There is parking at the entrance to the lower woodland on hard standing. A compost toilet is available for all No.2’s and mindful wild peeing is encouraged. Tap water is available from an outside tap at the property for washing up (eco products provided) and drinking water but currently no shower. Campfires are allowed and seasoned wood can be purchased at a small extra cost. Nearest village of Tedburn St Mary with a local pub with good pub food and the village shop is 1 ½ miles away. The nearest town of Crediton is 3 miles away with plenty of supermarkets, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Dartmoor is close by with Fingle Bridge just a 20 minute drive. We only offer a very limited number of camping spots at any time to preserve the tranquility for everyone. BBQs and firepits allowed, dog friendly

We are a family run farm situated in the beautiful Frome valley. The farm has a range of interests from the traditional Jersey milking cows to a community of workshops used by local craftsmen. The cafe serves cream teas from Easter to the end of September and pizzas are sold in evenings during the summer months.
Ours is a small family run camp site with the River Frome on one side, next to the medieval buildings of Stowford Farm. The river is suitable for fishing, boating, swimming and paddling. Historic Bradford-on-Avon is only a 5 minute drive and the City of Bath 15 minutes. For those who enjoy more rural pleasures, 200 metres from the campsite Farleigh Hungerford boasts the only river swimming club in the country, and you can become an instant member for a very small fee.

Camp Bedrock is just outside Cremyll on the Rame Peninsula, with the entrance to the 865-acre Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park five minutes’ walk away along the coast path.
This is a pretty waterside woodland spot on the banks of the Tamar river (and at the start/finish point of the Tamar Way), and you can also follow the coast path down to lovely seaside spots like the twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand – or all the way along to the sandy beach and surf school at Whitsand Bay. As the location faces west you’ll often be treated to a colourful sunset as the backdrop to your evening barbecue or campfire too.
So that’s countryside, river and coast sorted – anything else? Well, yes actually – the city of Plymouth is just across the river, and easily accessed via the foot ferry a few minutes’ walk away. That means you can be at the restaurants of Royal William Yard in about 20 minutes, or exploring the city centre’s attractions (like the Barbican, the Mayflower Steps and National Marine Aquarium) in about 45 minutes.
Closer to base, there’s also a lovely waterside pub about five minutes’ walk away, and plenty of facilities within the country park (including some nice cafés as well as activities like alpaca walks and disc golf).
On site, it’s a dog- and family-friendly setup where you can pick your own pitch. As a pop-up wild camping location there are no frills, but you will have access to compost toilets.

Overview
More than 3,500 acres of woodland await adventurers at Haldon Forest, and nature lovers will be in their element. Explore miles of forest trails on foot, by bike, or on horseback; climb up to hilltop lookout points for views over the Exeter countryside; or find a shady picnic spot beneath the trees. Up for a challenge? Test out your map-reading skills on an orienteering course, zip through the woods on a Segway, or take to the treetops to tackle the GoApe high ropes and zipline course. There are no campsites in the park itself, but you’ll find holiday parks within a 10-minute drive.
When to go
Forest walks are available year-round in Haldon Forest. Escape the heat along the shaded trails in summer or come in autumn to admire the colourful fall foliage. July and August is peak season, when advance booking is essential for park activities. To avoid the crowds, choose a weekday visit outside of the school holidays. The treetop adventure park is open all year, but opening hours are limited through winter, so check ahead.
Know before you go
- Haldon Forest is a 15-minute drive from Exeter along the A38.
- Paid parking is available at the park, and buses run from Exeter centre to Exeter Racecourse, a 1-mile walk from the park.
- There are restrooms and a café in the park.
- Many of the park’s trails are accessible, and Tramper and mobility scooters are available to hire.
