1 night at Cwmffrwd Farm Campsite

Such a great site! Nestled on the mountainside, very natural setting, fire pits and special flat areas for vans. Host was so very welcoming and friendly. Exactly what I'd hoped to find. The walks directly from camp were stunning, lots of different routes to choose from. For families there were self-guided nature activities on site too. Will definitely be going back!

We loved camping here! Pridie was super friendly and very informative about her land and surroundings. She took the time to chat with us and made us feel very welcomed. The Land is beautiful and can’t wait to come again the summer.

Weekend Trip to Gurt Yurts

We want to give the best feedback possible for Tim and the yurt. Tim is a fantastic host, so helpful, makes himself available for any enquiries and local information, and genuinely cares that his guests are well looked after. It really wasa complete experience for us as Tim welcomes well behaved dogs too. The yurt is a dream! So comfortable, everything you could possibly need to be warm and cosy and prepare easy food , especially with Tim’s own hens eggs, and breakfast and barbecue packs (much of which are from the organic farm just down the road) a lovely bonus . Super wood burner, a quilt which has had me looking online since we got back it’s so warm and comfortable and the setting is beautiful in its own paddock (which our dog loved!) with lovely views. The washing up, shower and compost loo facilities were so convenient on the decking next to the yurt, well lit at night by sensor lights, clean with all the all required products supplied, and eco friendly too. The lovely bottle of Prosecco and fresh apple juice were a really kind and very much appreciated gift. We would recommend anyone to stay here and we shall certainly be coming back. THANK YOU!!

Oh my goodness. This site was simply magical. We were blessed with beautiful weather, but I’m sure no amount of rain could take away from this beautiful place. Pridie clearly loves and cares for her land. The pitches are large and well laid out, maximising privacy, it was quiet when we were there but I imagine it never feels “busy.” A fire pit is a great addition and the wood bundle was brilliant value for money. The composting loos were fab, the shower facilities basic but clean and hot! Washing facilities were great with eco-friendly washing up liquid provided. Plugs with USB in the Byre (where washing facilities are) for charging your tech (but hardly any signal - bliss.) We missed Pridie’s walk but overheard a bit of one and chatting with her she is clearly extremely knowledgeable about the land she cares for and I would definitely sign up for a walk next time we go. So many beautiful walks on your doorstep, with helpful walks highlighted in the Byre for you to explore, which was really helpful and led to us discovering some stunning walks nearby. This will be one of the very rare sites which we will revisit.

We loved our stay here! Perfect combo of seclusion and creature comforts - loved the fact the kids (9 and 6) could ramble solo and safely through the woods, they loved the animals, the set up was perfect, everything we needed, would totally come again. Gets cold at night so would recommend lighting the wood burner in the dome at night, we came before Easter when the weather was lovely and it was still chilly overnight, bring cash for bits like wood!

2 nights at Cuddfan - The Hiding Place

Beautiful spot, very peaceful. Lovely next to the river for a refreshing dip!! The tent and facilities were great, very comfortable and all the bits you could need! Great to have our own loo and shower as well. A really peaceful escape from the world.

Lovely campsite!! Just how we like it! At one with nature and spectacular views!! The host was lovely and was easy to contact.

Beautiful views and incredibly peaceful setting. Pridie was super welcoming and friendly. I can imagine that if the site was busy then the facilities would be in high demand, there is only one shower and it's in the same room as the only flushing toilet (there are two eco loos in the camping fields) but it was no problem when we stayed.

We absolutely love camping on Pridie and James’ land, it was perfect back to basic camping, compost loo and shower/wash room, plenty of space and outstanding views. We will 100% be returning especially when the sauna is built! This campsite was so peaceful and welcoming! The horse and sheep in the meadows next to your pitch are just incredible! Also worth getting a box or two of wood as the fires in the evening just top the day of perfectly! If you want a lovely refreshing weekend I can’t recommend this site enough! We didn’t want to leave!

3 nights at Gurt Yurts

We absolutely loved our few days at Gurt Yurt and cannot recommend it highly enough. Our boys are aged 9 and 7, and this was a dream trip for them: beautiful views over the countryside, deer, buzzards, Tim’s hens and so much space to run around and play. They loved the tyre swings and hammock too. The beds were super cosy and the yurt is equipped with a wood burner, electric blanket and hot water bottles which kept us warm on the cool April nights. Tim is a lovely host - so accommodating, knowledgeable about the area, and goes above and beyond to ensure his guests have a great experience. We will treasure our camp fire memories and the time we spent here. Hope to return again soon.

3 nights at Ivy Cottage Caravan Park

This is a really lovely site, with only a small number of pitches and lots of space between them. The toilet/shower block is well-maintained. Sian is so helpful (both before we arrived and during our stay) and friendly. The site is only a couple minutes' walk from the coast path and there is a bus stop at the entrance to the site - so perfect for coastal walking. The sea view is a great bonus! The Meadow pitch is nice and private, and is flat

Weekend Trip to Camp Couture

Firstly I would like to say thank you to Nick and Tracy for being so accommodating. The place is wonderful and very well thought out. When we arrived Nick and Noodle were there to greet us. The toilet and shower room was spotless. We stayed in the Dome, it had everything we needed and more, waking up to the views of the Alpaca in the pen and the Dear in the woods was so great. The site is very charming and relaxing, I don’t have a negative thing to say about it. It is in the top 3 places we have ever stayed. I would 100% recommend this place.

Charlotte is an amazing young woman. The site is beautiful with some amazing views. I will certainly return and cannot recommend the site enough

3 nights at Sweet Hill Farm

Sweet Hill Farm is a great little spot. The views are what really make this camping spot - waking up every morning to the sea, Portland Bill Lighthouse and the horses in the field. We stayed in our van so had all we needed, but the site has toilets (port-a-loos), water for drinking and washing up and new shower blocks. There is a food and drink hut that offers fresh coffee, baked goods and cakes too. Family fun, friendly and part of an equestrian farm, there's also lots of other lovely animals happy in their habitat. A great campsite and perfect base for exploring the area and the coastal walks on offer :).

What an absolute gem! 💎 The site is beautiful, only a short walk to Portland Light house via a costal walk. Staff were friendly and really helpful and so was the beautiful owners dog. Our plans were to venture out to watch the rugby, but the on site shop and everything we needed, and decided to stay on site and admire the view. Ee can’t wait to visit again with the kids ( lovely play area and animals to look at) Showers were perfect and HOT ! We think we have found our “go to” site, and can’t wait to come back ♥️

Our Yurt is set up in the trees giving you peaceful seclusion and a clear view across the sea to Wales and the mountains of the Brecon Beacons. A huge range of activities are possible or you can lie in the hammock with a good book. We have very friendly dogs and rescue chickens who may come and visit. Wild deer wander past in the early morning mist and the odd buzzard picks an argument with a bunch of crows but nothing much else should disturb you. We moved here after an 18 month search 8 years ago. It was close to everything we wanted and we've spent some time getting a bit closer.

Overview

More than 3,500 acres of woodland await adventurers at Haldon Forest, and nature lovers will be in their element. Explore miles of forest trails on foot, by bike, or on horseback; climb up to hilltop lookout points for views over the Exeter countryside; or find a shady picnic spot beneath the trees. Up for a challenge? Test out your map-reading skills on an orienteering course, zip through the woods on a Segway, or take to the treetops to tackle the GoApe high ropes and zipline course. There are no campsites in the park itself, but you’ll find holiday parks within a 10-minute drive.

When to go

Forest walks are available year-round in Haldon Forest. Escape the heat along the shaded trails in summer or come in autumn to admire the colourful fall foliage. July and August is peak season, when advance booking is essential for park activities. To avoid the crowds, choose a weekday visit outside of the school holidays. The treetop adventure park is open all year, but opening hours are limited through winter, so check ahead.

Know before you go

Haldon Forest is a 15-minute drive from Exeter along the A38.
Paid parking is available at the park, and buses run from Exeter centre to Exeter Racecourse, a 1-mile walk from the park.
There are restrooms and a café in the park.
Many of the park’s trails are accessible, and Tramper and mobility scooters are available to hire.
