The staff are steeped in the history of the old coaching inn and the nearby airfield, and can point you towards the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, 10 minutes’ walk down the road and on the site of the former Royal Air Force base. What a unique and beautiful place to have stumbled across as a last minute change of travel plans. I almost forgot I was in Norfolk, this spot is incredibly well maintained, peaceful, a dream to wake up by the water and watch the swans and heron and has all the amenities you could need for a camping trip or similar. Great location, everywhere is accessible and yet you don’t feel trapped in the hustle and bustle of the coast. And getting a HOT shower right in nature topped it off, just what I needed.

We loved everything about this campsite. We were made to feel very welcome upon our arrival and had a spacious pitch overlooking the beautiful pond. The facilities were clean and tidy with great outdoor showers. We thoroughly recommend this spot especially if you’re cycling through as Holt is a short ride down the rode for any supplies you may need. Will definitely return the next time we are in Norfolk. Weekend Trip to 7 Ducks Touring and Camping

We camped in a lovely field, with amazing facilities. Clean showers with plentiful hot water, clean toilets and a washing up area. We had an electric pitch right on the edge of the fields with lovely views of the sunset. It wasn't very busy during our stay, so was very peaceful. Close to some great restaurants which were very child-friendly. We paid extra for a campfire each night, but unfortunately, due to the strong winds on our 2nd night, we thought it would be safer to not use this! The campsite manager covered it for us to prevent it getting wet in any case. Lovely place, would definitely stay here again!

Just spend a couple of nights here and its a little bit idyllic, with countryside views and a beautiful little church as a backdrop. Nights have zero light pollution so lay out under the stars for a while and relax. ( we spotted starlink) On site toilets and showers and washing up station.

1 night at The Red Lion

I enjoyed my stay at the Red Lion campsite. It's a self-service style campsite as was well organised with gate codes etc. There was plenty of space and options for electric and non-electric, as well as a newly built children's play area. I choose to stay in one of the non-electric grass pitches which extended right back into the site away from the centre hub, and it was lovely and quiet with beautiful views. There are also fire pits to rent as well as a pub onsite directly linked with the campsite. The showers were lovely and hot too!

Beautiful site with pitches round the lake and in the forest. So much wildlife including swans and bats! Facilities are rustic and basic but clean, and the site in general is well kept with mowed meadows between wilder growth. The tranquility of the site is somewhat disturbed by gunshots on surrounding farmland every 10 minutes or so from 7am until dusk which we presumed was an automated system to deter birds from the crops? 15 minutes drive to the nearest beach of Salthouse and 5mins to the town of Holt which has plenty of shops selling groceries, pet supplies and fuel.

We stayed one night at Waterbury Farm and it was pure bliss. The camping shed was cozy and clean, with the kettle in a separate shed—making the sleeping space feel roomy. The hut had everything we needed for a few days off grid and the location was so peaceful! I would thoroughly recommend! The weather was chilly but the log burner was more than enough to keep us warm and cosy. The kitchenette included a fridge and hob and the essential utensils and plenty of logs were provided.

Skegness

Chances are that visitors will arrive at Gibraltar Point NNR from Skegness—Lincolnshire’s most popular seaside resort. Skegness excels in traditional seaside activities with a long, tan sandy beach, pleasure pier, funfair, boating lake, and crazy golf course. Follow the beach and dunes out to the reserve on foot from Skegness’ seafront. Camping is mostly found in busy holiday parks and caravan parks around the edges of town.

Wainfleet All Saints

Not the closest place to the reserve by road yet only a leisurely walk across the marshes, the handsome old town of Wainfleet All Saints has amassed several excellent, laid-back campsites in its immediate environs. It also has a station on the Nottingham-Skegness line. A network of paths leads out across the marshes, which attract much of the same birdlife that the reserve does, and you can continue by footpath via Havenhouse Station to reach the reserve’s North Car Park area.

North Car Park Area

Coming from Skegness three miles north, this is the first part of the reserve you reach. From the car park and picnic area, you can access the reserve’s main circular trail, which takes in a mix of saltmarsh, dunes, and lakes. Most bird hides are in this zone too. The nearest camping is around Wainfleet All Saints, where there are a few choices.

Visitor Centre Area

Continuing south beyond the North Car Park area, you’ll hit the NNR’s heart—where you can find a car park, picnic area, and visitor centre, which informs about the birds that are spottable here, from skylarks to brent geese. Pick up the reserve’s circular trail, offering a taster of the area’s various habitats, or walk out to a viewpoint over The Wash. Several campsites can be found around nearby Wainfleet All Saints.
