With westerly views over the Trent Valley and in the shadows of a ruined 18th-century windmill, this is a peaceful and scenic place to take a break indeed…
Well-positioned too, with a generous handful of pubs, restaurants and cafés a scenic 35 minutes’ walk away in Gunthorpe alongside the river Trent. Radcliffe on Trent and Bingham are five minutes’ drive away for any other amenities you might (supermarkets, shops, restaurants, pubs and the likes). And if you’re after even more of a buzz, Nottingham city centre is 25 minutes’ drive away.
Even with such good access to so many towns and the big city, the site itself is remote. It has 10 acres of hay meadows and woodlands for guests to explore and, of course, sublime sunsets over the valley. If you prefer to keep your whole stay pretty rural, the Vale of Belvoir and the historic Belvoir Castle are 20 minutes’ drive away from the site.
It’s no frills here. The grass and woodland pitches have facilities including water and portaloo access. Dogs are also permitted, as are barbecues.

Lovely family run site, clean and well maintained. Most people follow and respect the rules. We were unlucky on our first night (lower field) that a group in campers set up a party, being extremely loud until 1pm ignoring rules, however the owner did come down and explain it to them again and it stopped. All other campers were lovely and friendly. The following night was much better. Lovely walks along the canal and river with easy access to Shugborough estate so perfect for a few nights of local exploring. If you enjoy fishing you can set up along the canal for a few hours direclty off the site. The canal side garden centre with cafe and shop is a small walk up the road and the Clifford Arms pub the other. A local Spar shop is also within an easy walk with Alid 10 mins away by car. Everything was very reasonably priced and perfect for a short trip away. Thank you to the owners.

If you are looking for a peaceful, scenic place to pull up for the night in a campervan, Chrome Hill Campers near Hollinsclough is an absolute gem. Capped at just five pitches, it gives you all the quiet and privacy you could ask for without feeling overcrowded.
The shared toilet and shower block is modern, piping hot, and kept exceptionally clean. There is also a fresh water station, chemical disposal point, and outdoor dishwashing area.

Lovely choice of fields to camp in and beautiful views. Louise and team were really helpful when our gas cylinder began to leak. Quiet at night, but like other reviews hot water for washing up would be appreciated.

Great location and loved the amount of privacy you get, as pitches are well separated. It was especially nice to be in the forest and a bit shaded, with the heatwave! Loved playing disc golf, Lee was great and really informative. We got two hole in ones!
Our only downside is that the toilets did get smelly/dirty within just a few hours. Creating a toilet block and having a shower on site might be something to consider in the future.

Great stay at Intake farm the animals and the staff were delightful- will certainly be paying them a return visit - the woodland camping area and off grid style were enchanting for the kids as promised :) 100% recommended :) my daughter tried to kidnap “secret”

We had a great time lovely spot in the woodlands we had a 6 person tent 2 adults 3 kids we didnt think was gnna fit but was perfect we got to feed to animals every night which the kids loved and theres a lovely walking trail which leads to a beautiful pub right nxt to train tracks which had steam trains going by really nice place thanks for having us

Fab little campsite! Unmanned and runs like an honesty system which we really loved (although we wouldn’t have been shy to meet the faces behind the scenes lol). But not having to physically check in and be shown to a pitch etc gives that extra sense of feeling like you’re ‘wild camping’ with the security of being on a site. The fairy lights at night were a favourite little touch of ours and the facilities were super clean and tidy! The ONLY downside (and it’s very very minor) was that there was no onsite bin to dispose of our rubbish. (Apologies if this is mentioned and we missed it, then more fool us lol) but as we had our dog with us it was quite a challenge keeping her out of the rubbish that we had to take on the way home 😂 and so had we known we would have maybe brought a box or something we could have ‘locked’ it all away into. But all in all an incredible little campsite that feels exclusive with amazing views and perfect facilities! We can’t wait to return. Thank you! ☺️

What a fantastic campsite! Each pitch has its own toilet, hot shower, running hot water (with washing up bowl and washing up liquid included) and picnic table with canopy. The facilities are fantastic, and the whole site feels spacious and natural. No long walks to the toilet in the middle of the night or sharing a shower block, and you also get the peace of a big open space and listening to the birds. They also have a small honesty shop with wifi and local produce . 10/10 would definitely visit again.

Lovely area close to beautiful walks in Cannock Chase. Canalside walk is even closer (though not a loop!). The campsite also has a great playground for kids, with ponies and horses in the next fields. Small bar to get drinks too for the adults

Great price and the location is perfect for The Roaches. Wasn't a fan of pitching up wherever you want but that's a personal thing. Pizza van is a great idea and much needed after a long day. Everyone respected the 10pm quiet time. Could have done with knowing about the cost to use the showers but that might be the HiCamp app rather than the host.
