Woodland glamping near Dunwich guide

Where to go

Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

The scenic views in Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB are made up of rugged coastline, heathland, wooded cliffs, and river valleys make it a haven for birding, wildlife watching, and hiking on popular trails like Suffolk Coast Path. Take one of the Suffolk Foot Ferries out on the water, and then set up at a waterfront holiday park—they’re plentiful in the AONB. The touring parks and caravan campsites offer a variety of pitch styles, hookups for electricity and water, and creature comforts like laundry facilities and wifi. Or get the royal treatment at a wooden glamping pod rental that provides ensuite bathrooms, well-appointed kitchenettes, and TVs.

Thetford Forest

There aren’t many places that offer an open-air concert hall in the middle of the woods, yet Thetford Forest does just that. Beyond live music, the area is known for the Lynford Arboretum as well as excellent mountain biking and hiking trails that lead campers through outdoor sculptures and art installations. Although you can’t hunker down within the woods themselves, cabins are available in Thorpe Forest. Nearby towns like Brandon and Norfolk also deliver a variety of campsites for tents and caravans as well as heated yurts with private patios for any type of camper.

The Broads

Roughly an hour north or Dunwich is the centre of The Norfolk Broads, a freshwater network of rivers and lakes. Boating and fishing are big draws to this wetland countryside area—Hickling Broad, Filby Broad, and Rollesby Broad are all excellent options to reel in perch and pike. Before casting rods, discover nearby cabin rentals that offer furnished interiors with cosy beds and outdoor BBQs for grilling up the most recent catch. Holiday parks nestled into the coastline spoil campers with immediate beach access and convenient amenities like full hookups and dump stations for motorhomes.

When to go

Although rainfall is evenly scattered throughout the year, East Anglia is one of the dryer regions in England. June, July, and August are the most popular months for camping as the weather is warm and skies are usually sunny. Anglers should double-check the best season to catch certain fish species when camping in The Broads, and birdwatchers may want to research which months will bring the most sightings for migratory bird species in Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB. Thetford Forest often has festivals and shows year-round, and the walking trails are always enjoyable.
