My son and I had an amazing time at Angela's Shepherds hut. It was so cosy and a lovely adventure for us. Having the hot tub made it even better. There was a heater, thank goodness 😁 and all the amenities we needed. Angela was so welcoming too. We will be going back.

We had an amazing stay at the wonderful Freedom Eco Farm. The location is really lovely, with distant views of rolling hills and mature trees - all to ourselves. What is especially great was Helena and Duncan’s relaxed and warm welcome and the ability to roam the tracks around their farm. The grass fed beef burgers were delicious and we’ll be back to try the swimming pond and sauna. Thanks, we loved our stay.

The shepherd hut was clean and very comfortable. The location was peaceful and we had some amazing sunsets and rises. The wood fired hot tub was great as was the wood fire BBQ which was super easy to use and made the food taste great. We had a fantastic 2 nights and can’t wait to go back.

Everything about our experience was great! Jo is extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful and has created a relaxing retreat with superb facilities, location and views. The Yurt is spacious, comfortable and stocked with everything you need to relax, The horse Box that has been converted into a shower and kitchen is top notch and well stocked! The outdoor area with hot hub is bliss and we made full use of the BBQ as well. Overall a fantastic experience and we will return.

We absolutely loved camping here - beautiful farm setting, very peaceful at night. Our toddler enjoyed saying hello to the calves & horses, spotting dragonflies, and pottering in the wooded area! Helena and Duncan were very welcoming and helpful. The swimming pond is stunning - clear and very deep - and the sauna warmed us up before bed! Thank you for a lovely stay - hope to return for longer :)

Nice, quiet campsite. Easily accessible from east London/M11. We were greeted by Emma and David who were very friendly. We were given a private pitch in a small paddock beside the cattle instead of the main field. This was great for the kids to run around safely and play games. Lots of wildlife. We saw swifts, birds of prey and lots of butterflies, dragonflies, etc. No road noise or aeroplanes. Toilets were clean and close to us, but would have been a bit of a trek from the main field. We had a very nice time and would be happy to return.

What a wonderful place! We loved staying in Helen and Paul’s hut. We watched the sun set from the porch and enjoyed the wood burning hot tub under the stars. The hut itself is super cozy and has everything you need. Highly recommended!

Loved our little glamping adventure to Serenity Lakes! The huts have everything you need, from cutlery to microwave and towels and even UNO playing cards. Everything is really well signposted aned explained in the welcome brochure in the hut. Absolute highlights wad obviously the wood-fired hot tub 💞 but also the beautiful sunsets on the lake!

This is a lovely rural campsite. We stayed for three nights, visiting Cambridge during the days and enjoying the nature and quiet when we got back to the tent. Facilities are clean and well-designed. The owners are very friendly and were quick to help when when we couldn't find our firepit. A wonderful place to relax--recommended.

A lovely, quiet site. Wonderfully clean air, dark skies, far from traffic noise and flight paths. Facilities are excellent and the site is safe and secure. The camping field is level and well tended, surrounded by attractive fields and woods. There are some nice walking paths nearby, and likewise good and quiet roads for cycling (although some surprisingly hilly for Suffolk). Note that the nearest shops are some distance away, so do plan ahead. You'll have a great time.

Where to go

Dedham

The village that gives the valley its name, Dedham is a popular destination for outdoor adventurers right on the River Stour. From here, several walking and cycling routes take adventurers deep into Constable Country, via landmarks such as the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Castle House, Fern Bridge, and Flatford Mill. Private farmland provides plenty of camping options, while Ardleigh to the south boasts its own caravan site.

Nayland & Wissington

These two villages in the west of Dedham Vale AONB remain off the region’s beaten track, despite their riverside locations and Norman landmarks. Strolling along the Stour’s banks and wildlife-watching from the water are both popular pastimes here, with canoe rental available at area campsites.

Bures & Sudbury

These well-connected towns just west of Dedham Vale offer easy access to both Essex and Suffolk, as well as the Area of Natural Beauty itself, and can be reached in just over an hour from London Liverpool Street. Bikers can explore the rolling cyclepath that connects the two rural towns, while walkers can wander the area’s reserves, woodland, and water meadows. Camping options include wild-style experiences or caravanning at one of the region’s touring parks.

Cattawade, Manningtree & the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB

The spot where the River Stour splits is a favourite among outdoor enthusiasts, thanks to its striking views, nature reserves, and waterside campsites.
