A luxury octagonal hut with a wood-fired hot tub, close to Sandwich and the Kent coast

What do you get when you cross a Scandinavian cabin, an upmarket bistro, a working farm, and a little bit of pixie dust? Probably something a bit like The Hut at Bride Farm. This quirky, cosy, six-person abode offers a thoroughly unique glamping experience. There's an almost restaurant-like dining space, a cubby-hole sleeping area, a central fire, and, outside, a wood-fired hot tub. And it's all just two miles from the Kent coast.

At a glance, on its raised deck, the hut looks octagonal. Inside, though, it feels like a circle around the great central fireplace. And there's a small off-shoot area that houses the double bed. Other single beds can be converted from the benches around the fire, or you can just book it as a cosy bolthole for two. On the deck, meanwhile, there's the hot tub, yes, but also a well-equipped shower cabin and an outdoor washing-up station with all the essentials.

The hut occupies three acres of pasture and woodland. It's all yours to explore. Head down the quiet road and you can join the Stour Valley walkway or stroll to English Hertiage-owned Richborough Roman Fort in around 15 minutes. A large, grassy clearing just beyond the hut's doorstep provides a perfect place for kids to play and, of course, nearby beaches offer good places to let off steam. Friendly and helpful hosts, Helen and Paul, are the ones to ask for recommendations. They can also help you acquire fresh meat and local food for the BBQ – cooking over the central grill is a must!

Beautiful Scandinavian grill hut set within 3 acres of private paddock and woodland. Plenty of room for some outdoor games or perhaps just relaxing with a spot of lunch cooked on our gas fired BBQ. You can visit the Roman forts in Historical Sandwich or take a trip to the Canterbury Cathedral.  Not to mention the delights of the Kent coastline, just short drive away.   The hut itself has a double bed made up, with an additional 2 double sofa beds all set round a roaring fire pit.  It is lit, has electricity, fresh drinkable water on tap, tea and coffee making facilities (milk provided), fridge and microwave. All linen and towels are provided, as well as shampoo, conditioner and shower gel.  Adjacent to the hut is the heated bathroom, complete with shower cubicle, toilet and sink.  There is a newly built covered, outdoor kitchen with a large gas BBQ, a hob ring, washing up facilities and workbench for preparing food.  All crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and salt and pepper are provided.

Scandinavian Grill Hut
What an amazing little place. Helen and paul we're so friendly and helpful. They really thought of every little thing you would possibly need down to all the little details. The hot tub and indoor fire pit just made it so special. We will definitely be returning

A beautiful Scandinavian Grill Hut set in 3 acres of lush paddock and woodland, just 10 minutes from the Cinque Port of Sandwich and its amenities, 25 minutes from historical Canterbury, 30 minutes from the Port of Dover and just over an hour from London. Nearby attractions

The Hut is only a 15-minute drive from the Sandwich and Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve, an incredible landscape that's of international importance as a result of its flourishing bird population. Explore the sand and shingle beach, admire the stunning views in Pegwell Bay Country Park, and admire the wildlife from Highland cattle to Konik horses. Golfers in your group can book in a round at Royal St George's (01304 613090), a regular host of the Open Championship and only a 15-minute drive away near Sandwich. There's also plenty to do in Canterbury, from its must-visit cathedral – dating all the way back to 597, it's the oldest in England – to the lush Westgate Gardens, providing beautiful walking paths alongside the River Stour and the grandiose Victorian Tower House.

Food and drink

Sandwich has plenty of nice places to eat and drink. The George and Dragon is a 15th-century pub tucked away in a quaint narrow backstreet, with an open fire lit in the winter and a restaurant area in the back. The menu is varied and seasonal, using fresh local produce that ensures it is ever-changing. The Kings Arms is a popular 16th-century inn, retaining much of its original character and positioned across from the River Stour where you can see the bobbing fishing boats. Its menu is extensive, and it also boasts a patio area for outdoor drinks in the summer with a pleasant walled garden. The Blue Pigeons Brasserie also comes highly recommended, an ideal spot for lunch in the nearby pretty Kentish village of Worth – the homemade chicken and ham pie is a favourite!
