We bought this property in 2008 as raw land with an old off-grid 1950's cabin on it. While the log structure was sound, the cabin needed some major renovations to be liveable. We undertook renovations, lived in it for 6 months and then moved into a yurt on a more accessible section of our property. We now run the cabin as a short term rental, have another small rental next to our house and we are using the yurt for gatherings, retreats and yoga classes! My husband and I (and our energetic 1 year old pup) spent 3 peaceful nights at Johanna’s cabin. We ignored all previous recommendations on packing light and naively thought we could pack it all up with our small wagon. We heaved a couple totes and full backpacks up the narrow trail in the heat of the day…and collapsed at the cabin door with exhaustion. Don’t be like us! You don’t need a lot to enjoy this place, there’s a cabinet full of games and books and wonderful trails to explore. Our dog loved the freedom racing up and down the path chasing his beloved ball, in fact he’s still tired from all the fresh air and exercise! It was exactly what we needed, when we needed it. Johanna was a great host and checked in often, making sure we had everything we needed. We are already thinking about our next visit!

Johanna was a helpful host and was responsive to our needs. The cabin is a peaceful retreat from the busyness of life. The hikes on the property were perfect for our little family and were manageable even for our 4 year old. It’s all a nice escape. Directions were clear and easy to follow. Bring proper luggage that you can haul through the woods as you need to hike to the cabin. Takes about 10 minutes.

What a beautiful place! Lara Is a great host and the property is something people dream of. I would recommend this to anyone. Fire, horses, chickens and 10min from Baldy ski resort, and tons of hiking all around. Please if you want some quiet time under the stars contact Lara. My wife and I of 20+ years will be going back. What an amazing stay we had at the For-rest Retreat cabin! The short .7KM walk from the parking area makes it feel like you’re really out in the woods. The cabin was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking and cozying up by the wood stove fireplace at night. There were plenty of board games to keep us entertained but there’s cell signal as well if you don’t want to disconnect completely. There are also quite a few hiking trails on the property which were fun to explore. Our favorites were Sneaky Slabs and Ridge Line (lower). Can’t wait to come back!

First experience with HipCamp and definitely a good one! The cabin was very well stocked with kitchen stuff, lights, blankets, lots to make our stay comfortable. We had added fire wood and had plenty to keep us warm the whole time. Explored the surrounding trails and could even walk to Salmo via the rail trail. Johanna’s instructions were super clear and communication easy. Great spot if you’re looking for an accessible getaway :)
