250 acres

50 RV/Tent
Property was owned by my great grandfather , He lost 150 acres in the early 1900's due to a bad debt from neighboring landowner. Was so happy to be able to repurchase the 150 acres back in 2016,now own the original land tract and added more. 250 acres in total. Portions were strip mined around 1978-1982 creating some flat fields and access to all property. I might add that strip mining if done properly can and does enhance the property. Ponds were built to catch runoff and several new animal species moved in waterfowl ,muskrats, and beavers. The beavers have constructed large dams on property further adding to the beauty. Have seen several bald eagles on and around the property.

Awesome place to stay
We so enjoyed our stay. From beginning to end I was so taken in by this place, John and his little dog too. An old campgrounds being brought back to life and much work going on to make it even better. Were other campers as well and while we all kept to ourselves everyone was friendly and fun. Met a handsome older fella looking for help clraning s turkey he had scored. No matter where I ventured to on this property it was spacious and just beautiful. Was glad to see raw materials put to such good use and come out almost as art. We were truly sad to leave. And definitely want to go back again and again. Loved the ducks in the front pond. Definitely fishing next time. And an added bonus is the most organized variety shop across the street. I have many Harvest host favs, but Beaver Lakes is my absolute favorite by far.

A beautiful location & great hosts!
What a beautiful location! It is so close to Summersville Lake and Gauley River. Our hosts were friendly and sooooo helpful as we had rain come in and our van could not make it way up to the top to our campsite on the second night so they quickly relocated us to another beautiful site lower down. The next day they brought us our firewood and a picnic table to our new site and everything was fantastic even with the rain. Shower was available with nice hot water. We enjoyed paddle boarding to Pirates Cove and beyond and the next day we kayaked Summersville lake. A great adventure. We will definitely return to this Hipcamp!

Peace and quiet
THIS PLACE IS A SLICE OF WEST VIRGINIA HEAVEN!! Expect beautiful flora and fauna. Wildlife like birds, butterflies, deer, bunnies and anything else you could imagine! Plenty of different ways to stay. Primitive camping, campers, or a cabin. I only got to stay one night hit I can’t wait to come back!

Not what we expected, then …
Showed up at the campground and asked for any specific pointers on where to put our camper, but was told to just head on back and take our pick, left or right, doesn’t matter. Not knowing what we were getting into or where we were going is a little strange, but we are adults, we can handle it. So, that’s what we did, and found a nice full hook up spot with a good view. Granted, it’s not what we expected based on what we saw online, a bit of a letdown, but it was OK. Unfortunately, I was feeling more and more I’ll, which turned out to be Covid. I went to bed very early, about 8 PM I think, and then heard my wife having an intense discussion with a gentleman who insisted we were in his spot. I was too sick to want to get out of bed, but this gentleman insisted that he had paid for an entire year for that spot and we were in it, he was obviously very upset . My wife eventually was able to withdraw from that conversation, though I don’t think he was very happy. Kind of put a damper on the whole experience, in addition to me being pretty sick. I don’t think we will be returning. It seems there are many people leasing long-term places there, and not keeping them up very well. Things are laid out a little willy-nilly.

Perfect!!
We asked for a private site with a view and boy did John deliver! It was so nice to meet him and his son when we arrived. They gave us a tour of the campground and led us up to our site with amazing views of the mountains. We can’t thank him enough for his hospitality and sharing his property with us. We can’t wait to bring some friends and come back! THANK YOU JOHN!

BEST HIPCAMP
I’ve been using hipcamp for 2 years and this is by far the best spot I’ve experienced. Great camping, off road trails, and fishing! What more can you ask for. Best part about it all is John! His hospitality is unmatched, he will do whatever he can to make your experience amazing. Highly recommend this place and definitely will be back many times.

Camping with the best view!!
Could not have been more happy with our stay at Beaver Lakes! John is a great host and very attentive. He was able to set us up with a secluded spot on top of a mountain with a stunning view. Everything was so well kept. Even though we were tucked away on the property, they swing by to check to see if you need anything before night fall. Felt very safe even as two single females. We were in the area for New River Gorge NP. I almost booked a campsite closer to the bridge, but I’m so glad I didn’t. 100% worth the 30 minute drive north. Will definitely be returning!

Gorgeous!
John was an amazing host. He provided us with firewood, gave us a tour of the area, and checked in periodically. The land is beautiful. Spots are really well spaced, so it's very private. Over the winter, water is turned off (just like any other campground in the area), but there is an anytime fitness 15min away so you can get a $5 shower if necessary. Highly recommend this campground!

A perfect nature escape
John owns a little piece of heaven in a cozy small town. It was private and absolutely beautiful. John was kind enough to meet us when we arrived and show us several tent sites to choose from. All of the sites were accessible by car (though some need 4 wheel drive) and clearly marked. We ended up staying as high up as we could which made for an amazing view. We always had firewood, and we weren't bothered by any other campers the whole time! The bathroom and hot water shower were a total blessing as well. The campground is centrally located so its easy access to the New River Gorge Bridge and Summersville lake, an hour and a half from Charleston, and only 2-3 hours from other attractions in the state like Spruce Knob Mountain and Huntington. I can't wait to see what else John adds to his campground and we will definitely stay here again next time we come to Wild & Wonderful West Virginia. 🥰

Perfect Campsite
Perfect! John is so kind and shared both firewood and a grill. The campsite is close to New River Gorge National Park, and the rafting outfitter's. On the campground alone, there's 250 acres of land to explore and tons of wildlife. Can't wait for a return visit next spring!

Not for Pavement Princesses
I only stayed overnight and didn’t explore much. The area is very pretty and I’m sure great for hikers, etc. I have a low-riding camper van and access is via a gravel road — made me a bit nervous but I made it. The bathroom is pretty far from some of the camp sites… which was unfortunate for me. . It’s a small campground with lots of open natural areas which I liked and a friendly owner who took the time to drive up and introduce himself and see if I needed anything. I never did find where to throw my garbage away — I ended up bringing it with me to the gas station. Place could use a a few more signs as finding where the sites are, the bathroom and garbage, etc were not intuitive.
