3 RV/Tent
We book only 2 sites at a time on our 40 acre property so you can enjoy a more secluded experience in the woods. Our property is undeveloped, so you will need to bring drinking water, but there's no need to worry about finding firewood before your arrive as we supply you with a free bundle that is waiting for you when you get here! There are 1 1/2 miles of marked, wooded trails that will guide you to the river's edge where you can enjoy the beauty and wildlife along the West Branch of the Sturgeon River. It will feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere, yet the convenience of the small town of Vanderbilt is just three miles away. We are located just three miles off of I-75. The larger town of Gaylord is only a 15 minute drive south. There's lots to do here in beautiful Northern Michigan! Only a few miles from our camp you can go for a swim at Thumb Lake Park or take a bike ride along the North Central State Trail in Vanderbilt. Drive 15 minutes north and you can canoe or kayak the main branch of the Sturgeon River in Wolverine. There are many great hiking trails in the Pigeon River State Forest and the North Country National Scenic Trail is only 6 miles away. This 40 acre parcel has been in our family since the 1950s. My grandparents originally designated it as a tree farm and planted and harvested lumber from it. As a boy scout leader, my grandfather hosted many boy scout troops here and even hosted a boy scout Jamboree in the 1970s. Back then the property was referred to as the "Tree Farm", but after my husband John and I inherited it in 2014 we started calling it Camp 437. Before we inherited the property we spent time camping there and building trails. One of the trails we built was named the "Burns Trail" in honor of my grandparents. Since we acquired the property we have added a one mile loop that circles the perimeter of the property, and a total of about 1 1/2 miles of trail.

Amazing! Will be back!
This property could not be more perfect! Plenty of space in between campsites for privacy, beautiful property/ trails. The firewood available was really helpful. I have AT&T and had good service here. The hosts are quick to respond to messages and very helpful. It’s not far from Petoskey, Harbor Springs, and other cool downtown areas. The colors in this area in the fall were even better than the tunnel of trees that we traveled for. We forgot to bring fire starters, would recommend those. Definitely will be coming back here!

We loved staying at camp 437 and will definitely come back:) the quaint trails were impeccably cared for making our hikes super easy while also feeling like we were off the beaten path. My husband and I got our moment of calm, as we were camping with our 6yo and 10mo, in the morning when we brought our coffee down to the adorable outpost near the river. We were also very happy to run into Dove and a friend, as they were so sweet and helpful. It was our little ones first night camping so we enjoyed putting him up in his pack n play in the tipi. I’m already to come back to one of the tent sites when we’re ready:) thank you Dove and John, for sharing your beautiful place with us.

Amazing peace and solitude
This is our new favorite place! The hosts make sure you have everything you could need. At the site upon arrival was a bundle of firewood under a rain cover that was stacked on top of logs to keep it dry, a bag with dry kindling, a box of matches, and the yellow pages for local restaurants. Wood fire tongs and roasting Skewers were left on the cooking grate for our use as well as a bucket of water for extinguishing our fire at night. We stayed at "the Field" site with wild raspberry bushes in the middle, and were surrounded by woods. There's a private open air style pit toilet about 15-20 yards from the site on its own trail. There was plenty of firewood that was available for purchase for $5 a bucket that was dry and well seasoned. Also available to anyone staying at any site on the property is a rain shelter tent that has umbrellas to borrow, as well as a marble maze, checkers, Chinese checkers, and bubbles, and coloring books with crayons for the kids, a short walk away from any site. We had a clear view of the starry Michigan night sky. The site was quiet, and secluded. There was another camper there that we saw only when pulling out of the gate, had we not seen them at the gate, we wouldn't have known they were there. John and Dove were easy to communicate with and were very accommodating, even when we asked to stay an extra night at the last minute, we got a prompt response. We can't wait to stay here again, and recommend this site to anyone looking for solitude.

Exactly as described. Well stocked with cute touches. Trails are well marked. Only books two sites at a time so it’s not too crowded. River area is just beautiful and the chairs, umbrella and fire pit are nice bonuses. Cute rain shelter with some games.

Thoughtful amenities, secluded
Great Site with thoughtful amenities. Love that the cooking grate surface, cooking sticks, rake, fire tongs, etc are provided. Didn’t see or hear the campers from other sites all weekend so you definitely feel like you’re primitive camping.

Tipi amenities!
We loved our night at the tipi and all the sweet amenities Dove and John provide including a lantern, cots and chairs in the tipi, a cord of wood (with fire-starting supplies), tripod for cooking and flowers on the picnic table. We also took advantage of sitting in the cozy spot by the river, wading in the clear stream and hiking their well-marked trails!

Dog’s paradise!
Dove & John we’re the most wonderful hosts! My pups loved playing in the creek & cuddling up by the campfire during our tipi stay. We enjoyed eating s’mores by the campfire and setting down for a few good books :) For future campers, it does get cold at night. Just make sure you bring a few extra blankets along with your sleeping bag! Everything else was perfect, I just slightly underprepared for the weather!

Perfect experience
Tent camping here was absolutely great. It was so private and beautiful. Lots of spiders but that’s to be expected. They provided a fire grill-type thing, as well as metal prongs for roasting hot dogs and s’mores. The field site was perfect for two tents and the trails were great for walking. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful and peaceful
My friends and I enjoyed hammocking at Camp 437. It was very quiet and peaceful - we didn't see another soul! There are lovely paths through the woods and a board path through the marsh to the river. Don't expect good cell phone service or modern amenities - this is truly a stay in the woods! I would definitely come again if I could.

Relaxing beautiful property
Great spot. I loved it. There are little marked trails to hike. I didn't get a chance to do all of them but the couple that I did do were great. I would definitely book again when in the area. The hosts were great and communicated well about how things work. It was all exactly as they explained and there were no surprises upon arrival. They provided a bucket of water to extinguish the fire and some fire starting goodies which was a nice touch. Beautiful area. Felt secluded and private yet a town is easily accessible near by. Enjoyed my stay and would recommend to anyone looking to camp primitively.

Our Second Trip!
And we are looking forward to a third! This is our spot, and we are loving getting to explore the wood board trails near the river, listening to the coyotes chatter to each other at dusk, and finding a secret little carved owl in the woods near camp. Thank you again, Dove and John!

Beautiful place & thoughtful hosts!
We loved our stay at the field site! :) The camp site was beautiful and so peaceful. We felt secluded yet very safe and comfortable being out in the woods. The nature was stunning & we could not be happier with our stay there & wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else!! When we arrived the hosts had left us with a bundle of firewood, skewers for the fire, tools to tend to the fire, a citronella candle, and a rake; they are so thoughtful and sweet. Overall, a 10/10 we loved it and definitely recommend!
